Communication devices are tiny and stick onto clothing starting in Next Gen.Ā TOS had bulkier communication that they carried around or kept in, like, packs and stuff, so the arguments for pockets is a little more valid, and if I remember correctly, those costumes didĀ have pockets, tho I could be wrong about that.Ā But anything post TNG, the point is moot anyway.
Tricorders and phasers are really the only thing anyoneās carrying around, and thatās usually on away missions where theyād be bring their packs/holsters or just have them out.Ā I mean, who wants to stick a phaserĀ in their pocket?Ā Ā
So, yeah.Ā Thereās not much little stuff people needĀ to carry around everywhere.Ā And if they are preparing for a longer journey or want to bring bulkier things, wellā¦just bring a bag.Ā It fits more anyway.Ā Ā Ā

so i watched Attack of the Autobots last night and long story short but imagine an aligned-like origin of the 13 primes, and where, like in the aligned continuity, Optimus is the 13th Prime, and the 13th Primeās information/role/appearance wasnāt anywhere near as well known or defined as the others. But! Instead of just being The Mediator, heās actually the first cassette host/carrier. He made the first cassettes. I think this also ties in well with the whole āhis spark is the most like Primusās ownā thing the aligned continuity thing has going on. He, like their creator, can make smaller bots, but heās not a god, so they canāt survive fully independently. And it would be very like him to realize that he made a mistake that caused someone else harm, and to do whatever it takes to help them, including giving them access to his own insides to gain what they lack so direly.
all this to say: i think it would be neato if Soundwave & his cassettes found out and were forced to confront the fact that Optimus was the reason any of them exist. And I also think it would be funny if he just didn't tell anyone that heās universally compatible with all cassettes regardless of whether they have a bond or not, and people had to find out by him just taking one and shoving them in his chest without warning.

Megatron and Optimus have some.. Unresolved issues.
āMegatronā¦ā a long-suffering vent, and Shockwave could already feel the helmache. Why his Lord had to take these comms on speaker was beyond him. He locks optics with Starscream across from him, the seekerās faceplate twisted up in annoyance as he looked to their leader.
The silver mech in question sat stiffly at the head of the table. āPrime, to what do I owe the pleasure?ā He sounded condescending, and yet, every Decepticon in that room could see how his faceplate was slowly turning blue. Shockwave receives a message from Soundwave. Megatron: Grown aft mech. Status: Fragging SIMP. A grown aft mech indeed.
āYou know why I called Megatron. You canāt keep luring Bumblebee away like this-ā Dear Primus, not this one again. Starscream groans, tossing his helm back and the sudden silence is deafening. He closes his optic, dread clouding his processor. ā..Am I on speaker, with others in the room?ā Heād take pleasure in the panic on Megatronās faceplate if he didnāt already know what was coming.
āNo..?ā Megatron warbled, uncertain while trying to make optic contact with his commanders. The three deliberately looked away. āRight. Who else is in the room?ā Despite the harsh glare pointed at him, Starscream speaks up. āShockwave, Soundwave, and myself of course, can you honestly say you expected different, Prime?ā
It is very, very quiet. Soundwave's chassis opens slightly, Frenzyās head poking out and Soundwave slowly pushes him back in, preventing the cassette from causing more damage.

Optimus pinches his Enstril as the sound of a cannon powering up leaves his comm. He really canāt say he expected anything different. He looks up, meeting Elitaās own unimpressed gaze, and hopes she wonāt announce that he does the same. āMegatron please just- you canāt keep leaving a trail of energon cubes for Bumblebee to follow. Just pick him up like a normal Mech.ā He looks over at Bumblebee, thoroughly entertained by building another one of his.. friends. Primus, he needs to set up a playdate or something.
He hears Megatron scoff from the other side of the comm. āItās good for him! Didnāt YOU say he needs enrichment Prime?ā He hates when he does that, throwing his words back at him like it absolves him of any wrong. āYou know that's not what I meant! Find him a puzzle to do, some playmates! Iām sure Soundwaves Cassetteicons would keep him entertained.ā He argues, not that heās doing much better with keeping Bee entertained.
The yellow bot bounds over, finally drawn in by the conversation, and Optimus prays, prays he doesnāt-Ā
āOptimus! Who are you and Elita talking to?ā He shuts his optics tightly, and can hear Elita poorly stifling her laughter. Can hear a bang from the other side of the comm line.
āAnd to think, you were so peeved to discover my commanders were in the room with me, yet here you are.ā He can only imagine what his face looks like. Probably smug. Watches Elita slide from her chair, wheezing out āI told you heād find outā.
