Behold, the one finished chapter from an Underfell fic I will never finish.
Sans just used his shortcut magic to evacuate all the monsters from their city of Mountainside, leaving him on the brink of death due to void poisoning and both of you stranded in the midst of a military takeover.
You quickly turned from where you were salvaging supplies from the cabinets to see Sans looking up at you with dim eyelights, still slumped on the kitchen floor where you’d put him earlier.
You crouched down, taking his shaking hands in yours, and opened your mouth to speak, but were cut off by the sound of helicopters, growing louder by the second.
Sans’ eyesockets widened as he realized the situation you were in. “no…” he breathed, barely audible over the noise of the encroaching military.
“no, no, no, nononono…” His bones began to rattle, clacking together loudly, the sound echoing through the empty kitchen and house.
You were going to be found if he kept this up.
“Sans, Sans, I need you to calm down.” you said, trying to keep your voice calm and authoritative despite the adrenaline coursing through you.
You placed his hands on your chest, right over your heart, and the effect was almost immediate.
Sans let out a long, shaky breath and stopped shaking as violently, focused on your pulse, racing, but steady.
His bones were cold, cold as ice, and you shuddered both from the physical and emotional shock of the feeling.
Sans’ magic ran hot, sometimes unbearably so.
Something was wrong.
Your gut twisted, but you did your best to smile.
“So,” you sighed, holding his frigid hands in place with one of yours, using the other to cup his cheekbone and help him look up at you. “Bad news first. We’re still in Mountainside, obviously. The good news is, everybody else made it out. They’re all safe, home free in Port Hardy, just like we planned. You did amazing.”
“...feel like shit…” Sans replied weakly, his eyelights, usually red, a dull, sickly pink, barely shining at all.
“Think you can handle a couple weeks of traveling?”
Sans gave you a tired grin. “don’ think i’m, uh, very…mobile…right now.”
You winced. “Yeah…um, Sans…”
“i’m dyin’.” Sans said dully. “i know…i can feel…my magic drainin’…drainin’ away. lookit my hands, birdie…”
Robin looked down to see that the bones making up Sans’ hands were growing opaque and fuzzy around the edges, specks of dust flaking off them and drifting down onto your coat.
The rest of his bones were in similar shape, slowly deteriorating.
“Nuh-uh.”
“...the fuck you mean…nuh-uh…?”
“Nuh-uh. Nope. No. You’re not dying. I’m not letting you.”
Sans let out a pained chuckle. “...hate to…burst your bubble, birdie…but there’s…there’s basically a black hole…a black hole in my soul now. there’s nothing…you can do. so, please…”
He gripped the fabric of your coat. “...please…go.”
You growled, and San’s eyesockets, which had been drifting shut, snapped open. “I’m not leaving you here, Bonebag.”
Sans opened his mouth to protest, and you shushed him, pressing a finger to his teeth.
“Don’t. Argue. With. Me.” You hissed, punctuating each word with a tap. “Now, use that big head of yours to think. Is there anything that might buy you some time so I can get you home to a doctor?”
Sans’ eyelights flickered the way they did when he was thinking hard, slightly unfocused and staticky, and there was silence for a long moment.
You peered up over the kitchen counter and out the window, seeing searchlights beaming down from the sky in the near distance.
The whirring of helicopter blades was joined by the sound of sirens as somebody activated the breach alarm, meaning that the footsoldiers had arrived.
You started tapping the kitchen tile.
You were running out of time.
“alphys’ lab.” Sans finally said. “she probably…left some shit there we…we can use…”
“Ok, I can get us there, easy. Can you hang on a few more minutes while I grab some stuff for the road?”
“...heh, no promises…”
“Sans...” You said, anxiety creeping over you again.
“wren…wren, listen,” Sans grabbed your jacket, tugging her closer, “...m’not…m’not gonna be able to stay awake…much longer…”
“Hey-”
“shut up, sh…” Sans wheezed, eyelids drooping, “...look for the…the bottles of…of white liquid…s’labled HP, HP…for…for HoPe…an’...the sorta opal…opal-lookin’ shit…s’labled M…for Mana…”
He trailed off, eyelights fizzling out for a moment, before jolting back awake and continuing, quicker than before, almost frantic.
“...there should be, be…be syringes…needta get poin’ three mils of HoPe…an’...an’ poin’ seven of…of Mana…shake it…shake it a little to…to mix it…an’ let…let it sit for a minute…to stabilize…that’s important…don’...don’ do anythin’ until it’s stabilized…”
“How do I know it’s stabilized?”
“pris…prismatic glow…an’ then…then stick it in my…my soul…not the void…”
You winced. “won’t that hurt?”
“...like hell…but…”
“It’s better than dying.” You finished for him. “You sure this’ll work?”
“...it’s…uh, still...still experimental…”
“Lovely.” You said dryly.
