being home was odd, to say the least. he hadn’t seen the place since high school, and maybe a holiday or two during his college days. but now? right now it felt like nostalgia was suffocating him from every side. he left all his things at home before setting off, not too keen on making small talk with his mother about the company and how he was settling into the atmosphere of his father’s office building—how amazing japan was. checking out the place he grew up—seeing how much it had changed or not changed—that was far more interesting.

spotting jaeseong as he happened upon the old playground where they all used to convene, a smile parted skylar’s lips. he missed his friends more than anything. “hey!” he called over, hands in his coat pockets as he walked over. “y’know, this was the last place i was expecting to find any of you.” he pursed his lips, head tilting slightly. “so? find anything ancient?”

jaeseong heard a familiar voice and quickly looked over their shoulder. jae’s calm square mouth turned into the biggest smile. skylar, the boy that jae was attached to the hip as a child. most people thought they were siblings. standing up quickly, jae grabbed the other into the tightest hug ever. “hey stranger, “ they replied. “ were you looking for me? jae asked pulling away from the others body. “mmm...no. i was about to go to look in the tunnel over there.” jae pointed over towards the green tunnel. “i was wondering if any of our drawings were still there.” jae wasn’t sure because there was far too many inappropriate things drawn in the tunnel. “you need to tell me all about japan.”

in a drunken state, he manages to remain blissfully unaware of the very dangerous game he’s playing: a game that only allows for old feelings to be given a joust & current feelings to be, well… hurt, for lack of a better word. ‘ why wouldn’t i want you kiss you, jae ? i– i don’t want to forget. ’ the back of his hand brushes along the other’s jaw, ‘ i KNOW you’re a good kisser, i missed kissin’ you. that’s why, honest. ’

deeply sighing out loud. this was all going against their better judgement. more than anything jae wanted the other to be happy. but was it worth being hurt yourself for someone else’s happiness. “i don’t know? okay, you’re so confusing when you’re like this,” jae mumbled. they leaned into micah’s soft touch. “if i kiss you once will you let it go?”

it’s not a particularly groundbreaking kiss, but it’s enough to wash a feeling of content over the smaller of the pair; enough to have him chasing after jae’s lips as he pulls pack. a mischievous grin tugs on his lips, ‘ jaeseong, ’ he whines again, but this time it’s in a playful manner, ‘ i know for a fact that you can do better than that. ’

why did the other have to be so cute? it wasn’t fair. jae didn’t have these feelings while they were away at college, sure micah started calling them up after things with kyle. telling jae how much he missed them. but this was somehow different, jae was finally face to face with the other and they couldn’t hide behind their phone screen this time. “why do you want me to kiss you?” they asked. “so you can just forget about me in the morning?”

another whine tumbles by plump lips, and suddenly he’s entirely made up of furrowed brows and dramatic frowns. ‘ do you really think that, jae ? i don’t … i don’t think that it was a lie. i loved you, jaeseong park. it’s okay if you didn’t love me back. my fiance didn’t either. but i did love you, honest. ’ he sighs, pressing into the gentle touch along his flushed cheeks. ‘ that’s okay too, if you really think so. i’d just– i’d really appreciate it, if you would like to kiss me, is all. ’

jae sighed, they did love micah too. but they were better just friends and that’s what they thought as soon as they both left to go off to college. “i did love you to,” jae replied. god, micah was going a great job of making them feel bad. jae decided that micah isn’t allowed to drink anymore when they are around because jae couldn’t handle how guilty micah was making them feel. “i -” jae quickly left a small peck on the others lips. it was just a small platonic kiss and nothing more. “there a kiss.”

being back home felt weird, it was like nothing had change in this small town. just the faces were getting older. this cold afternoon, jae made their way to the small park near their grandmothers house or should they say their house now? jae did own the little blue house on the hill. making their way over to a swing, jae plopped right down on the small black seat. jaeseong looked over to the jungle gym, reminiscing to the night the group hung out in small green tunnel. it was such a tight squeeze but they made it work. they wondered if the drawings and the writing were still there? it would be great if they were jae thought.

micah frowns, slumping against the other in a way to show that he’s harmless: just a little lonely tonight. a gentle hand reaches to pull them closer to micah’s level, breath ghosting over jaeseong’s neck as he lets out something between a whine and a sigh in response the other words. it’s a gentle way to let him down easily, he supposes, but he burrows closer. “ i didn’t mean like that. i meant– don’t you think about kissing me ? remember high school ? we had so much fun, we were in love, weren’t we ? ” another overly dramatic sigh escapes. “ i’m tipsy, bug. i’m tipsy and i want to kiss you. ”

jae shivered feeling the others warm breath on their neck. they agreed that this wasn’t fair. of course jae thought about kissing him. micah was a nice kisser, not that jae has kissed many people to compare. “how could i forget high school, those were the best years of my life with the whole group. but maybe we just thought we were in love... we only agreed to be friends, didn’t we?” they tenderly brush their thumb against the others flushed red cheeks (most likely from the alcohol.) “i don’t think it’s a good idea that we should.”

he’s downed a few too many shots of whatever they’ve been serving up at skylar’s house– and, as expected, the liquid courage has sent him on a mission to find jaeseong & attach himself to the other for the night. it’s easier, he thinks, to wrap himself up in someone that’s familiar; someone that’s never shut him out with rejection before. he smiles when he finds them, “ jae ! baby, sweetie– there you are ! ” the pet names roll off of his tongue easily, “ i’ve missed you, have i told you that ? because i totally have … missed kissing you, too. it’s been a while, hasn’t it ? ” he pauses, pout forming as he noses along the other’s jaw, “ ——don’t you ever think about me ? ”

jae seen this coming that micah would find them. it’s not like jae was avoiding him at least not on purpose. it took them awhile to figure out that micah only acted this way when drunk. at first jae liked it when the other would call them late at night, they missed the other but soon it turned into confusion. jae wasn’t sure if they liked this anymore. “ i - i ,” jae stuttered. this was so awkward, jae is awkward. not really knowing what to do in a situation like this. “of course, i think about you, you’re my friend.” jae crinkled their nose. “you’re drunk,” they frowned. the only time someone wanted jae was when they’re drunk.
