i think it's hilarious that bruce's first instinct upon facing any issues in his parenting is "no more robin. effective immediately" like bro... you can't just go "you're not robin anymore" and expect them to REACT WELL????
bruce: gives his kid, who doesn't even know how to add fractions, a sense of importance stronger than most adults will ever have
robin: has anything bad happen to him, or experiences any negative emotions
bruce: hrm. i suppose i will take it all away now. because i love him.
robin: freaks the hell out and takes it extremely badly
bruce: hm. that went very well. i will make sure to employ this tactic with the next child.
I bet that he's the type of parent who says "I did this to your older brother and he's fine" camera zooms on Dick with eye bags and seven different trust issues.
I was gonna leave this in the tags but it went on a bit so in the post proper it goes this is why Good Wholesome Dad Bruce is another aspect of the watered down Disneyfied fandom that plagues every crevice of these decrepit digital halls of tumblr dot com and it gets me so mad. That man is NOT a well adjusted individual. Over the decades the various cast of writers have given you several clues to this, namely the HORRIFYING BAT ARMOUR and the LESSONS IN FEAR FOR THE CRIMINAL ELEMENT. Sure he's got a caring heart and good intentions but he's terrible at putting intent into practice because - big shocker I know - he hasn't HAD ANY PRACTICE. And no he hasn't gotten good at it in the time since. Even in the days of Stephanie Robin he was famously an asshole. He does try, god he tries and I love him for it, but LORD.
Bruce Wayne is at his peak when he's simultaneously an easy man to trust (because he's been right by your side in the harsh proving grounds of combat since you were 10 and always made sure you were physically healthy and for a crowd that loves to write based on tropes instead of story, they seem to forget that Bruce and his Robins would have something more like a Warrior's Bond instead of anything even resembling a parent/child relationship) and a hard man to love (because he has NO fucking clue how to parent).
The child soldier take also pisses me off cause that's wildly out of character, Bruce NEVER viewed them as soldiers, he found an outlet for his trauma and assumed it would be a one size fits all solution without realising it doesn't work like that. He did what he thought would help best but "best" wasn't very good. This is also why the whole "VENGEAAANNNCCCEEE" shtick was abandoned by like. Year fourish era/post Jason maybe and replaced with the much healthier mindset of "I fight for Gotham and her people" BUT HE DID STILL VERY MUCH TAKE 10 YEAR OLDS INTO BATTLE AND TEACH THEM HOW TO SHATTER BONES AND USE EXPLOSIVES AND SUCH.
To paraphrase Rosamund Pike in The World's End, "the whole smoke grenades and guerilla warfare thing, it's kinda cool when you're 15 but not when you're facing 30".

YALL LOOK WHAT I MADE. I RECREATED THE MEME AND I CANT STOP LAUGHING 😭😭
reference below:
happy deathday, Jason Todd
And few years later Batman is surprised when Jason becomes Red Hood. You gave him his first turret machinegun, Bruce! It's irresponsible parenting or something!
Jason K. Powell from New Glasgow real as fuck for this
A heroic paladin warrior who swore an oath never to take any life unless in desperate situations, and thus only fights with blunt weapons as opposed to cutting, slicing or piercing ones.
He is completely oblivious that the enemies he fights with blunt weapons slowly and painfully die of internal injuries hours later.
Hear me out
Batman
Shoutout to characters that are both genuinely deeply kind and also genuinely terrifying and willing to spill buckets worth of blood to get something done. And neither of these are an act, they're just both very true.
girl i don’t know how to say this. that’s not a found family that’s a platoon of child soldiers.
stupid failure batman
this story got me breaking out a notebook god damn
New Jersey Psycho
another samnee redraw! happy late b-day Jason enjoy getting beat up by your girlfriend ☺️
dramatic mf
I can't get over how delightfully competent Jason is and how funny it makes his early Red Hood days. This 18 year old who literally died once is so good at being a criminal that criminals on the other side of the country that have been doing this for years feel threatened by his gun smuggling operation. What an icon
Both Dick and Jason should be more skilled than Bruce and be able to win a fight against him. I will die on this hill
Dick canonicly won against Bruce several times already and most writers do say that Nightwing is surpassed Batman, at this point. It's mostly Batman glazers who have the most problem with accepting that fact
Jason had a clear upper hand over Bruce in Under the Red Hood when he first returned to Gotham and his training surpassed Bruce's training, with Jason winning against the best of the world as well as some former Bruce's teachers. It's only later on when writers started nerfing Jason hard to glaze Batman (and because DC don't like Jason, lets be honest here)
I can't tell who should realisticly win their fight against eachother but they definitly should be better than their father
