Animals don't have voices, but together, we do, and we must speak for them. I'm Jen, and animals are the most important thing in my life. 19 years old. Washington, DC. Photographer. Environmentalist. Veg. Double major in Environmental Studies and Geography at The George Washington University. Former president of the HHH Teen Animal Protector's club, and hoping to someday dedicate my whole life to animals. Aspiring naturalist and wildlife photographer.
“The least I can do is speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves.”- Jane Goodall I have spent four summers studying wildlife and photography with National Geographic in Iceland, Tanzania, Alaska, and Australia. Although I love all animals, wildlife conservation is just my thing."Born a wildlife warrior, die a wildlife warrior" - Steve IrwinI'm a cat lady with six adorable kitties but polar bears are my favorite animals. My goals in life are to work for Nat Geo as an expert and photographer, and to be the female Steve Irwin/Jack Hanna/Casey Anderson. Thank you for following and sharing the passion for animals that I have.
Fuck you and your lame hippy bullshit. If we can eat animals, but not eat most of everything else, don't you think we were Supposed to eat animals? Why then, does it matter how they die, when it's clear they aren't the same as us? Or when once they're dead they're dead?- it matters that they suffered for one minute back when they were alive? It's such fruity ridiculous crap to cause people problems for attention, when it makes no sense whatsoever, and I think that's even clear to you
Hi! I was wondering if you could reccomend some good alternatives to dairy milk, besides soy milk? Thank you very much and I admire you and your blog a lot
Hi, thank you! I prefer almond milk the best. I usually get vanilla flavored almond milk and I love using it in my coffee. It gives it a sweeter, less bitter taste and adds a little tiny pinch of a nutty flavor as well.
There is also rice milk, which is good, and coconut milk is good as well if you like the taste of coconut.
I’m currently involved with a campaign against the cruelty of the dairy industry, our aim is to get these two billboards in the publics eye around Adelaide for a full year. We cannot do this without funding, please if you have any money to spare at all, donate on our gofund page.
This campaign and these billboards are important, they are exposing the truth that the dairy industry tries to hide, that calves are killed and cows are harmed for their milk. It features actual rescued animals from the dairy industry, and without your help, they can’t continue this campaign or any of their vital work.
Dairy is one of the cruelest industries, and with your help we can highlight this to the general public. I know money is tight for everyone, but if you could spare even a few dollars, it all adds up.
Will you continue to sit there and do nothing while the dairy industry steals calves and kills them? or will you help to fight this?
Dairy cruelty campaign go fund me
If you’re alive, and you plan to stay that way, we’re guessing you’re cool with the concept of medicine. But while those tablets of yours may be churned out by thousands of machines today, they’re the product of a long research adventure, one chapter of which almost certainly involved folks in white coats sticking a rodent with needles until it died.
Or, rather, tens of thousands of rodents.
We sat down with someone who handled the animals in a couple of different labs, and what we learned was even more horrifying than we could have thought.
WARNING: THE FOLLOWING IS DISTURBING AS FUCK.
I Tested Drugs on Animals: 5 Insane Things I Learned
I know I don’t normally do this, but this is a cause that is very near to my heart, and I want to get this message out. There is an animal shelter 2 towns away from me (Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh, NY) that is extremely corrupt and run by people who care more about themselves than the animals. They are given an extremely large budget (one of the largest shelter budgets in the country) and most of the money goes to paid workers that are hired by the town. The animals that are taken to this shelter are starved, neglected, and abused. About 4 years ago, my dad and a few of his friends started a campaign against the shelter (Hope for Hempstead Shelter) to get the word out about the corruption and hopefully make revisions to their processes. While the campaign became popular nationally, the shelter is still using some horrific methods of “caring” for these animals. The unpaid volunteers that have spoken out against the cruelty have been “banned.” This poor guy, Rebel, is one of hundreds of examples of the cruelty that has occurred in this shelter, along with the famous “Kill the kitty” video that my dad helped release to the public. The video shows the shelter’s director cheering on a man about to euthanize a kitten for fun. (I don’t recommend watching this, but if you’d like to you can find it on Youtube under “Pat Horan kill the kitty.”) Rebel was sadly not one of the shelter’s favorites, and was starved and kept alone in his kennel for months after being labeled “food aggressive”. Starving animals will almost always be food aggressive. He needed surgery on 2 of his legs, which he never received, although the shelter made note of his condition. Currently, he is sick, distressed, and in desperate need of donations to help cover his boarding fees, surgery, rehabilitation, and training to undo the damage that the Town of Hempstead Shelter has caused. If you want to make a donation, you can find a link on the Facebook page attached above. However, the bigger picture here is spreading the word of the damage this shelter has done to many animals and preventing it from happening again. Please reblog this post and help spread awareness for Rebel and the many animals that have suffered as he has.
Thank you for telling me about this, Kat. Is there a petition yet, on change.org?
Everyone, please spread the word! This kind of cruelty needs to stop. It’s inhumane and needs to be called out for this. Reblog and like this so that many others will see it. We need to start a petition…
There is no petition on change.org, but I do know that there is a pile of formal complaints against the shelter sitting in the DA's office. The person who adopted Rebel has also collected a lot of formal complaints. Progress has definitely been made since 2011, but not enough. Spread the word!
You can also send an email or a letter to the NYS Senate to enact the laws described in the link below. This could be a huge stepping stone in animal rights and we need all the support we can get!
Seaworld California, a company that boasts its conservation efforts, is cited for dumping illegal amounts of toxic waste into Mission Bay
Outside of the thousands of birds crapping in the water, one of the biggest polluters of Mission Bay is SeaWorld itself. SeaWorld was fined $6,000 for dumping excessive ammonia and animal waste into the Bay.
