“I’m trying to help you, okay?” Frisk said, sounding sincere.
She stared at him a moment before coughing and reaching her hand into the burning blaze of the fireplace. Suddenly the flame jumped from the fireplace and began swirling up Chara’s arm and being absorbed into her. Soon all of the fire was gone and she took in a deep clear sounding breath getting to her feet shakily.
Frisk quickly followed her standing up and threw a blanket around her, “Stay here, I’ll bring you something else to warm you up.”
Chara tossed the blanket off of herself and in a quick motion pushed Frisk up against a wall gripping the collar of his shirt threateningly, “Why are you being so nice to me!”
“I still consider you a friend Chara.”
Her expression broke from aggression to nothing but blankness. After a moment she stepped back from him letting him go slowly and going down into a sitting position in front of the dark fireplace.
Frisk stood there for a second and then grabbed the blanket again gently setting on her again before he reignited the fire and walked out.
Chara just sat there staring into the swirling fire seemingly unable to think of anything. He called her a friend despite all she had done, maybe one day-.
Soon Frisk returned to the room with a mug in his hand and set it next to her on the floor.
Chara looked down at the mug raising an eyebrow. Frisk slowly took a seat next to her and she soon turned to look at him.
“You feel any better?” He asked with a low voice.
She nodded meekly in response.
“Well can I give you a side hug at least?”
Chara turned back to the fire relaxing showing that he was allowed which he promptly did.
She was still stiff despite the small body language she had given that showed the contrary but she was very warm to the touch.
“Do you want me to let go?” Frisk asked her.
“N-no,” she said quietly slowly leaning against him.
There was a moment of silence between the two before Chara spoke up, “I’m guessing I’m going to be chained again, right?”
“I don’t know, but you’re probably right.” he shrugged, “But isn’t chaining someone inhumane?”
“It’s not like it’s wrong to chain me. I’m destructive, unpredictable, and kill people,” she sighed and looked at him, “Do you not agree?”
Once again it was quiet and both turned forward again, the only sound was the soft crackling of the fire before their eyes.
“Is it sad I want them to lock me away?” Chara asked in a hushed voice.
“Why would you want that?”
“I can’t control myself, simple,” she retorted.
“Well, they might not since you did break through the last chains,” Frisk commented.
“I wasn’t sure I would be able to break those chains,” she answered.
Asriel walked into the room before the two could talk more and both turned towards him, but as soon as Chara saw who it was she looked away.
“I spoke to Undyne and uh we decided that we were going to-.” Asriel started to speak but Chara interrupted.
“We were going to let you go and-” she once again interrupted him.
“Force me over the border.”
“No, you can stay in the castle as long as you want, it took some convinc-” he couldn’t finish this time as Chara shot to her feet and swiftly hugged him.
Asriel hugged back a little surprised and smiled.
Soon the hug ended, “Well, I guess I’ll see you guys later,” he smiled at both of them before turning and walking out.
“Well, I better give an update to the other side so I’ll be back, alright?” Frisk asked.
Chara looked at him raising an eyebrow, “What update?”
“Ignore him. I told him I would be back and gave him an order to stay where he was,” Chara said narrowing her eyes, “He’s a demon anyway.”
Frisk seemed a little taken aback by her cold remark, “He still cares about you.”
She then rolled her eyes, “He cares because by nature he has to, all demons do.”
Frisk stared at her a moment before looking down and away.
Chara also looked away awkwardly now that the conversation had abruptly died.
“Sorry, I probably made things awkward,” Frisk apologized.
“No, you didn’t make things awkward, I-,” she shut her mouth.
“So, what now? I- what am I supposed to do?” She turned back to him finally with a look in her eyes that said she was desperate to know.
“I don’t think you are supposed to do anything, we need to figure out a room for you,” Frisk got to his feet and started walking out with Chara following closely behind.
The duo soon walked into the library where Asriel was doing a bit of paperwork at a desk there.
“What room in Chara is going to be staying in?” Frisk asked which startled Asriel a little bit.
“Ah! You startled me! She can stay in any of them really, as long as it isn’t taken already.”
While they conversed Chara began to go around the library curiously and soon flew up pulling a book off the shelf and cracking it open.
“So what are you working on?” Frisk asked.
“So this is going to be your life forever?”
“I guess, but I don’t mind.”
“At least the panic attacks have stopped,” Frisk commented.
“Wha?” Asriel cocked his head at that.
“The times when you have no idea what to do and you start crying,” He answered thinking back to one of those moments.
“I haven’t done that in a long time-,” Asriel said, slowly getting embarrassed.
Chara snickered, “So he’s a baby, a cry baby,” she then put the book back and landed back on the ground next to Frisk.
“Guys, I have work to do,” Asriel said pushing his embarrassment away.
Frisk nodded and led Chara back out and down the hall, “Well, Asriel said you can claim any room as long as it isn’t taken.”
“Okay, where is your room?” She asked, walking beside him.
A moment later they stopped in front of an open bedroom. It was pretty bare with only a bed and a wardrobe. There was a rug in front of the bed with a blue and white pattern that matched the one on the bed as well. Without hesitation Chara bolted forward to the bed and launched onto it. Within moments she had burrowed under the covers laying completely still as if she had died.
“Th-this is so comfy-,” she said.
“Heheh, glad you like it.” Frisk smiled.
Chara made a purr like noise and continued laying there for a moment before poking her head out and looking at Frisk.
“Why are you smiling?” She cocked her head slightly.
“Oh I didn’t even notice,” he confessed.
“Maybe it’s because I like seeing you so content, I dunno.”
“Hm, also I’m not getting up,” she had a relaxed expression on her face.
“This is my room now,” she had a joking tone but Frisk didn’t hear that and took it seriously and went over to his wardrobe taking out his clothes.
“Wait, you’re actually doing it? I was messing around.”
“Sure, if you want my room you can have it.”