Sans chuckled weakly, then clutched his chest, whimpering. “heh…fuck…listen, listen…two half-doses a…a day…an’ a f-full dose…to…t-to top off…if…if i…sta-start to…t-to dust…”
He was slurring his words now, eyesockets shut. “...c-can…can ya re-repeat that…b-birdie?”
“Point three milliliters of white Hope, point seven of opalescent Mana, shake the syringe, let it set until it glows, stick it in your soul. A dose every morning, and every night?”
“...yeah…”
“And another if you start to dust. I’ll write it down.”
You pressed a kiss to his forehead, and another to the top of his skull.
“Hang in there, just hang in there, and I’ll get you home, promise?”
“...p-prom....promise…” Sans breathed, slumping over.
You took a moment to collect your thoughts and shove down your emotions, then shot into action, knowing Sans’ chance of survival decreased with every passing second.
You carried Sans to the couch and gently laid him on the cushions, then ran down the hall to his room after a quick glance out the window confirmed that the helicopters had arrived in the city and were starting to descend.
The noise was nearly deafening now, but as much as it overwhelmed you, you was glad for it.
You could go as fast as you wanted without worrying about being heard.
You found writing supplies in Sans’ desk, and quickly jotted down what he’d told you, shoving the note in your coat’s inner pocket, then turned to the closet.
Sans was still wearing his Judge’s robes, which weren’t practical in any way, shape, or form.
If they were going to make it all the way to Port Hardy, you needed to keep him warm and hidden.
You rummaged around in his closet until you found what you needed. Shirt, skinny jeans, sweatpants, turtleneck, jacket, coat, scarf, hat, socks, boots, gloves.
Hopefully that would be enough to insulate and disguise him.
On her way out of the room, you also grabbed the fancy ceremonial knife Asgore had presented to Sans when he received his title.
Sans hated the thing, but hadn’t wanted to risk getting rid of it, something you were grateful for now it seemed like you might need a weapon.
You threw the clothes on the floor by the couch as you passed by, racing back to the kitchen to finish packing your bag there.
Unfortunately, Papyrus was a big meal prepper, and never kept much in the way of ready-to-eat food around, so you only had a half-empty bulk bag of almonds you’d grabbed for snacking the week before, a few chocolate bars Sans had been stashing, and a box of Cheerios.
But, on the bright side, you’d been able to pick the lock on the cash box under the sink and grab enough human money to buy some food once you got out of the city.
All that was left to do was raid the medicine cabinet.
You climbed on the kitchen counter and opened the cabinet, cursing Papyrus and his long legs for stashing the necessities so high up, grabbing bandages, healing salve, healing potion, tape, and anything else that might be useful before jumping down to shove it all in your bag and running back to the living room.
You tried your best to pull Sans’ gilded robes over his head without jostling him too badly, and failed.
He made a pained noise at the manhandling, but didn’t wake.
You froze when you saw the state of his ribcage, corroded and blackened at the sternum right over where his soul was, mana lines darkened and discolored, an inky, pulsing spiderweb stretching out over dulled bones.
Without thinking, you reached out to touch the affected area, then jerked your hand away as the affected bone crumbled at the slightest brush of your fingers, leaving them covered in dust.
Horrified, you wiped your hand on the couch and hurried to bundle Sans up, determined to get him to the lab before the damage worsened.
Your hands were shaking, making doing up zippers and buttons difficult, but you managed, and by the end, you could barely tell there was a skeleton underneath all of that cloth.
Perfect.
Now the hard part.
You loosened the straps on your pack as far as they would go, and put it on Sans’ back, then knelt down and pulled Sans onto your back, shouldering the straps and tightening them, effectively trapping him in a piggyback sandwich.
Then, you grabbed the rope you’d found under the sink earlier and used it to fasten his legs around your waist so you didn’t have to hold him up the whole time, leaving you hands free.
It was a heavy load, though.
Sans was a little more than a head shorter than you, and mostly empty space, but his bones were heavier than human bones. And then there was the pack…
You doubted that you’d be able to run, let alone scale Mountainside’s outer walls, but you’d find a way.
You had to.
Looking out the window, you saw that the streets were still empty, at least in the center city.
Alphys lab was only a few blocks away.
You made your way to the door, taking one last look at the place you’d made more happy memories in one year than your entire life before, then left, not bothering to close the door behind you.

