Name: Pakwa; Meaning: Frog
âItâs going to be just fine, Dom,â Katherine assured her wife of four years. âIt will be over before you know it.â Dominique pondered, looking up at her wife, âYouâll still love her the same if sheâs not, you know, like me, right?â Katherine smiled, âHow could I not?â She leaned over and picked up their toddler, nearly an exact replica of Katherine. âAlex will never be able to have the frog persona, but we love him regardless, donât we?â Dominique smiled, sighing in relief. âMommy, down!â The red headed toddler demanded. He was quite angry at the fact that his mother interrupted his Leap Frog time. âI think itâs time,â The doctor said after checking Dominiqueâs dilation. âAre you in pain?â She asked. âNothing I canât handle.â Dominique knew that the pain she was feeling was much less than what a normal person would feel during labor. It gave her hope that maybe, just maybe, the baby would have the frog persona. Dom knew from the stories her parents told that she came out in frog form and slowly turned into her human form. It wasnât until she was around four that she was able to return back to her frog state. She was quite scared for the baby though. During puberty she went through times where she would abruptly change into her frog form with no warning. It was definitely embarrassing when it happened around friends or at school. She didnât really want that for her child, but she hoped that she and Kat would raise the baby in a positive enough environment that it wouldnât affect her. Besides, her older brother would protect her when the time came. She couldnât wait for all those moments. Birthday parties, family pictures, Christmas cards. All of it. It made it even better that Kat was so supportive. âDominique start pushing,â The doctor told her. There were multiple doctors and nurses standing around her. Kat was at her side, holding her hand, and Alex continued to play his games in the chair. Everything was going smoothly. Too smoothly, actually. Dominique was aware of everything. Kat had eased her nervousness by telling her that as soon as she was pushing and it started to hurt, she would not give a damn about the people staring at her naked bottom half. Unfortunately, or rather fortunately, Dom didnât really feel as much pain as expected. It didnât take long for the baby to slide right out either. âThat was the easiest labor Iâve ever experienced,â The doctor told Dom. The girls barely got a chance to see the baby before she was taken off to get cleaned up. Skin to skin contact was something that the hospital only allowed after the baby was cleaned up. âDid you notice anything about the baby?â Kat asks hopefully. The doctor smiles, âNo, nothing we werenât expecting.â Kat frowns and takes Domâs hand, âIâm sorry.â Dominique, though sad, smiles at her wife âDonât apologize. We have a daughter, babe. A daughter.â Kat smiles back instantly. She had been wanting another baby since Alex turned one. She loved watching them learn and grow. The nurses brought back the baby pretty quickly, not yet wrapped in the blanket so that Dom could hold her. As they placed the baby in her arms she noticed it. It was faint, but it was there. Light green skin. A fatter, frog like face. âKatâŠâ Dom said, tears in her eyes. âWhat should we call her now that we know,â Kats grin was uncontrollable at this point. âI liked the one you chose. Your great-grandmothers name. The one that means frog?â Dom replied. âPakwa it is,â Kat said as she snapped a picture of her wife and newborn baby for the first time. Life was really just beginning.
