falseromeo:
“ Ah-! ” The sudden yank on her arm to drag her inside nearly makes Kaoru release the poor acoustic guitar in her grip. She stumbles forward, regaining her footing after a moment and breathing out in relief. The actress looks back to Maya, giving a small smile at the questions.
She reaches over, resting her free hand on Maya’s head and petting her briefly.
“ I’m just fine. I haven’t gone much further than out of my room to reach you anyhow, ” she answers, looking back at her guitar when it’s addressed. “ Oh! I couldn’t think of much else to use for this and Tybalt has been welcomed back into my arms, so… I thought the one I received upon arrival would be fine. ”
Balloons don’t take much pressure to pop anyhow! The guitar should be fine in the end, right?
Maya dips her head slightly, not because Kaoru is placing that much pressure, but because she’s trying to hide the blush creeping over her face. She still hasn’t had a chance to properly process the feelings she started feeling after Kaoru’s birthday, but now definitely isn’t the time to process them!
「Ah, I’m glad you’re okay...」 She doesn’t want any of her friends to get hurt, but definitely not Kaoru.
But that’s enough gay panic. There’s something else that demands her attention. 「Kaoru-san! You can’t use your guitar like that! Even if it’s not the one you’re used to, you shouldn’t mistreat it like that!」 Maya huffs.
Kaoru needs something else to defend herself from the balloons. She looks to her bag... a knife?
...No, out of the question.
She looks back down at her hand, which is still holding the fork. She holds it out to Kaoru. 「Take this for now!」 She’ll find her something more useful later. Preferably not as dangerous as the knife.
perpetualquestions:
It was a lot of information! Really, under different circumstances, Curiousity would be absolutely thrilled at it all. Especially taking into account her newfound desire to learn to play the drums as Maya did; it would be awesome once she learned how.
But all that took a spot on the backburner as the little girl instead grew cross, focusing on one tiny detail Maya had let slip amongst the rest of the info.
“Who on earth would be stupid enough to get annoyed at information?!” Humans were fragile! A couple stupid morons could have been enough to break this one, and then Curiousity wouldn’t be getting all that she was right now. “Did you beat them up?”
When she first sees the young girl’s expression harden, Maya worries. She must have spoken too much, as usual. She’s used to it, being reprimanded for speaking too much. Not everyone wants to learn as much about instruments and sound equipment, it’s a pretty niche hobby.
She’s ready to apologize when the young girl finally speaks.
Maya’s stunned into silence. That’s definitely not what she thought she was going to say.
But she quickly snapped out of it. 「No! Beating people up isn’t a good thing to do, even if someone is, uh... “stupid.” A-Anyway! I get that not everyone wants to learn about something that might not be important to them! I just can’t stop talking when I get all excited about it, huhehe...」
「Uh, but seriously, don’t beat up anyone....」

AT THIS POINT, he just allows her to continue, sinking further and further into his silence until there’s a break during which he can speak. ( He’s not sure if he’s flattered or intimidated by her interest in him — or, well, his bass and the band. ) ❝ Y-Yeah. We’re still a little new, but, um, we’re called NEON ☆ ANGELS. I, um, actually — I might’ve seen you at CiRCLE a few times? ❞
NEON...
Wait a second.
「NEON ☆ ANGELS! I’ve heard of you guys!」
「I haven’t had a chance to hear your stuff yet, but everyone’s raving about your talent! I’m more of a drummer so I focus more on her, but I’ve heard nothing but good things from all of you! So you’re the bassist then... Ikari-san?」
She finally takes pause. 「Oh! Um, yeah probably... My name is Maya Yamato. I’m actually the drummer for Pastel*Palettes, huhehe...」 She rubs at the back of her neck. It comes as a surprise to people when she points it out since she looks worse different in real life.
heroicadvents:
There were times where the question popped up in her mind, about why her specifically had been brought here. She was twins with Hina, but yet she was nowhere to be seen. It was such a strange feeling to be separated this long from her, even though they weren’t always on the best of terms.
