Lost in thought, he pondered what made him originally think about the possibility of talking to an ice skater. Had there been a doppelganger that he was unaware of? He supposed idols did a lot of dancing.. would that be it? Yuri continued to almost stare into space, neglecting his newly met guest without any intention of doing so, clearly lost in thought.

Viktor moved to see his face again. “I just wanted to talk to you, maybe get you to leave this table and  grace me with a dance?”

This was certainly not what he was expecting to get out of the knight. In pure honesty, he remained at the party for so long specifically because of the food. He wondered to himself if someone had paid this pain off to either make him feel better or leave him as a sheep in wolf’s clothing. He attempted not to come off as rude, but his half slurred voice decided otherwise before he even noticed it.

          Silver locks where in tangles as Viktor pinched the bridge of his nose. Oh how his head ached furiously and it only increased with Yuuri’s words. He wasn’t yelling, but it sure sounded like it in his mind. Thankfully he was situated on a bench as he tried to gather up the answer to the younger male’s questions. The previous night was almost in a fog, but he had enough memory to at least remember tidbits of it.

          “Too much.” The words slipped from partially opened lips with a groan as he now wiped at his brow. “Minako mentioned a fancy bar…and we went.”

Hangovers didn’t come often enough to Yuri for him to find enough of a cure for it. It was an age old question, asked by generations and generations of people along with other classics like ‘where is the holy grail located?’ and ‘is it possible to sell your soul?’. All of these questions had something in common: Yuri had no answer to them. 

Yet determination attempted to give him an urge to push forward. He searched the creases of his mind for an attempt at a solution to all of his problems. What came out, however, was not so elegantly put.

                    ❝Have you tried taking something?                                   Drinking water?                                          Eating?❞

No, no, these were headache cures. Hangover. What cures a hangover?

The skater thrived to be helpful to someone he owed so much to. If he had no answer, it might just kill him. Yet nothing came to mind other than the things he’d listed previously. Maybe remaining silent would solve all of his problems?

      *     ⊹   ✦    ———— He’s skating to On Love: Eros. It’s not H I S short program anymore, and he happily passed it along to Yuuri. There’s no inspiration left to keep skating, but time and time again, he finds his h e a r t wanting to wander to the quiet ice rink before the other skaters show up. This morning Viktor actually does, and he’s skating as the Viktor Nikiforov that the world knows, admires, and adores. The rush of emotion that flows under his skin and the adrenaline through his veins.

               HE MISSES SKATING IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE.

But his time is passed. A new generation of skaters and competitors are making their way to the rink for the world to see. There’s a new sense of glory coming for him. He K N O W S there is.

Watching Viktor skate again after a hiatus made him want to vomit. The pure guilt consumed his stomach like an everlasting plague enveloping a small town, evolving and never ceasing. This was all his fault. The only reason he left the skating world in the first place was because of his existence. While that was not something he could necessarily help, small pangs at the back on his mind hinted at a subtle phrase. If you love something, let it go. 

He remained hidden, infatuated by the movements that had long ago become what we now know as figure skating. He watched with a keen eye, making sure to notice every last detail down to the particular scratch patterns on the ice. All he could do was watch, praying not to be noticed.

I was rewatching bits of episode 2 of YOI and purposefully paused at the moment where they show Yuuri’s profile.

And I noticed one thing. See that box under the pictures on the left-hand side?

This one. It says:

Yuuri set himself two goals and one of them was “not crying” PROTECT HIM.

       Yes, he had heard him. JJ likes to see it as a good thing that Yuuri has not buggered off or even avoided speaking to JJ. He knows that Yuuro had given him a hug once (which completely surprised JJ). So that was sort of why JJ was attempting to be his friend. He seemed to wamt to be around the Canadian to some degree; even if it wasn’t everyday. That made JJ feel a lot more involved with the other skaters, too. Now that these two were talking – maybe a small friendship would bond and the others would see that JJ wasn’t such a bad guy to hang around. He was actually quite chill.

Listening to Yuuri speak, he exhales. JJ was more than capable of holding a conversation; he just… was not overly talented in communication. Placing his hands on his own hips, JJ nods. Sighing. “You’re right, Yuuri. It is cold. But maybe that will help you get used to it. You would not have to worry when you enter more competitions.” JJ mutters. Shrugging after. He waa doing well so far. Yuuri didn’t seem like he wanted to run away. Joking didn’t seem to work for him, as he has experienced already. “Get used to the cold and you can even practice on a couple frozen lakes and rivers like I do. Neat, eh?”

Yuri was personally a bit surprised by the fact that JJ was attempted to extend a bridge of friendship to him. Though rigidity and a bit nerving, Yuri was willing to begin his journey across. Though, Yuri always worried of betrayal beyond the simplicity of friendship. He tried to take precautions in his speech, remaining a bit wary the entire time.

                ❝Wouldn’t skating on ice be a bit, you know, dangerous?                      How would you know if it was completely frozen?❞

The uncertainty of even thinking about the cracking ice gave small chills to him as he watched the small movements that might signal any bit of bad intentions. He might as well cut to the chase.

                          ❝Why are you really being so nice to me?              I mean... Normally people have a reason behind it, right?❞

‘Lovely’ certainly wasn’t the word he would use to describe his intoxicated state. He didn’t necessarily hate being there, but wasn’t really enjoying it thus far.

He chuckled and turned his back to him again, seeming clearly uncertain as to how to respond.

If only he realized the receiving end of his words.

He tried not to show too much emotion to a contender he barely knew anything about. All he knew is that he worked aside Viktor and the other Yuri back in Russia, yet he couldn’t let his guard down. 

What was he saying? Had he really become this cold?

What a smooth conversation starter Yuri. He was grasping at straws in all honesty for at least a slight semblance of a conversation.
