The Scenes: Skye and Ward’s conversation in the cell & The “Jemma wasn’t there” reveal

Justyna Kubica: It’s so good to have the show back. In its great season premiere there were quite a few moments I could mention but nothing as powerful as the truth about Fitz’ state of mind. Iain De Caestecker was absolutely brilliant in the entire episode, portraying Leo’s struggles with his brain damage that still hasn’t disappeared months later. And Jemma being only a hallucination, not his best friend staying beside him after his near-death experience was such a sad surprise. I truly hope she had a great reason to leave because last season the two became very much the heart of the show and I’d hate to see their bond destroyed like that. Poor Fitz. There’s so much of him missing right now. Hopefully we’ll see more of the team support for him and Jemma’s return soon.

Jamie Coudeville: Jemma was never there. When we found out that Fitz had been hallucinating Jemma the entire episode, I felt like someone ripped my heart out. And it left me with so many questions. Iain’s performance was amazing this week.