“A rental studio would be a better suggestion, but then there is the matter of being diligent on going there for practice.” It’s more likely that you are able to focus in an environment like a studio, though some may then have ideas about not going at all.
“Yamato-san, I don’t have an answer for your question. I do know that Hina isn’t here. …I don’t know how much longer we’ll all be staying here. Other people I’ve asked have had the same experience - sometimes longer.”
「I miss playing, so going regularly hopefully won’t be a problem...」 Maya knows how diligent Sayo can be about playing music and improving. Even though Pastel*Palettes is more of a music job than the rest of the bands, Maya’s sure Roselia practices way more than they do.
Granted, there’s still the matter of cost, but she’ll cross that road later.
「Ah, right, of course... This place is so strange, it’s not fair of me to assume anyone here would know everything about how it works... sorry, um...」 So Hina isn’t here...
「I’d like to return as soon as possible, but from the sound of it, it seems that time works strangely here... Wow, this sounds like something out of a novel...」 Like those “isekai” books that everyone raves about recently. 「That’s somewhat of a relief, knowing that we’re not inconveniencing anyone by suddenly disappearing. Still, let’s hope we can get back soon. I’m sure if we work together, we can find out how!」
perpetualquestions:
See, had Curiousity known the guitar was ‘cooler looking’, maybe she might have cared more. Maybe. Only, the girl had no idea of such, as nobody had ever explained to her which instruments were cool or not. That wasn’t to mention that such a person would then have to explain why they were cooler than getting to hit things freely.
Better to just not get into it.
Instead, she watched Maya play through the song with rapt attention. That humans could make noise like that was news to her. GLaDOS sung, and there were often radios about that played music, but people? That was something she had never seen before.
“How long have you been doing this for?” While certain she could learn faster, Curiousity still wanted an idea how long she should be ballparking for. Because she was gonna learn this.
Maya wipes her brow once she’s done. Even though the drums are a pretty tiring instrument to play, Maya still has a habit of putting a lot of energy into her playing. It’s just something she loves doing, she can’t help it!
「Ah, it’s been a while. Since I was pretty young.」 She gently rests her drumsticks on the snare drum. 「I was about your age, I think! I’ve always really liked sounds, especially musical ones. It’s a bit weird, but it’s one of my hobbies. I tend to, um, infodump about it a lot, if given the chance, and people sometimes find that annoying...」
Oh, she didn’t need to hear about her insecurities. Maya laughs sheepishly. 「Anyway, I know how to play a few instruments, but the drums have always been my go-to! They’re really easy to pick up, but it takes some time to truly master them. And I wouldn’t call myself a master, by any means. But that’s the great thing about learning an instrument! There’s always something you can learn or improve on! And they’re really versatile! Techniques change based on the genre you want to play, for example!」 She doesn’t even realize she’s info dumping again.

█┆Confusion ran through Fuumo’s head as he fiddled with the cellphone he had gotten, it wasn’t that he didn’t know how to use it, in fact it was quite the opposite but he was more perplexed by the currency that existed in this place. He was hungry and wanted food but this whole digital currency called dust left him confused. it didn’t help that he wasn’t familiar with digital currency, to begin with … So he was just left very perplexed. Standing aimlessly as he clicked buttons to try to see how much money he has before sighing in frustration.
█┆He looked around very quickly, spotting a girl that seemed to be around his age which made him much more comfortable as he approached, his phone still in hand.
❛ Hey, excuse me. Do you know how this whole “Dust” currency thing works … ?I can’t figure it out for the life of me ❜
Maya looks through her phone, checking her notes. There are a few restaurants in the area that she found interesting and finally had the disposable income to check out. She’s searching through her list when someone calls out to her.
...Ah, it’s another teenager. She looks down at the stranger’s phone. 「Oh, it’s like... digital money, I guess?」
She leans her phone in a way to let the stranger see her own phone. She opens her own Dust app to show what it looks like. She tilts her phone a bit. 「All you do is touch the back of your phone to the scanner, and it’ll deduct the money from your balance! It actually works a lot like Japanese Yen, if you’re used to that?」
Was this person a new arrival? Maya is willing to help out, if necessary.

