Not big on crowds. And let’s face it, the crowd’s not too hot on me, either.

I’m not the man I was. I learned you got to do things to survive in this world.
In Plato’s Cave || Indy & Nic

Indy groaned softly at the concept of tolerating heat to get to the caves. If they were going to continue this friendship, he was going to have to insist on some places to meet being in air conditioning. Or at the very least at night. Morning….Well, he was not a morning person. And he didn’t really mind heat - he hated cold - it was just there was a point where things felt too hot.
“I think I need a break from tea. We’ve had a lot of it lately,” he replied honestly. “Maybe the juice. It’s probably good, right?” came the agreement as he followed the other man back into the sun.
“You give the impression that you’re used to it. The weather,” he clarified, nodding at Nic’s lack of hat. “Otherwise you wouldn’t forget one.”
“I have come to like this forsaken place in its own way, the heat is part of that I guess. You quickly understand why no one bothers to wear black around here. We all blur into a sea of khaki and cream.” Nic nodded to a couple of familiar faces as he moved along the market. This was his station, his post, and even though it had seemed a bit like a punishment at first, he was adjusting to it.
“Tea is life, my friend, it is one of the few things that distinguishes us from our early ancestors. There is a cultivation component to tea that transcends our baser natures.” He walked along with his hands in his pockets, moving toward the juice stall. “Plus tea is good for conversation. I’ve enjoyed our afternoons.”
He stopped at the juice stall and placed an order. “I think you’ll like this, it looks a bit like dirty water, but the taste is pleasing enough....and very unlike the tea I’ve been subjecting you to.”
Fortunately and unfortunately, people don’t see me as a character actor. They see me as a leading man or nothing, which makes it really hard to get work.

There was a doubt in his words, whiskey dulling the senses… because every fiber of her being seemed to be hyper-aware that he’d leaned in closer. The way his fingers traced her skin. Murphie’s eyes were on their hands, voice soft, “An’ ye know t’is for certain, or need’ta test t’is theory o’yours?”
“I’m certain that I don’t mind the taste...” Still leaning close, he maneuvered to sit beside her, his hand resting in hers, palm to palm. “And I’m sure that my senses are heightened, this is my second cup.” He was a fraction of an inch from her, noses almost brushing. “The nature of theoretical sciences is testing...always testing.”

Eyes traced from the offered glass, to his lips. Slowly – very slowly back up to his eyes. That was a pretty tempting offer, even if it was over matcha. “I could, bu’ m’afraid y’taste t’e whiskey too.” Or, maybe he’d look over that. A brow raised at his statement. “Aye, m’sure I could.”
“Taste I don’t mind, just don’t like drinking it, dulls the senses.” A wisp of a smile played at his lips. “The matcha on the other hand heightens awareness...” Nic leaned in closer, his finger tip caressing her palm, “...in all things.”
In Plato’s Cave || Indy & Nic
indyflanery:
Making his way back through the familiar market, Indy wiped at the sweat beading at his forehead before replacing his hat in top of his head. Midday was probably a terrible time for them to decide on this excursion when it was so warm in North Africa, but he wasn’t going to call it off now. He actually was looking forward to this, and enjoyed the other man’s company. Honestly, it was quite surprising, considering they did not seem like a likely match.
Spies and archaeologists were not the most likely of friends, but here they were. And he made very few real friends with his traveling that he was hoping this could be one of them. Rounding a corner, he spotted Nic leaning against a wall by the rug merchant waiting for him and he smiled. He almost waved for his attention but stopped himself at the last minute, second-guessing the action, figuring his friend probably didn’t want extra attention drawn to himself. Instead, he approached him more low key.
“Sorry,“ he apologized, hoping for the one spot of shadow in the whole market. “Usually I’m more on time. But it was harder to get going today. We should have considered doing this earlier or later when it wasn’t as hot.”
Nic smiled as he saw Indy approaching, offering his hand in greeting as he drew closer. “No worries, I was actually running a bit of recon while I waited for you. Business and pleasure walk hand in hand for me I’m afraid.” He pulled his sunglasses back down to cover his eyes and took one last glance in the direction of the merchants he’d been observing before taking a quick look up and down the market.
“Perhaps, but the caves will be cool, and it’s the best time of day to see them. The walk back this evening will be nice. We’ll just have to tolerate a bit of the heat on the way there. Can I get you something to drink? Some hibiscus tea or tamarind juice maybe? There’s a stall just up the way.”
He gestured in the direction they were going to head and stepped out into the market. “I probably should have brought a hat, sometimes I forget how unforgiving the sun can be here.”
fuckingeigersanction:
“If yer so sure abou’ it, y’first.” She teased him with a smile. Because to her, it’d just be a damn shame to ruin a perfectly good pint or shot with that stuff. “W’at is it t’at I’m so needin’ t’be enlightened on?” Her fingers moved subtly, as his brushed against hers. Soft returns.
“Now you know I won’t do that, but you’re more than welcome to take a sip of mine.” He brought his cup forward, offering it as he leaned in closer. “Or if you’re not sure, you’re welcome to taste it from my lips first.” His fingertip moved up to circle at her wrist. “As far as enlightenment goes, I bet you could teach me a thing or two.”
fuckingeigersanction:
There’s a smirk - She’s trying her best to hide it behind her own glass, but it’s definitely there. “Y’keep yer… stuff. M’good.”
“The powder mixes just fine with what you’ve got in your cup there. I’ve never tried it myself, but I’ve seen it done. Might help you to attain enlightenment.” He lay his hand along side hers on the table and caressed the back of her hand with his fingertips.
fuckingeigersanction:
“ Sláinte ”
“To your health, darlin’,” he smiled at her over the edge of his mug, “Sure you don’t want some of mine?”
I’ll give him orders! Nay, Jud.