SeaWorld is the largest discharger of water into the Bay and has been a known polluter of the body of water, as the bay has been on California’s list of impaired water bodies for several years as it does not meet the Clean Water Act standards.
Beginning in 2004, Clean Water Act violations against SeaWorld began surfacing when several shocking complaints had been made public. A local blogger cites: “In the year 2000 SeaWorld’s water quality permit was violated eight consecutive times within a six month period. It was violated again in the year 2002.”
There were more violations:
“the California Regional Water Control Board also brought forth more shocking information. The agency states the following, “Since April 13, 2005, there have been numerous violations of effluent limitations at the facility, including three exceedances of Ammonia, six exceedances of Enterococcus, and one exceedance of Total coliform. Furthermore, there have been multiple months in which required sampling was not reported. The constituents not sampled have included pH, Total coliform, Fecal Coliform, Enterococcus, and Total Residual Chlorine.”
There’s other issues of pollution that SeaWorld is directly involved in. Did you ever wonder where on earth SeaWorld takes the waste from its large mammals? It doesn’t take the crap very far – it’s dumped right off the shore from the facility itself, and there are mountains of underwater Orca dung between the waterworld and Fiesta Island.
Then there’s the nighty fireworks that SeaWorld sets off over Mission Bay during the summer months. It has been proven that fireworks debris – the kind that falls into the water after the shows – harms wildlife. And just exactly how many nights do the fireworks go off?
There’s all the sound and noise pollution emanating from SeaWorld daily. The yells and screams of people on its rides certainly cannot be helpful to either SeaWorld’s own animals and the surrounding wildlife in Mission Bay. Not to mention the explosive noise from the fireworks themselves. We’re sure the endangered birds and other animals are lulled to sleep each night from the sound of bombs going off.
Indri (Indri indri) means simply “there it is” in Malagasy which is how it got its name when locals saw it. It is the only species of lemur to have no visible tail which caused the locals to believe it resembles there sacred ancestors. This has caused the locals to want to protect this sacred animal but still are threatened do to habitat destruction. They live in north eastern Madagascar and there are about 1000-10000 Indris in existence. They are endangered because of the destruction of their habitat and their low reproductive rates. Please donate to help protect the rainforests where these Indris live.
The Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) also known as the Amur tiger, is the largest is the largest living and close to largest ever felid (cat) to ever exist. Weighing about 176.4 kg (389 lb) and having a body length of 178 to 208 cm (70 to 82 in) the Siberian tiger is an endangered species with about 330-390 tigers left in the population. The population is believed to be stable due to the conservation efforts but it could also be declining. The biggest threat to the tigers are poaching by hunters in far east Russia where the tigers are found. I believe there are 12 Siberian tigers in the bottom left picture which means that is about .035% of the population, that might seem small but if those tigers were humans it would be 245,000,000 people in one picture!! 245,000,000 to 12…….. COME ON YOU GUYS WE HAVE TO HELP!!

The maximum penalty for aggravated animal cruelty in Australia is two years in jail.
Two years.
Karim Salem had an issue with someone named Jemma so he stole her pet bunny, Pancake, and videoed himself dragging the rabbit by its ears, throwing her against a brick wall, and, as she was immobilised by her injuries, he lined up his car and ran her over. He was laughing to himself when he saw Pancake try to stand to flee before the car could hit her, and continued to laugh while Pancake screamed. His maximum penalty for the abuse is two years jail time. [source]
Three young men stole Percy, the Atkinsons’ pet rabbit from her hutch in June 2014. Video footage was uploaded to Facebook of the three torturing Percy, setting her on fire and throwing her out a window. Percy had given birth 11 days earlier, leaving 5 baby bunnies without a mother and Percy’s bonded companion, Ken, becoming restless without his partner. Their maximum penalty for the disgusting abuse is two years jail time. [source]
Adell Ziegler, and an accomplice who acted as a look-out, doused a Jack Russell puppy named Phoenix in lighter fluid and set him on fire in October, 2013. He boasted about his crimes even after being imprisoned. He got two years imprisonment, one of which was for a prior charge. In essence, he was imprisoned for one year for setting Phoenix on fire. In 2012, Nigel Franks accidentally hit a kangaroo with his car. He then got out, laughed, and repeatedly kicked it in the head until it died - then tied its corpse to the back of his car. He removed the joey from its murdered mothers pouch, and upon being asked if he was going to put it out of its misery, responded “nah, it’ll only die anyway” and threw the baby over his shoulder into the bush. He dragged the kangaroo’s dead body behind his car through central Wodonga. For all of this, Franks punishment was a six-month cancellation of his driver’s license, a $750 dollar fine and a 12 months of community service. No jail time. [source]
“Judgments such as a $400 fine for killing a dog with an axe or a suspended sentence of 3 months for beating and kicking a dog before hurling it into oncoming traffic makes one wonder how “bad” an offence has to be before more Magistrates enforce their powers.”
Support tougher sentences for animal cruelty.
I'm Meagan and I'm big on animal rights. I have a problem. My boyfriend really wants to get a kitten (not a cat, a kitten). The problem is he wants to keep it in his small college dorm room (cats are not allowed in the dorms) where he and his roommate always keep it messy and not to mention are growing weed and shrooms. It's over all an awful place to raise a cat. I have tried to talk him out of it but so far him and his roommate are still very serious about getting a kitten.
Hi Meagan -- has anything happened with your boyfriend and the cat issue?
Hey there! I'm trying to have a complete conversation about bees and animal rights. Do you have any resources (with citations) that I might peek at to build my case?
Hi dear -- do you mean resources as in scholarly literature? I can certainly help you find some if need be.
