Happy Birthday ‘Poetry of the Deed’!
I saw Frank Turner on the Undefeated tour this weekend! It was an absolute banger of a show, even on a Friday at midnight after a looong week!
He played lots of new stuff, but lots of classics too. I moshed for the first time, which was really fun! My ponytail almost got ripped out a couple times bc everyone was so sweaty it kept sticking to people lmao 😳 and my legs were covered in beer and sticky at the end of the night.
So much fun! This was my third FT concert and hopefully there will be more to come!
UNDEFEATED
Another banger of an album from Frank Turner! I did a full listen through and gave my opinions of FTHC and I want to do one for Undefeated too!
There's a strong theme of self-hate and the desperate growth towards self-acceptence throughout this album. Ceasefire, In Between, East Finchley, Undefeated, Pandemic PTSD, and even Do One all speak to that.
Do One- I really like this song, its message, and its catchiness. Don't take anyone's shit!!!! hell yeah!
Never Mind the Back Problems- A quick, catchy little declaration for his love of punk! This is a fun song
Ceasefire- This song was really moving. Self acceptance as a desperate truce. Also good to listen to! 'Now I’m old enough to see: There’s a million different people You will be before you’re me" oag.
Girl From the Record Shop- This song is catchy and fun, but not my favorite.
Pandemic PTSD- I'm not really sure if I like this one. I did think "we got punched in the dick for two straight years" was funny!
Letters- I swear FT is the king of the hook! I really liked the one in this song, and enjoyed the whole song thoroughly.
East Finchley- a sweet, sad song. The places we call home change, and it's ok to miss them.
No Thank You for the Music- This song was one of the album pre-releases. I think it has a good message about conformity to the scene but honestly was not my fav. The music video made me laugh a little- just him lipsynching along making grouchy faces against an obvious green screen. This was probably an artistic choice!
The Leaders- Another catchy song with a good message, but again not a fav of mine.
International Hide and Seek Champions- I like this song! It gives me the same vibes of the Be More Kind album, kind of apocalyptic- runaway type.
Show People- This song is really sweet to me. you can do it, you can tell your story, even when it's hard! The love for music-makers and show people reminds me of Balthazar Impressario, which I love very much.
On My Way- Not a song I will be listening to on repeat, but a very sweet song that reminds us that touring artists are away from home and their loved ones. Also, every sweet song to his wife makes me smile thinking of all the songs he wrote about heartbreak and loneliness earlier in his career. He made it and found love, and I think we all will too.
Somewhere In Between- This song made me cry the first time I listened to it. As an autistic person who has been masking for longer than I can remember, this song really resonates with me.
"Blinking in the light, emerging into something. Something isn’t right, something isn’t working. No one on my side, no sense of where I’m standing. Half my fucking life caught somewhere in between...
Half my fucking life blinking in the darkness, Stuck on the outside, sick and mostly harmless, A stranger to myself, but still chasing their forgiveness For anything I did when I was somewhere in between."
screaming, crying, throwing up, etc
14. Undefeated- I wasn't expecting this album's namesake song to be a quiet, slow one. but I think it's impactful and the way it swells in the last chorus really hit for me. Survival adds up to something!!!
Thanks for hanging with me and reading what I had to say about the album! Not super deep or thorough, but I'm not a critic, just a hardcore fan!
I can't wait to see the undefeated tour this spring!
my name is balthazar impresario and tonight will be my last night on the stage. if you even care.

gossiping
anyways, I take back everything I said about Farewell to my City in my review of FTHC! I'm obsessed with it right now.
Image descriptions under the cut:
i love you singers whose vocals sound desperate i love you musicians who sound like if you don’t get this song out you’re going to explode i love you songs that sound like they’re dragging the vocalist with them 80 miles per hour down the highway tied to the back of a truck i love you voice cracks in emotional songs i love you unique voices i love you music that disturbs the comfortable and comforts the disturbed
Love pieces of music where you can just feel how passionate the composer was. Like they really put their whole compussy into it and it shows.

FTHC is a week old!!!
gave it a few good listen throughs and I want to share my thoughts! It's pretty obv I'm not a critic so don't take me too seriously- also don't expect anything really profound or well written ~( ̄▽ ̄)~*
1. Non Serviam -> honestly, I wasn't a huge fan. I didn't really like that I couldn't understand what he was saying. I really liked the hook about his principles though!
2. The Gathering -> I liked this one when it first came out and I like it now! I have been missing the feeling when we close up the gaps between us.
3. Haven't been doing so well -> this song really really resonated with me. When it first came out, I listened to it on repeat for weeks. Especially the part about not being anything but uncomfortable me- that hit hard.
4. Untainted Love -> phew this ones hard! Several people I love have struggled with addiction, and as I listened to this song I wondered wheat they would think of it. It's a tough song.
5. Fatherless -> another hard hitter! It definitely sounds better with all the background instrumentals than it did acoustic when I heard it live in September! I like the sound and the feel of it a lot.
6. My Bad -> I feel pretty eh about this one. I read in an article that it's a pot shot at Eton, where he went to school. Idk though
7. Miranda -> I adore this song! It's catchy, it's sweet, it's acceptance. FT says trans rights!
8. A Wave across the Bay -> this song gives me Goosebumps whenever I listen to it, but especially on his release live stream when he played it acoustic and it was just so sad and so profound. it has me like
9. The Ressurectionists -> I liked this one! It is very relatable ( ̄▽ ̄)" I really like the callback to I Knew Prufrock, although it's kind of sad to hear that they've drifted. It's really catchy and fun and I like it!
10. Punches -> this song is fun to listen to! It's not super profound or whatever, but it's a good reminder to keep your head up and keep on punching back
11. Perfect Score -> reading the lyrics, I get the feeling that some terminally online bs inspired this one lol. I like it tho!
12. The Work -> this shit cute as hell!!!!! He also played this one at the concert back in september, and I liked it then and I like it now! I was suprised at how different it sounds acoustic vs not
13. Little Life -> it's a sweet song ㄟ( ▔, ▔ )ㄏ but other than that I don't have much to say about it. I kinda feel like- little life? you mean the life of the rest of us??
14. Farewell to my city -> a breakup song, but for moving out of London. it was sweet but idk if I'll be pulling it up to listen to again.
15. The Zeitbeast -> a fun song about a little beast that helps musicians! It's cute and I like it.
16. The House where I was raised -> woe oh woe house etc ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
also -> why tf is there no ordering on the song list on his web site? all the songs are jumbled together and you have to fight for your life to find the one you're looking for
you know what dad? maybe i don't wanna be the saviour of the broken, the beaten and the damned. it's a lot of pressure to put on me and honestly i've been feeling stressed recently because of it
hold on lemme google something
ok yeah this is funny
