Sam Cooke recording at RCA Studios, 1959
Mmm love some Sam Cooke
Not many songs have the ability to make me feel the way that this song makes me feel which is this really weird mix between ecstatic and sad and amazed all at once and I think that’s pretty neat
Happy Birthday, Sam Cooke | January 22, 1931 – December 11, 1964
Sam Cooke had twenty-nine Top 40 hits in the U.S. between 1957 and 1964. Major hits like “You Send Me”, “A Change Is Gonna Come”, “Cupid”, “Chain Gang”, “Wonderful World”, and “Twistin’ the Night Away” are some of his most popular songs. In 1999, Cooke was honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked him #16 on their list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time”, and the fourth “Greatest Singer of All Time” in 2008.
Cooke was also among the first modern black performers and composers to attend to the business side of his musical career. He founded both a record label and a publishing company as an extension of his career as a singer and composer. He also took an active part in the American Civil Rights Movement - Peter Guralnick | the Man Who Invented Soul
