Friendly reminder that 1200 calories is the recommended amount for a 5 year old
this hit me.
another fact is that 500 calories isn’t even enough for a new born.
why did I go so long convinced that going over 500 in a day was the end of the world?
Another friendly reminder that the United States used 1,000 calorie diets as torture for political prisoners and justified it using the diet industry.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/17/bush-torture-memos-commer_n_188190.html
In a footnote to a May 10, 2005, memorandum from the Office of Legal Council, the Bush attorney general’s office argued that restricting the caloric intake of terrorist suspects to 1000 calories a day was medically safe because people in the United States were dieting along those lines voluntarily.
“While detainees subject to dietary manipulation are obviously situated differently from individuals who voluntarily engage in commercial weight-loss programs, we note that widely available commercial weight-loss programs in the United States employ diets of 1000 kcal/day for sustain periods of weeks or longer without requiring medical supervision,” read the footnote. “While we do not equate commercial weight loss programs and this interrogation technique, the fact that these calorie levels are used in the weight-loss programs, in our view, is instructive in evaluating the medical safety of the interrogation technique.”
Another another friendly reminder that the Minnesota Starvation Experiment subjected adult men who were VOLUNTEERS to 1,560 calorie diets and the psychological effects were so profound that one volunteer cut three of his own fingers off and could not remember why.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Starvation_Experiment
These men were volunteers who knew exactly what they would be going through and when it would end, and who believed they were doing it for a good and moral reason (the research was used to help rehabilitate victims of starvation and famine at the end of WWII).
And these are the things we are expected to engage in FOREVER to stay at a “healthy” weight.
Reading about the Minnesota Starvation experiment was my wake-up call. It was what kicked me out of my eating disorder. The guy missing three fingers, whatever his name was, he was the last straw for me.
Scared me so fucking bad I stopped restricting my food that day, and never went back to it.
Just bringin’ this back around like I sometimes do.
Wow. This really hit me hard.
EAT
Fun fact– calorie restriction exacerbates symptoms of pretty much *every* mental illness.
Anorexia has ~16% mortality rate, slightly higher than acted upon suicidal ideation. It’s more lethal than actively trying to kill oneself and this is why.
Today’s inspiration comes from mclivinit on Instagram. I absolutely love before and after pictures with the same clothes. That’s such a great way to really notice the change in your body. She’s such an inspiration 💖💖

Little Things ✨
Little things to show yourself some love.💛
• Get a good night’s rest every night. I have to admit that I am a night owl, But going to sleep at a decent time and waking up at a decent time is so good for you and very important.
• Drink water. I say this all the time but it’s only because it’s important and a good way to show yourself some love. It’s great to keep yourself hydrated and your insides clean.
• Tell yourself good thoughts instead of negative ones. Not only is it important to show psychical love to yourself but it’s also important to love yourself mentally. Tell yourself that you are strong. Tell yourself you can make it through the day. Believe in yourself. This will make you strong mentally and make you become happier and that’s always important, is your well being. Don’t ever forget that. 💛
• Put on a face mask. This way you’re showing yourself that you care about your skin’s being and how healthy it is. By putting on a healthy face mask that suits your skin type, It goes to show that you aren’t neglecting your skin.
• Letting yourself show emotion. It’s okay not to be okay, it’s okay to be angry and it’s totally okay to feel any emotion. If you want to cry, Then you are allowed to let yourself cry. It’s never a good thing to keep it all bottled in, Because one day it’s all going to come out and explode. So to avoid that, Let yourself cry and feel emotions. It doesn’t make you a weak person. Just remind yourself afterwards, That it’s going to be okay.
• Take a soothing bath. If you are going through something stressful, Go ahead and spoil yourself. Light the candles and turn on the warm water. Afterwards, Maybe even throw on a robe! Everybody deserves a break sometimes and it’s okay to take a break. You shouldn’t overwork yourself because in the end you’ll just end up exhausted.
• Eat a treat you love. Now, I know junk food isn’t all that good for you but it won’t hurt every once in a while. If you haven’t eaten your favorite snack in a few weeks and you start wanting to eat it, Then go for it! We only live once and eating your favorite snack once won’t hurt you. Find balance, Eat healthy foods while other times eat a favorite snack of yours.
This is it for now and I hope you all enjoyed this post today. 💛 I’ve been feeling a little down lately so I got the idea to post this and hopefully this makes someone out there feel at least a little bit better. Happy hump day, Stay strong! You can get through the rest of this week! 💛
Friendly reminder that there is no food even remotely close to the unhealthiness of an eating disorder.
I know I’ve been inactive but I’m here
This is going to be SUPER long but okay SO I did some extra cardio today because the gym weight area was still busy so I decided to run. It's been a while since I've run. I'm mad because I didn't get a picture but I'm pretty sure my mile time was like 11:15, and that's by far a new record for me, even though I felt like I was dying after. I also realized my walking pace is faster now which is great
I feel accomplished as fuck.
I got up this morning. Made myself some lemon ginger drink. Showered. Got dressed. Did a long deep stretch of my body. And then walked a continuous fast paced mile around my neighborhood. And even remembered to stretch well afterwards!! I’m drenched in sweat and feel so fucking proud of myself. Just a few months ago I could barely walk ¼ of a mile. Now I’m kicking ass. Patience and determination got me here. And I’m here for the long run. My life will never be the way it used to be. I’ll make it better every single day.
There are three rules.
1. If you do not go after what you want, you will never have it.
2. If you do not ask, the answer will always be no.
3. If you do not step forward, you will remain in the same place.
Gentle reminder: Even if your workouts don’t leave you sore, it doesn’t mean they aren’t working.
This especially true if you practice proper warm up & cool down, stretching, and/or foam rolling. We do all these to help our body’s recover faster and mitigate soreness. So let us collectively try and not be dissapointed in our efforts with our workout when these tools actually work!
Keep pushing, it’s working! You’re getting (forgive the Daft Punk reference) Harder, Better, Faster, & Stronger. You got this!
I 1000% approve of this addition.
Be the best version of yourself.
