How, if at all, is food used as decoration in your world?
The fruits have a tendency to use fruit art of their own like (oranges will have art of oranges, etc).
Often lower social status groups will have art of highers status groups (such as Oranges and Apples) as a way of "respecting" (more like appeasing?) those in power.
would guys like tomatoes that are perceived as vegetables but actually arent live in vegetable town or fruit island? how are they treated?
Tomatoes have long ago sided with the vegetables on the mainland. They've been banished from Fruit Island.
Let's just say, Vegetable Town is a much more welcoming place than Fruit Island lmao

How old was Cherri when they got adopted? And is inter-fruit adoption common? Is it frowned upon?
Cherri was 7! it took the parents time to make the decision, but as soon as they realized their child had an accent they wanted to get rid of them. They were literally dropped off on a random road in a different town, the way some people do with pets they don't want (which is bullshit btw). Honey and Crisp found them two days later and took them in.
Also inter-fruit adoption is very rare because it is very much frowned upon. People tell Cherri they're lucky that of all fruits it was apples who adopted them, because people were less likely to look down on them (though some certainly did). Of course it would have been even better for her (or so they say) if their adoptive parents were oranges. Then most fruits would be too intimidated to comment.
How does the monarchy keep people from entering/leaving fruit island? Is there a fruit police? Fruit military?!
Fruit Island is an island with no boats. Boats are immoral, apparently
And there's a guard system (unlike police they don't have a quota to meet, they just have to stay at their post and guard and partol) which watches over the island, especially the populated areas. They might not even know if someone was building a boat deep in the forest...
How has the relationship between different species, races, nationalities or other groups changed over time?
the different fruits don't actually have any power advantages over others, but not all fruits have realized their abilities. because of that, the oranges abuse their power in order to control the other fruits to their liking.
the apples came into being the royals because one wise apple was elected by the other fruits many many years ago, and then the rest used the "same juice excuse", which basically works like someone saying they are blood related to someone good so obviously they have to be just as good and deserve to be in power. the quality of the monarchy deteriorated over time (with some ups and down), and still resides today.
at some point a group of figs tried to challenge the monarchy, which ended in all figs being banished from fruit island. today the word "fig" is used synonymously to a swear word.
fruits with accents used to be similarly banished from fruit society or, in some points in history, killed on the spot. it's fairly recent for fruits with accents to be allowed to live in society, let alone allowed to attend school or hold any sort of position in society that's worth respect. professor peach is the first teacher with an accent, and is teaching one of the first classes for kids with accents.
fruits were always almost always a group that preferred to isolate itself from other plants. they in fact used to trade with vegetable town, but it wasn't long after the creation of the monarchy that trade with all other lands was banished. since then fruit island has been an isolated place, with no one allowed to enter or exit
What does O range think about that old mindset that Oranges should be respected and feared?
he never really felt like he was respected or feared by his parents so although his parents very much support that idea, he never felt superior to anyone. not to mention some people at school bullied him (im looking at you, strawby) so he never really felt it.
he never liked the way his parents were acting but he tended to be too scared to do or say anything about it. at least not until cherri spoke up first. they kinda opened all of theur friends eyes about the situation

fun fact about fruits is that even though majority look perfectly human, none of them have thumbs. they just clasp their hands and struggle. yeah.

honestly any fruit puns.. they're used so often many people are so sick of them already.
some people incorporate them into every day speech and treat it as normal speech and it annoyed the hell out of others XD
and some, especially kids, will keep telling them and they'll just lose it. and those are the best, good for those kids
