PSA: accessible bathroom stalls are not a privilege or a luxury - they are a necessity, they are reasonable accommodations made for disabled people who literally can’t use a normal sized stall or need hand rails for various reasons. 🔥yesterday I went to use the bathroom before playing a show, so after a woman awkwardly opened the door for me, I rolled into the women’s restroom and found that the accessible stall was taken. not by a chair user. not by a person with a walker or a cane. just a person with a small dog, presumably changing clothes - one of the performers of the evening. i waited a bit, but she’d been in there for a while already, so I decided to try the stall next to it - it seemed similar in size to an “accessible” stall I used before that I could barely get into because it was juuust big enough for my chair - but I got stuck instead so I forced my way back out and left the bathroom. I still needed a toilet so i just rolled into the men’s bathroom, which was empty. a couple guys came in and left while I was in the stall, one guy didn’t even notice me as I came out from the stall. I snapped this photo when nobody was there. this is my space. this is a space for disabled people to use the toilet. this space should not be taken up by people who don’t struggle to fit into a regular bathroom stall. stop it. we need this space. #spoonie #ehlersdanlossyndrome #actuallynarcoleptic #ableism #disability