By the time the elevator opened to the apartment’s ground floor, the helicopters had passed by, but the city was by no means quiet.
As you stepped out the back entrance and into the side alley, you heard engines revving, distant chatter, and the occasional gunshot, making you jump.
You silently prayed that those gunshots were just soldiers being trigger-happy, firing away at shadows or whatever animals were left in the city, and that no monsters had decided to disobey Asgore’s orders and stay behind.
The way to Alphys’ lab was easy enough, even with seventy extra pounds of baggage. Though, with Sans and the pack on her back, you couldn’t climb up to the walkway you usually did when you needed to get there discreetly.
You’d have to risk a walk out in the open, if only to cross one street. The backalleys would get you the rest of the way.
Thank stars for the monsters and their love for shady, mazelike alleyways.
You did your best to move quickly and quietly, peering around every corner before heading down each alley.
Everything was clear so far.
The soldiers seemed to be sticking to the main roads for now, and not entering any buildings yet, and the helicopters were all focused around the palace and The Door, likely attempting to find some trace of the electromagnetic disruption Sans’ portal had caused.
Peeking out the alleyway where you had to cross the main road, you froze.
There was a group of soldiers headed you way, twelve, at least, guns out and ready.
You slowly backed back into the shadows, pressing your side to the wall, waiting, watching.
You couldn’t run, you couldn’t fight, you could only hide and hope they followed the behavior pattern you’d seen before, not looking into alleys, only patrolling the main road.
A minute passed, another.
They were moving slowly.
Much, much too slowly.
Sans could dust any minute, you needed to move.
But moving could mean instant death.
Another minute passed.
Despite the cold, you could feel sweat roll down your neck.
You wanted to check on Sans but didn’t dare move or speak.
They had to be close now.
More gunshots fired, only a few blocks away, and you bit your lip to keep from shrieking.
The soldiers finally moved into view, strolling by at a snail's pace.
You held your breath, completely frozen.
All it would take is one look in the wrong direction, one sweep of a flashlight…
They passed out of sight.
You exhaled slowly, making yourself wait, telling yourself if you rushed out now you’d get both yourself and Sans killed.
You counted to one-hundred, flinching at the sound of more gunshots, adjusting Sans on your back as his bones began to poke at you uncomfortably, making sure your pack straps were tight and the rope was still tied.
Then you chanced a look out into the street.
The soldiers were down to the right, uniforms already disappearing into the gloom of the darkened city as they rounded a bend in the road, and the left was clear.
You looked both ways one more time, checked the skies and the rooftops, then scurried across the street, heart pounding in your ears.
You stumbled on the curb, biting back a yelp as you skinned your palms catching yourself from falling, and scrambled back to your feet, stumbling into the alleyway, not daring to stop and see if the soldiers had caught onto you, rushing down stairs, around corners, and under overhangs, barely able to see more than a step in front of you, relying purely on memory to find your way.
By the time you reached the back entrance to Alphy’s lab, you were panting heavily, chest heaving and heart pounding as your vision was starting to turn white around the edges.
You pulled down your bandana and gulped in lungfuls of air, coughing as the cold stung your throat and stumbling forwards to the heavy steel door before you.
Alphy’s back door had a touchpad entrance, designed to read magic signatures. You were familiar with it, and knew how to trick it, thanks to the mad scientist’s hints, but that wasn’t necessary this time.
You turned around and fumbled for Sans’ hand, pressing it to the touchpad.
As a former royal scientist and a member of The Angel’s Court, he had full clearance to enter.
The machine took a moment longer than usual to register his magic, but eventually let out a pleasant ding, lit of green, causing you to squint and flinch, hoping nobody was near enough to hear or see it, and the door slid open silently, blinding fluorescent light from the lab flooding the alleyway.
You turned back around and hurried inside, blindly reaching out to smack the button to close the door, and letting out a sigh of relief as you heard the lock click back into place.
Alphys’ backlab was magically sealed, and all the entrances were locked.
You were safe here.
Blinking away tears as your eyes adjusted to the light, you made your way to one of the operation tables, ignoring the dark stains spattering the ground around it, and undid the rope and pack straps, laying Sans down and removing layers of clothing with cold-numbed fingers until his ribcage was exposed again.
All of the jostling and the pressure of being tied to your back had caused the decayed sternum to crumble away entirely, leaving his soul fully exposed in a broken cage of blackened bone.
“Well, that’s convenient.” You thought dryly, grasping for the silver lining as your own soul squeezed painfully at the sight of the damage done to its partner.
Sans’ soul usually shone white, surrounded by flecks of red, blue, and yellow magic, results of his status as The Judge and the fall of The Underground. But, now, it didn’t shine at all, all its light and color drained away into the ragged black hole in its center, cracks spreading and leaking dark particles.
And he wasn’t breathing anymore, meaning his magic had all but stopped circulating.
You had to hurry.
You tore herself from his side to go search the lab.
You’d been here before, many times, to visit Alphys and get DT extractions done, and to see Sans while he worked on his various projects, so you had a good idea where things were, or, at least, where they might be.
Whenever Alphys finished an extraction with you, she would take the vials full of unrefined soul traits and put them in that cabinet over by the tank with the half-formed creature in it.
So, the refined traits had to be near it, right?
Thankfully, Alphys was short, so all of her cabinets were easily reachable, and you were able to throw them open, finding the white and opalescent vials in a matter of seconds.
Syringes were also easy.
You knew exactly where Alphys got them from, thanks to your phobia driving you to track her every movement when she dealt with the things, the second drawer to the left.
You pulled the note out of her pocket, checking the instructions, then carefully pulled the required amounts of each liquid into the syringe, giving it a gentle shake, and walked back over to Sans.
“Hey,” you said raspily, then coughed a little, clearing your throat. “We made it to Alphys’, and I’ve got your fix, right here.”
You laughed at your own stupid joke, filing the silence where Sans’ own chuckle would usually go, then took his hand, shivering at his frigid touch and the sensation of dust clinging to your skin.
You glared at the frustratingly dull white liquid in the syringe, muttering, “Come on, come on, come on…”
For an agonizing eternity, you waited, clutching Sans’ hand, half-expecting it to dissolve into dust at any moment, the silence of the lab pressing in on you, making your own heartbeat seem as loud as the sirens and helicopters outside had been.
Then, suddenly, the syringe flared up with brilliant, iridescent light, like liquid diamond caught in a sunbeam.
You wasted no time, leaning over Sans, whispering a hurried, “sorry”, and plunging the needle into his soul before you had time to be repulsed by what you were doing.
The effect was immediate.
Sans screamed, a gutteral, broken sound you’d never heard before, thrashing on the operating table, forcing you to pin him down with the hand that wasn’t holding the syringe, and his soul flared bright, a pulse of warmth and light spreading through his frozen bones.
The black void in his soul didn’t go away, but the cracks and discolored mana lines receded, a little bit of its original glow returning.
The hand you were grasping solidified, no longer disintegrating away, and twitched as Sans took a deep, shuddering breath.
You stepped back, letting the syringe drop to the floor, and slumped into a chair by the bedside, utterly exhausted, feeling tears starting to run down your face.
You reached up to wipe them away, then froze at the realization that your hands were covered in dust.
Sans’ dust.
Shaking, you stumbled over to the sink and scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed until there wasn’t a speck of dust left, splashing some cold water on your face to try and wake up and snap out of whatever shock was trying to take hold of you.
Sans was unconscious, and definitely still extremely sick, but stable, for now.
You needed to stock up on meds, and use Alphy's computer to plan your route to Port Hardy.
The lab was quiet and safe, but you couldn't let this temporary sanctuary lull you into a false sense of security.

