Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter in Les Misérables.
this blog exists, bye bye ovaries
Thanks, man.
The pieces are all falling into place, though we are now on a slightly later schedule - filming is now scheduled to start in the Spring, with Sacha Baron Cohen playing Freddie. The film should be ready for release early in 2014.
Brian May
A Freddie Mercury biopic will be released in early 2014 and Sacha Baron Cohen is still in line to play the late singer, Queen guitarist Brian May has confirmed.
Brian May confirmed filming for the motion picture - which will tell the story of the late Queen singer's formative years leading up to the group's 1985 Live Aid gig - will begin in the spring following a number of setbacks, with 'Borat' star Sacha Baron Cohen still in line to portray the legendary singer in the movie.
In a post on his official website, Brian wrote: 'I promised news of yesterday's Queen band meeting. Well, it was just Roger (Taylor) and Jim Beach and myself ... we are a small cottage industry !! Our main agenda was the Freddie film ... which, I'm happy to tell you, is on course. Much of our discussion was about contractual things ... it's pretty complex .... and determining who is responsible for what.

Sacha on set of “The Dictator” 2011 (New York and Spain)
The Miami Heat crushed the Indiana Pacers last night in game 5 of their series, allowing for a good deal of celebration from the Miami players.
Those watching closely could see LeBron James and Dwyane Wade repeatedly flash a finger in the air, and according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the gesture was a reference to Admiral General Aladeen, the character actor Sacha Baron Cohen plays in the recent film "The Dictator".
When the Heat cancelled Friday practice after an embarrassing loss in game 3, James took a break by seeing the film in Indiana, according to Sports Illustrated. Apparently, James and his crew were impressed, because they were throwing up the finger all night.
i love sacha :') lovely blog.
Thank you so much! We love him as well :)
Premiere “Hugo” 2011
To single out a particular group and say we can’t make a joke about them is almost a form of prejudice and it’s kind of patronizing.
Sacha Baron Cohen
To be honest, it’s going a little slow at the moment. We can’t quite get the script right, I’ll be honest with you. So that’s moving very slowly. It seems like making movies is like stirring cement – you just gotta keep stirring.

oh sacha, you so fine and suave and smart. it’s a good interview - as himself!
Sacha Baron Cohen makes a splash at the London premier of his latest film The Dictator.
It has been announced that comedic actor, Sacha Baron Cohen will star as Freddie Mercury in an upcoming biopic. The film has been in the works for quite some time, according to Collider.com. There have been several biographies written about Mercury and his time in Queen, but this will be one of the first film biopics specifically about Mercury.
Stephen Frears (The Queen, High Fidelity) is the frontrunner to direct the project, according to Variety.com, although negotiations have not yet begun.
Collider also reported that Cohen may actually be singing Queen songs in the film. He did his own singing for his part in Tim Burton’s 2007 musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
The plot of the biopic will follow Queen’s formation up through their appearance at Live Aid in 1985. Mercury’s battle with AIDS and death in 1991 will not be featured in the film.
"The Dictator" is funny, in addition to being obscene, disgusting, scatological, vulgar, crude and so on. Having seen Sacha Baron Cohen promoting it on countless talk shows, I feared the movie would feel like deja vu. But no. He establishes a claim to be the best comic filmmaker now working. And in a speech about dictatorships, he practices merciless political satire.
Roger Ebert, in his review of The Dictator.
I saw Isla Fisher and I said hi, and she said these words, and then it dawned on me. She said, 'I apologise for my husband.' And I said, 'Oh, yes, yes, gotcha, thank you, thank you very much for saying that'... I didn't realise her husband, The Dictator, Sacha Baron Cohen, was doing a walk-on cameo (on SNL). He comes off stage, comes over to me, breaks character and says sorry about the Oscars, it wasn't personal. (He was) very very apologetic and genuine and kind and sweet. He started telling me how it went down. Originally he said that they were going to spill whatever it was in that urn on George Clooney. Someone decided that wasn't a great idea because he was up for a lot of nominations, it was a big night that night. Then they somehow spun the wheel of tragedy and landed on my name.
