The Cure returns to Chicago!

Hey guys, concerts are my passion and it’s my goal to share with you the 411 on insider concert news. So without further ado, here is the scoop on The Cure’s return to Chi-town…written by our very own Madelaine Ronquillo. – FRP
The sunshine and warm weather isn’t the only thing making a comeback to Chicago this June. The Cure will be returning to Chicago in a two-night sold out spectacle!
Over the past 37 years, The Cure has revolutionized punk rock music with its dark and gothic tones. The band’s current line up includes the band’s only constant member Robert Smith on vocals and guitar, Simon Gallup on bass, drummer Jason Cooper, Roger O’Donnell on keys, and guitarist Reeves Gabrels.
If you’re a prospective audience member, you can expect to hear a variety songs in their rockin’ set. Expect fan favorites such as “Lovesong” and “In Between Days”, but the band doesn’t limit their set list to just those. The Cure is bringing back rare songs that haven’t been performed in over a decade, like “The Snakepit”. But these concerts aren’t just a trip down memory lane-- they will also debut two new songs: “Step Into the Light” and “It Can Never Be the Same”. And don’t be afraid to bring on the screams and cheers because the band is known for their multiple encores!
And of course, expect the signature back-combed hair and smeared lipstick. Would it be a Cure gig without it?
Despite their long career and 8-year hiatus from touring, The Cure still manages to create excitement. What rare songs will they perform this time? How many encores will they perform? Do their new songs signal a green light on a new album after nearly a decade?
Well, at least a couple of those questions will be answered soon as they hit the stage with opener The Twilight Sad, on June 10th & 11th at UIC Pavilion.