Sans Undertale is from the original universe of Undertale. He’s incredibly laid back, makes a skele-ton of puns, is too self aware for his own good, and is very popular amongst monsters. He struggles with his motivation, and after being imprisoned in the Underground for as long as the monsters were, it took a toll on his world view. Daily things started to lose their meaning. Now that they’re freed, beginning a new life on the surface with his brother has been difficult but not impossible. He’s always had an interest in constellations and now that he can finally see them, he stays up later than he usually would just to see them.
Papyrus: (he/him)
Words of Affirmation & Gift Giving
PDA: 6/10, he will show his partner off, they’re dating The Great Papyrus, which means that they’re nearly as great as him. He will make that known.

Papyrus is from the original universe of Undertale. He’s kind and sees the best in everyone but that does not mean he can’t hold his own, though everyone seems to believe the opposite. Papyrus is very confident in himself and is passionate about everything, as in he’s the type to go all out with the holiday decorations a month too early. His passion for cooking has also multiplied tenfold after taking a few months of cooking lessons with Toriel, his food is edible now!
Unlike his brother, Papyrus was very active during his time in the Underground. He was a regular puzzle maker and was determined to join the Royal Guard. His determination follows him to the surface.

Scout is from the Underswap universe. He is very approachable and kind, but a force to be reckoned with when it comes to combat. He’s a part of the Royal Guard on the surface, which is still established in this universe.
He does not have any normal Sans abilities, but he doesn’t need them. He loves humans, and considers Chara family to him; he wants nothing more than for monsterkind to be accepted.
Scout has a not-so surprising love for tacos, and is a great cook. He also loves dogs, like probably too much.