@fuhehehe | pandemonium!
This is… an absolute mess.
Kaoru holds her guitar close to her body, keeping up a fast pace as she approaches Maya’s door. She only shifts her tactics when one of the balloons gets too far into her space, prodding it away with a jab from the base of her guitar.
( She doesn’t want to harm these strange feline balloons, but… she doesn’t want to become one either. )
She knocks on the door, doing her best to not strike so hard and show her nerves.
“ Maya? Are you in there? It’s Kaoru…! ”
The announcement breaks Maya out of her drumming trance. She almost missed it, in fact, too busy enjoying her new drum kit. It just happened to come in during a break. And good it did, or else Maya would be in big trouble. This is different from the clone incident. Death there was a looming threat, but it feels much closer here.
Maya needs to move. She doesn’t want to hurt those balloon things, as they seem sentient, but it may be a necessity. She begins grabbing any sharp items she can find.
A knock on the door almost startles a fork out of her hand. She cautiously approaches the door, close enough to hear the person behind it... She rushes towards the door, throws it open, and pulls Kaoru inside.
「Kaoru-san! Are you okay? You’re not hurt, right?!」 She looks Kaoru over to be sure she’s not hurt when she notices...
Her voice becomes more skeptical. 「Um, Kaoru-san? Why do you have your guitar...?」

perpetualquestions:
Blowing onto an instrument sounded boring, and she wasn’t sure how effective she could be at it even with this form. The string instruments were an option she considered, up until Maya mentioned hitting things. One couldn’t tell a child ‘hey, you’re supposed to hit this; it won’t get you in trouble’ and not expect them to immediate light up.
“That one!” This was easily one of the better humans she had found; Curiousity intended to keep her around as long as possible. Luckily, unlike the workers, she didn’t seem to be in any rush to get rid of her.
Maya hoped for that reaction. She’s used to most people wanting to get into music to default to something cool-looking, like a guitar. And yes, they were really cool! But Maya has a soft spot for the drums, and she loves to talk about them.
「Okay!」 Maya reaches into her bag and pulls out her drumsticks before taking a seat at the kit.
「This looks like you just bang it, but you need to know how to hit it to make each noise you want. So for these, the drums mounted here, you should aim for the middle. The cymbals, you need to hit at the ends. And the bass drum, down here, you push this pedal.」 As she explains, she demonstrates so the young girl can learn.
「To play the drums well, you need to understand how to keep a tempo, and how to support the rest of the band with your rhythm. But once you learn, you can do cool stuff like this!」 And to demonstrate, Maya plays one of her favorite covers her band performs.
falseromeo:
“ I wouldn’t mind at all, given the permission to come over. You’re someone I would certainly enjoy spending more of my days with, Maya, ” she responds, eyes not meeting the other’s. It’s not that the lack of eye contact makes her words any less honest, but the hint of red that pops onto her cheeks towards the end of her statement is enough to make her look away.
Kaoru clears it moments later through sheer willpower, refocusing on the preparation for cake before settling the box in her lap. Her eyes sparkle upon opening it, amazement clear in her expression. The surprise is obvious with the way her jaw drops, hand stroking the petals as gently as she can.
There’s a light laugh at Maya’s words, Kaoru moving and leaning against her a bit. To always remain beautiful… high expectations, but they are ones she set upon her own shoulders some time back. Fingers gently trail down the stem before closing the box, removing her head from Maya’s shoulder to set it down in a safer spot than her lap.
“ … It’s perfect. I think you captured my essence within my favorite flower incredibly well. I can’t thank you enough. ”
Maya wants to look at Kaoru, to see her reaction, but she can’t. She’s worried that she won’t like it, that the thought she put into her present, that drove her to work so hard that she missed her deadline, was too shallow and would ultimately be for naught. Instead, she stares at the rose in anticipation, watching slender fingers run along it.
