7. are you married or do you intend to get married?

no and no! i'm pretty ambivalent about marriage/relationships, i love being (physically) alone and doing what i want whenever i want to; if i were 2 psychoanalyze myself here on my fanfic blog, pretty much all the marriages i saw growing up were neutral-to-unhappy so i'm a little wary of ending up like that, you know? if it does happen, though, i'm not deeply opposed to the idea -- however it all shakes out is fine by me :)

12. what's the biggest purchase you've ever made?

hmmm...i mean, my car, but i feel like that's a boring/obvious answer haha. second place is a tie between cremation and wisdom tooth removal (both a couple thousand 💀)

18. have you ever changed fields in your career or education?

not mid-track, but i did end up in a career field entirely unrelated to what i studied in school. i studied linguistics with the intent of doing...something...related to teaching/research, took random jobs out of college bc i felt i needed a break, ended up staying and getting promoted through one company to my current job. my position in said random jobs was generally similar from job to job (admin work), but the companies were all in wildly different fields, so i guess that was also kind of a change!

30. what's your living arrangement? (who do you live with, in what kind of building, do you own or rent or other?)

my brother and i share the house we inherited! i sometimes joke with him that we need to adopt a heartwarming redheaded orphan to really complete the picture.

1. what's your favourite kitchen appliance?

hello hello! toaster oven definitely, everything tastes better reheated in a toaster oven ^_^

also idk if it's really an appliance, but getting a kitchen scale was game-changing ngl. for some reason, no one in my family ever owned one, and i have now realized the main reason i hated baking/cooking was bc i associated it with cleaning approx. 800 small bowls and measuring cups afterwards and now i'm freeeeee

6. what's your go-to recipe when you want to make something that requires minimal effort?

pasta for sure -- boil pasta, add jar sauce and frozen meatballs, microwave, done. if i have more frozen dumplings and random vegetables than meatballs, i do a variation on this with instant ramen instead :D

13. what are your hobbies?

writing is my main one! i write fanfic, i write small original stories that have yet to be finished, i journal. i like the physical act of writing in itself so i enjoy (although am not very good at, lol) pointed pen and brush calligraphy. and i take photos for fun! trying to scrapbook as well bc i have envelopes of prints lying around that i'm not doing anything with...👀

2. do you have a collection of anything?

i have a few collections! i collect:

film cameras

fountain pens

tori amos CDs found in the bargain bins of used music stores from different cities

the last one is the only thing i intentionally collect haha, i like to hit up used book and music stores whenever i go somewhere new and see what kind of stuff they have; i tripped over "under the pink" in a giant bin of $1 CDs while on vacation several years ago and it's become a game for me to try and find something wherever i go. as for the others...i've been lucky and gifted a bunch of cameras over the years, and i also really like buying random toy cameras and seeing how their photos come out. i also just really love fountain pens and can't stop myself from buying a cute pen when i see one ;_; (i should also swear off buying them until i get rid of some lmao. i am too weak)

25. would you rather own a dishwasher or a laundry machine if you could only have one or the other?

i'd rather own a laundry machine for sure!!! i actually enjoy doing dishes but laundry is another story. i also have lived without a dishwasher before so i know it's manageable; idk about a laundry machine.

27. what's your favourite household chore?

haha, dishes, see above. i find it relaxing! i also don't mind most types of cleaning, it's sooo satisfying to watch grime come off.

14. what's a hobby you'd like to get into?

i'd really love to be better with my hands and get into crafting more frequently -- sewing, crocheting, knitting etc. i suppose in terms of being part of the aging tumblr population, i do feel more incentive to get better at making or repairing things, instead of buying them, than i did as a Youth. a lot of my friends and coworkers are very crafty, too, and there's a few group chats dedicated to sharing our projects. while i'm sure they wouldn't be unkind about my writing or photos, i would like to have a hobby that feels less...personal, i guess, to share the results with people i don't know very well (except here on tumblr dot com, lol). i did get gifted crochet supplies recently so i think that's a sign!

19. how many wisdom teeth do you have and have you had any removed?

lmao ty for the wisdom teeth question bc it is pertinent 🦷 i had two wisdom teeth and i just got them removed! (the other two teeth never developed. dentists used to tell me i was "more evolved" as a kid, and i may have held onto that the way people do about being told they're gifted lmao.) according to my brother i looked like brando in the godfather for the past couple of weeks.

26. do you make a list before going to the grocery store or just wing it?

i make a list! It's not always a thorough list but tbh my memory is just not very good and if i don't write it down i'll walk into the grocery store and then just stop and wonder wtf i'm after.

4. what's the worst job you've ever had?

i worked as a receptionist for a bit, and it was in an industry that is notoriously kind of opaque and inaccessible for the average person (you have to go through an agent, etc) so people were sort of primed to be angry or suspicious if they hadn't heard from their agent or got a bill they didn't understand, and they'd start yelling at the first person to pick up the phone, aka me. also the business was floundering, so to try and make employees stay, the company added "perks" like this coffee machine that needed to be reset CONSTANTLY and people would get snappy with me if i didn't drop whatever i was initially doing to fix it.

also towards the end of my time there, the office manager was really stressed out about cutting our expenses so she had me count and report back how many bagels were left uneaten every week after our free bagel days and at some point while counting half-eaten bagels i started contemplating my life decisions. (and then i'd lose count of the bagels bc someone would pop in to tell me the coffee machine was broken…comedy tbh.)

there was also a tonnnn of office drama which was kind of amusing as a recipient of the gossip, but i did get sucked very quickly into, like, politely laughing or agreeing just to get along, then i'd worry that it would get back to whoever was being gossiped about and overall it was just not super healthy!

the commute was great though, never found a job as conveniently located again :(

5. what's your favourite piece of furniture and where did you get it?

haha all my furniture is pretty boring (i inherited most of it with my parents' house) and tbh...now that i'm thinking about it, i actually don't like most of my parents' furniture, lol (sorry guys). a lot of it is practical but kinda ugly, or i've come to dislike it because it wasn't maintained and gives me problems when i use or clean it or whatever...

i guess the piece of furniture that changed my life the most was this rolling cart i got from ikea lmao. i ran out of storage space in the shelves near my desk, and it fit perfectly between my bookshelf and the desk and now i finally have easy access to all my sticky notes and pens and tapes. v. pleased.

A good, sturdy, sensible lad, too. Always reminded me of my father. Gilbert’s mother, who was a gay, frank, light-hearted lady, but not overburdened with tact, had a very embarrassing habit of asking Anne, always in a painfully distinct voice and always in the presence of a crowd, if she had heard from Gilbert lately.

extremely tickled to realize i gave shirley and pencil girl the same dynamic as gilbert's own parents. my affection for sensible boys and their loudmouth girlfriends can be found in every timeline
