The idea that the Norse were highly-individualistic is extremely funny to me. These are people who were cooped up in the same abode together for 4-5 frozen months out of the year. Optimizing their ability to cooperate was essential.

Anyway. I'm not hugely familiar with "solo wilderness survival" channels, but I know enough about them to know the general bit is "how long can I survive before I need to ask for help?" Because asking for help is inevitable.

Not only did the Norse depend on asking each other for help, they probably needed to make cooperating with each other a highlight of their lives. Like otters holding hands. Like Beatrix Potter mice curled up in bed with their patchwork quilts and little nightcaps. Like hobbits if hobbits lived in frozen climates. Their culture would have had to be a culture of comfort and warmth by necessity, otherwise they wouldn't have survived, let alone thrived.

Every single year, without fail, we deal with the fact that the internet is obsessed with promoting the misinformation that Ostara must have been stolen from Easter.

People will argue until they’re blue in the face…But they won’t provide citations or evidence to the contrary and the reason why is simple: there isn’t any.