She hears a laugh and relaxes for just a moment. But then a weight lands on her shoulder, and the laughs are closer to her ear and—
Spending time with Kaoru has always been something that brings Maya great joy. Who wouldn’t want to hang out with Kaoru? She’s cool, beautiful, energetic, and extremely kind, all of which were qualities that Maya admired. Even if it was just for theater club at the beginning, she enjoyed talking with Kaoru and deciphering her roundabout words.
She’s still happy, she’s definitely happy to be around her, but she’s also nervous. Her entire body is frozen, gaze torn from anywhere near Kaoru, instead focusing on the empty plate in front of Maya. Her heart is racing, even after Kaoru lifts her head. This never happened back home. This almost feels like... no, there’s no way. She doesn’t have a crush on Kaoru.
...does she?
「I’m... I’m glad! Um... let me just...」 She leans forward and begins cutting the cake, serving them each a piece. 「Um, maybe we can... watch something? While we eat, I mean.」
Maybe it’ll distract her from these ridiculous thoughts.
leektune:
LIPS SLIGHTLY PARTED, hands clasped together, eyes glimmering with excitement—simply put, she is awestruck at the moment. a failed attempt to make a purchase and the subsequent realization that she needs money to get by in this world has led her on a job hunt. that, in turn, has brought her to the theater company today.
“amazing… !”
gushing outright at the sound equipment present, she doesn’t bother to keep her voice down. despite not quite knowing the names or uses of each individual piece, she recognizes the look and feel from her own performances back home; finally, she’s found familiar territory. miku turns to the girl who appears to be at work here ( setting up for a performance tonight, maybe? ) and waves in her direction. “hello! this… this is all really amazing!” she could live here, probably.
@fuhehehe
Working for the Spirale Theater Company has been nothing short of a dream. Much like in the theater club, Maya has full reign on how to bring the director’s vision to light (mostly literally). But unlike the theater club, the budget is large. And the equipment is state-of-the-art. Most of her first day was spent playing and drooling over the fancy equalizer.
Now she’s calmed down, though. Today, she’s focused on checking the cables around the theater to troubleshoot some sound problems. As she approaches the soundboard, she notices the girl fawning over the setup. She’s... kind of familiar... has she seen her before?
Maya may have put more thought into it if not for the opportunity to gush about the equipment yet again. 「Huhehe, it is, isn’t it!? It’s one of the best soundboards on the market right now, perfect for such a large production! And that’s only the beginning! The compressors, the amps, the speakers, everything is so professional! I’m in heaven right now! Are you interested in sound equipment, miss?」
perpetualquestions:
That was a lot of information. Far more than what Curiousity was used to having given to her from so few questions; Logic was really the only one to go as above and beyond in this city, at least so far. Even if a lot of it didn’t have… much use…..
Wait, did she just say it would help her learn?
What was that word again? She’d heard it before. Something to do with manners? This girl was a clear and easy source of information, and was willing to help her learn; Curiousity could try being polite for a bit.
“Yes! Um… what’s that p-word again? For manners?” Try as it might, it wasn’t coming to mind. Heck if she ever used it before.
Maya hesitates for a moment, worried that she’s overloaded the young girl with too much information. She does that quite often. While she’s been lucky to make friends who don’t mind or find it endearing, that hasn’t always been the case.
「P word? Hmm...」
「Ah, do you mean “please?”」 That’s a word that starts with P and is good manners!
She smiles, gently pulling the girl by the hand around the store. She seems interested in learning how to play! Maya is ready to help her foster that interest! She starts gesturing towards the instruments.
「So, there are a lot of different instruments you can play! Wind and brass instruments use your mouth to blow in different ways! There are string instruments, where you pluck the strings to make different sounds. And then there are percussion instruments, which you hit, either with your hands or with a stick!」 She stops in front of a drum kit. 「This the one I usually play! Do any of these interest you?」 She can play some of them to an extent, but the drums are definitely her strongest instrument.
perpetualquestions:
What was that emotion that just crossed Maya’s face? Curiousity didn’t recognize it. But her questions had been answered, fair trade meant she was willing to answer a few in return. It wasn’t necessary, but people tended to be more cooperative and take longer to stop answering her when she did.
