quick garment showcase!

top: made from the other half of a cardigan after i used the first half for another project, its very fun and backless and the front cowl bit can be styled a few different ways which is fun. It makes me feel like some sorta seer or diety which is always nice

bottom: latest knit convertible garment, very comfortable, very fun, Ive been calling it "day dream", and its the best thing Ive ever made* the lace patterns are from string geekery

*acknowledgment to the fact that I say this every time I come up with another 2nd attempt at a convertible garment

a fun "junk food" type project i finished recently

because of the large hook size and what not it went super fast which i nice for all that good good instant gratification

the othe big reason I wanted to make this dress is that its filling a couple of "holes" in my wardrobe

for instance I don't have much thats bodycon

I also don't have a lot of stuff with a deep v neckline

the first pic was taken before i wove in all the ends

overall I really like this piece, since its quite different from most of my other clothes I've been having a fun time styling it

Just finished this lounge top. It was originally the top off some dress and due to the double layer jersey I thought it would be fun to add an applique. I used the same old tee shirt for both the skull and for the elastic casing at the bottom. I like form fitting tank tops as a sorta pseudo bra for when I'm just hangin around the house, and I know this one will get a ton of wear

I thrifted this peach dress forever ago, and it was a go to in my closet for many years. Toward the end of 2020 I realized that I hadn't worn it in years despite likeing basically everything about it, so I decided to figure out what I could do to wear it more.

The first big thing I did was make it into separate top and skirt, to greatly increase my styling options, especially since the skirt was difficult to wear under other skirts.

The other big change was removing the zipper all together. Luckily this dress is nice and stretchy and it already was easy to put on just by pulling it over my head, and the other bonus is now these pieces are better lounge wear. I rarely wear pants, so goodlookin comfy lounge skirts/dresses are a highly sought after garment for me, and zippers ruin that vibe.

Overall I'm super glad I did this. They feel like brand new clothes to me now and any time I see one of them I think of a new way to style it. If that ain't a win I dont know what is

My big bleach painting patchwork project! We had a whole tone of old black teeshirts laying around the house, so I bleach painting them all with different things i cared about and hand sewed the entire sh'bang together into a nice convertible garment. Since its all just old tee shirts its also incredibly comfortable/doesn't take up too much space/not wrinkle prone, making it a great travel garment. It can be worn in a ton of ways but my favories are the dress (as seen above) a maxi skirt, and as a cardigan type garment. I was originally going to add snaps for wearing it as a dress but instead opted for just using safety pins sibce theyre more adaptable and also add to the punk look. There are some sleeves not shown here that can give it a cold shoulder look when i wear it as a dress. For that pic I wore my hand knit cashmere fishnet top underneath because its the funniest garment I own now.

Heres a stash busting crochet convertible garment I made a bit ago but never posted. I'm planning on writing up a pattern for it sometime. In addition to being a fantastic outer garment, it also makes a swanky blanket. I'm definitly gonna bring it when I visit my friends in the future as I have a curse that makes me very sleepy as soon as im somebody elses couch. The bear is a detchable pocket since its kinda hard to place pockets on convertible garments, his name is arthur and his lil bag is the perfect size to hold my headphones. This whole project took me a week which is pretty neat. Over all this garment has some mega grandma witch energy and has been a welcome addition to my wardrobe.

Thought I would document my build a bears wardrobe as of now. The rainbow dress and pink cardigan are new, I had a fun time trying to keep the color pooling on the dress even. everything is stored in the cupcake bag with a few notebooks including the one where I jot down the base patterns for all these clothes. I think I'm going to try and make some shoes soon, and maybe a couple of bags for her to wear.

Victorian pence jug but big!

I followed a pattern from the lady's knitting book, written by Elvina M Corbould in 1874. I had to make a couple of pattern changes so stitch counts would work out and I decided to make the jug spout ribbed as well. The biggest change of course is upping the needle and yarn sizes, I used some 10s and worsted weight and my bag ended up being about 22 inches in circumference at the widest. The other change is that I crocheted the strap and added some structural and aesthetic slip stitches to help keep the strap from stretching over time.

