nirei next chapter trying to keep the entire class in check on their impromptu road trip
i dont WANT pride months to be over,
on the other hand...
"I'm okay now."
[From chapters 147 & 221]
I think MarriageToxin fans are failing to consider that Kinosaki is both genders. They're both. She literally says she's both. He's comfortable as both. "Block me if you think Kinosaki's a man/woman-" My siblings in queer, can we not die on a hill that's already been conquered? They're both.
And that's not even getting into the fact that you can't try to slap USAmerican queer culture on a Japanese queer character. Japanese gender identity is its own thing. They've got their own culture going on there. There are certainly points of intersection, but a Japanese person isn't going to express their gender in the same way as a USAmerican, trans or otherwise.
And this isn't me saying you can't headcanon as you want, and I understand the desire to see yourself reflected specifically in a genre where you don't often see it, but please just be sure to acknowledge the things above, and don't harass someone for utilizing the canonical text as it is presented.
valuing them as individuals and friends not just potential romantic partners, making a point of acknowledging their achievements, prioritising their wants and needs beyond his own goals.... forget poison it's Respect Women Juice that gero's dosed up on
an inescapable stereotype i fear
I'm really impressed by how Mei Kinosaki—a queer, female-presenting man—is treated as one of the main characters of Marriagetoxin. He's portrayed over and over as a paragon of sex appeal, of desire, of feminine charm, of what many shonen viewers expect a female romantic lead to look, act, and sound like. He is shown as irresistible to both sexes, and in the openings and ending sequences, he's sexualized, romanticized, and adored for his personality in equal measure. His cross-dressing isn't used for cheap comic relief jokes (outside of the initial reveal). Instead, our main character doesn't question Kinosaki's choice to present as a woman, and just fucking rolls with it.
And this is a shonen anime. A harem shonen anime. They not only made one of their two main characters unabashedly queer, but the series depicts him as the exact person we're meant to see as Gero's romance interest. We are meant to view him as the ideal partner, the beautiful, alluring, kind, good person who we want our protagonist to end up with in the end.
To put it simply, we, the audience, are meant to love him. And I can't emphasize enough how fucking refreshing that is.
this is the kind of greed they talk about in the bible
it was you. it was you. it was you.
i think i've said something like this in the past, about how nii sensei's storytelling choices themselves contribute to the overall story being told to us.
for example, the series' constant emphasis on the fact that fighting = communication, sets up the suo-nirei fight to be the most honest suo has ever been except we all know it was actually his biggest lie. so on and so forth.
i'm now thinking about how, multiple months into suo's character arc, we are yet to see much of his pov. the little we've gotten of his pov has also been entirely removed from his internal mindscape and has been moreso about introducing bkk-gai to us as a setting.
and now, there is a growing focus on sakura's pov of the situation which, for the record, has always been a bit of a thing in side character arcs—he is the series mc after all—but what's different this time is the nature of sakura's pov.
whether it be togame, anzai, kiryu, momiji, or any other character whose arc sakura has been involved in, we've always gotten his pov as an agent of change. he is invested and involved while still being removed in a sense, allowing for his pov to work independently, in a way that introduces spark and movement into a story that might otherwise feel stuck and tragic.
this time though, we get sakura's pov as the person most directly and significantly impacted by suo's arc. if anything, it's closer to the tone that his pov tends to take when we're exploring arcs that are integral to His character development instead of somebody else's—and that clearly is the intention like, for better or for worse, sakura Is meant to learn something and grow from it here. this is a main story arc as much as it is a side character arc.
which means a guy like suo, who probably never intended to be anything but ephemeral, is inseparable from sakura's own arc. where he is found stuck and tragic, so is sakura. his life cannot unfold without rippling out into sakura's and the storytelling structure is proof of it.
anyway.
group suicide when?