“I don’t think I need help? And I don’t know if I want to learn a new instrument. What does that mean? Is it something a lot of people do?”
Oh! A trick she had learned! Curiousity made to take the other girl’s hand, holding it comfortably. For whatever reason it seemed to make some of the other people put up with her longer. Maybe they couldn’t break away? Humans were weird.
She doesn’t want to learn anything? Then why is she here? And why is she asking the employees so many questions?
「Ah, I guess so?」 Maya should probably start from the beginning, since the girl didn’t seem to know what was going on. 「Learning an instrument means using one of these instruments to play music. It’s something you have to learn how to do and practice a lot to get good at. It’s really helpful, learning how to play! It’s a great stress reliever and it’s a really cool hobby to have! Some people say it helps young kids like you with learning other things as well, plus it has a lot more benefits!」
Maya smiles at her when she grabs onto her hand. 「Uh, I can show you what it’s like. Playing an instrument, I mean.」
falseromeo:
Kaoru looks contemplative for a moment, dodging Maya’s eyes for several seconds as she mulls over her questions and suggestion. “ … I would not mind having company while I am here, no. I tend to spend most of my time away from this apartment given the opportunity due to how quiet it is. ”
It’s an odd confession on her tongue and she almost looks visibly uncomfortable speaking it. Her off expression vanishes fast enough, replaced with a smile. Worrying about something like that wouldn’t do for the mood of the day; Kaoru is far from alone right now.
Her eyes shine when the cake is revealed, lip twitching as if trying to refrain from breaking into a wide grin. Despite that, the smile on her face is warm and she reaches for Maya’s hands, gently holding onto them. “ Thank you, Maya. I feel like I haven’t had strawberry cake in some time… I’m certain I and my taste buds will wholeheartedly appreciate this. ”
Luckily (or unluckily, depending on who you ask), Maya isn’t looking at Kaoru when she makes that admission, as she’s too embarrassed from making the suggestion in the first place. She makes a mental note to come often and to be sure to message Kaoru before she does, so she’s prepared. 「You can also come over to my place, if you don’t mind others around...」
The safe option seemed to be the best one, since Kaoru seems honestly pleased with it! Maya takes out two paper plates and forks for them to eat with. But she doesn’t serve it just yet. Not when there’s one more box to give.
She hands Kaoru the long box. She waits until she sees the contents before talking.
「Um! It’s a rose! But they say that it will stay looking like that forever, no matter what! And... it reminded me of you. Like, no matter what happens to you, you’re just as beautiful as always! And I think it fits your prince look a lot! I...」 She pauses, rubbing at the back of her neck awkwardly. 「M-Maybe I’m stereotyping you too much...」
perpetualquestions:
One of the many joys of this city was the endless shops. Not for their intended purpose; no, Curiousity didn’t have the money to spend on everything she wanted. Instead, there was a different benefit. Customer service. That was, every single shop had employees being paid to try and tolerate her endless questions. When one of them hit their breaking point or grew boring, it was onto the next.
This was how she had been carrying on for the better part of the afternoon, and it was a music store she found herself in now. The employees were trying to ask about her parents? Pssh, that was a human thing. Besides, they’d stopped answering her, so why should she answer back?
Only… this was the last shop in this strip. Where did she go next? Who did she bother? Looking around, bright orange optics landed on an older looking girl peeking out at her. Somebody new!
“Hi! Who are you? Do you work here?”
Oh, it’s a young girl. A very curious young girl.
Maya looks over at the workers, who seem to sigh in relief that they don’t have to deal with the girl anymore. She gave them a look of pity. She could probably help with this, seeing as they help her so often and let her play the instruments, no questions asked.
「Uh, I don’t work here. My name is Maya, and I’m...」 ...an idol? 「...a musician, and sound enthusiast, I guess? Do you need some help? Maybe you’re interested in learning a new instrument?」