I used some leftover deconstructed flannel for the lining, I even incorporated the bit of the sleeve with a slit so your hand can fit through as a pocket.

I sewed the strap to the lining on the bottom part, and reinforced the top band with more slip stitches, so I could sew the strap to it without it distorting the knit fabric too much.

overall this was a fun project and I think I want to play around more with public domain/old patterns

Finally finished these fingerless gloves a few days ago. They are made from yarn with possom fiber (new zeland possoms not american possoms) and since it took me several years to get around to making them I also made a leaf brooch based on the ones from lotr. The recipient likes em and says that they fit well which is great to hear, I'm sure they'll get worn a bunch one autumn rolls around again lol. The last thing I'll say is that I'm glad that I'm getting better at documenting projects before I give them away.

Finally got around to doing more needle binding, and i nade something thats like a completed project and not just some dinky little circle.

The two things I learned are that needlebinding video tutorials are all nonsense and anybody who can actually learn from them is a wizard, and that having an actual needlebinding needle makes things so much easier.

Mine is allegedly aluminum and made by my friend/polished by my partner. In addition to it being the proper tool for the job (I was using a basic yarn needle before) its also got the power of friendship, which definitely makes my stitches look nicer.

I made a little felted basket and embroidered leafy vines on it, because I default to generic fantasy aesthetics (blame tolkien)

No clue what I'll use it for, might end up being full of doll clothes or something. My next needlebinding project might end up being another basket or something else thats starts round and flat. The project I'm working towards is a hip bag based off of the Egtvid girls belt, with contrasting embroidery for the etchings. I think I might even use handspun for the etchings and this same greyish yarn for the base of that project, but I can worry about all that once I actually start the project lol.

At long last I'm learning to use a thimble. To practice I made this doll shirt yesterday using some scrap fabric. It was super clunky at first but I think I might be getting the hang of it.

so ive been trying out spinning again, years ago my partner made me a beautiful drop spindle that I would use sporatically and the hide for months while i work on other projects. It seems 2021 is the year of spinning for me as I got a little bundle of wool roving from my grand parents for my birthday this year (put a pin in that) and I've actually started getting into the groove. It also helps that I finally watch a video tutirial and was no longer refering to my hazy knowledge of a wikihow article I saw in 2015.

I had just finished soaking the mustard colored bit of yarn when I decided to learn how you go from raw fiber to roving, and I decided to use scraps of a too small silk skirt that i got second hand years ago and have been holding on to for fabric. My goal was to test it out and see if I should uses the rest of the silk scraps for yarn.

I started by pulling apart the woven fibers into a bundle

then using my hands and a doll comb that happens to look just like a wool comb (I got the doll that came with this comb for my birthday as well) I aligned the fibers so they were mostly facing the same way and then I started spinning

now heres the twist in my project (pun intended) the whole time Ive been working,on this I have been watching videos about spinning, and in particular videos about distaves which are tools you put your roving on so it dosent get in your way. Turns out theres a holiday called distaff day that is on my birthday! so many coincidences and I'm reeluling from it all. I now know what it feels like to take psychic damage holy shit, i mean the bio of this blog is outlining my quest to learn every fiber art right?

i made this drawing kit thingy on impulse and I gotta say that was a great decision. I had totally forgotton how nice it is to sew felt. i had initially planned for the the crayons to only be held in by snipping the felt strategically, but I did it kinda badly so i ended up blanket stitching a pocket on the front cover side. I do think I'll do this project again but made to fit my typical handmade journal size (regular copy paper folded in half) and on the new one I will probably just stitch the crayon pockets myself and only use snipping for the pencil slot (if at all). Ive been using the notebook as a sorta free form art warm up/ drawing excersize book using the included crayons and some thrifted water based markers i picked up forever ago and rarely use. on that note i picked out crayons from my collection for the pockets.
