The same way I tried to find myself in Milan, now it's time to find myself in Fribourg!

Vom Fass

Not sure if it actually means something but let's be honest, the name doesn't turn me on. The boutique on the other hand really does!

This little golden nugget in the centre of Fribourg offers a stunning and surprising collection of liquors and spirits, as well as oils, vinegars and other delicious liquids to turn your meals into savorous experiences! And what a sexy way to present their products...big colorful jars behind the window on wooden shelves that attract you like gravity (only without George Clooney and Sandra Bullock). All you need to do is tell them how much you want!

They also have some good whisky in there, including some Bruichladdich (my personal Everest of whisky). Have a chat with the owners, sometimes they have other stuff they can bring in from another shop, in case you're looking for something specific.

Tip: you know that goddamn liquor you never have when you try to follow a cocktail recipee? Well, they might have it.

Bummer: it all looks way too good, and there's a price for it.

Café de l'Ancienne Gare

How could I start with any other place? Ancienne Gare is what it says it is: an ex train station. I've seen churches or banks turned into bars in Milan, I've seen a whole fishermen's harbour turned into bars and nightclubs in Nantes, and many other cool places where to have a good drink but a train station is a first for me. The place was originally built in 1872 and is classified as "monument historique"! Who would have thought? In any case, don't even think twice about it, this place is where shit usually happens.

There's no other place in the city that gathers so much people over the weekend. Now why is that? Well, easy location for a start, definitely good music (classic rock most of the time), beeeeeer and beeeeeer again! Swiss "Cardinal" goes for barely 6 CHF a pint...apparently it also tastes better after the summer holidays. Rumor has it that's the only time of the year they clean the pipes. But who cares?

If I have to be totally honest here, they actually like to call it Café "Culturel" de l'Ancienne Gare. One would argue there isn't much "cultural" about getting hammered (and one would be wrong), but truth is they also organise some exhibitions, some live concerts etc. I say it's worth having a look.

The bottomline here is that this place is popular. And one of the many good reasons why it stays popular is that it tends to attract good people in there, despite the proximity to the train station, and we all know what that means. Everyone's having "nothin' but a good time" (Poison, 1988, you should know that), and "nothing else matters" (if you don't know that one, get lost).

Tip: yes, they serve shots of Vodka Tabasco.