He’s so smart because he had to raise his little brother, Scout, and wanted to be the best he could for him and after looking after him for so long, he’s never truly learned how to turn older brother mode off, meaning if there’s a kid nearby that looks even the slightest bit distressed, he’s by them in an instant.

Coming from an Underground of violence, he views vulnerability as weak and beneath him. Though, ironically, he’s close with his brother. Opposing his very loud personality, he can be very soft spoken dare I say, even kind when the moment calls for it.

They’re very soft spoken and kind. He gives more than they realistically can and because of that can face a lot of stress, so much stress in fact, that it can lead to physical pains and aches. He refuses to allow people to see that though.
They hold their friends close and do their best to make that known as much as he can.

He doesn't understand love languages because he's still new to love in general, he just likes affection (he would probably lean toward Gift Giving though).

He doesn’t understand social cues and his emotions may be unstable due to their artificiality. but he’s very curious and has observed his friends to understand basic physical gestures like hugging, high fives, etc.
He is a bit of a scatterbrain with the worst memory possible, so he writes down important things he should remember on the back of his scarf. He is also probably too aware of the concept of them all being characters for his own good.

Error may even be chill, unless you say something he takes as an insult, which could realistically be anything.

He primarily uses he/him but does use any pronouns.
Similarly to Ink, he doesn't understand love languages because he's still new to love, he is very touchy though.

Being a parasite, it stunts him emotionally, he can learn to feel emotions, he just may not understand normalities. He’s very curious and doesn’t comprehend social norms, so he may push boundaries without realizing.

I love writing but ohmystars sometimes I overthink it too much. I talk myself out of responding to asks so frequently because I want them to be perfect, but then I remind myself that it's literally fanfiction and nobody is taking a magnifying glass to it.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of all the monsters that appear in Undertale? Like, all of them, all of them, NPCs, mentions, implied existences, the ones that appear in the 10th anniversary stream, ect.
I've found a lot of different lists but none with the amount of detail I'm looking for. If it doesn't exist I'll make it myself, but I figured I'd ask before going through all that work because I'm a busy cat.
XGaster is an authoritarian parent who treats his 'kids' like investments at best and pawns/characters in his story at worst. The times he is cruel are only made worse by the times he is kind and the geniune care that sometimes shows through his obsession with his story.
Cross grew up the golden child, always doing what he was told and even going beyond that, trying to earn affirmation, love, whatever, and later became a rebellious adult who was willing to burn herself and everyone around her to get free.
XPapyrus grew up the rebellious child, always questioning eveything and refusing to do or not do anything that didn't make sense to him, and later became a beaten down, obedient adult because he learned the hard way that trying to make things better only made things worse and the best thing to do was to keep his head down and pretend everything was fine.
This headcanon is based on stuff in the Xtale comics but Im too tired to explain right now ghghuhhhhh. Might draw this later if I'm feeling up to it idk
I was listening to this TMA banger and thought about Sans so I drew a thing :3. It's mixed media with pen/watercolor, which was cool to try out but I don't think I'll be doing it again since it just made the colors mucky.
I especially love the lines "I don't wanna be a player, I don't wanna be a pawn, I don't wanna be a token in your game", "I hope it all was worth it, God I know it wasn't worth it", and "I hope it hurts when the world caves in on you"
And at the end it goes (are you still listening?) like how Sans does the phonecalls at the end of the game fhfhfhhhgfhgfhgf

I've read a couple fics that advertise as both reader/sans and oc/sans and are written like that, and I really enjoyed them, so I wanted to give it a shot.

I'm working on an OC self-insert reader/sans Post-Pacifist AU fic because it's fun and cathartic. It's called Six Legs, it's a slow burn, it's got omegaverse shit, it's got religous trauma, it's got BAMF Papyrus, it's got hanahaki, it's got cryptids, it's got plot-relevant smut, it has enough headcanons and world building to stock your rapture-proof bunker, and, best of all, it's got my boy Cricket, a nonbinary little freak who I have given almost all of my problems to and am using like a stress ball.
I'm writing this for me, but we're all having fun here so I'll probably be running polls for some stuff, and the question for today is...

I currently have a sweet'n'spicy little oneshot in the drafts right now that should be done soon. It's not related to the larger story but it's a good taste the vibe I'm going for, so that'll be nice.
Also, please comment what kinds of things/tropes you've seen in Sans/Reader or fics in general that you'd be interested in seeing more of! I may or may not try to include some that I vibe with, and I'm actually pretty curious about the kinds of things people like to see in these sorts of fics.
