Not all fundie snarkers are created equal. In fact, most of us are quite different and have different reasons for following and discussing famous fundies/fundie lites.
Here are the different levels of Fundie Snarker, from my POV.
LEVEL ZERO: Genuine Fan. This person often shows up in these communities and is Big Mad by the criticism and snark. Sometimes they show up to white knight for their beloved Fundie Senpai; other times, they simply confuse us for fellow fans.
LEVEL ONE: Light Critic. This person is a fan who concedes that fundie lifestyles have a lot of things worth criticizing. They’re turned off by most snark and often get called “leg-humpers.”
LEVEL TWO: Closet Fan. This person has a “love/hate” relationship with famous fundies. They engage with snarking and criticism, but at the same time… they have a soft spot for certain fundies and can’t help but enjoy them. But they’d never admit it to anyone.
LEVEL THREE: Point-and-Laugher. This person hate-watches/hate-follows famous fundies because they get pleasure out of laughing at them. They don’t really take the heavy criticism of fundie culture too seriously; they’re just there for the delicious cringe.
LEVEL FOUR: Commentator. This person follows famous fundies because they are fascinated by fundie culture and its effect on individuals and society. They typically have a more objective point of view; they will snark at times, but they’re more interested in having a conversation.
LEVEL FIVE: Activist. This person is involved in this community to push back against fundie political causes, such as anti-feminism, purity culture, and anti-LGBT initatives. They are here to commiserate, raise awareness, and fight back. Sometimes they are personally affected by fundie causes (but not always).
LEVEL SIX: Hater. This person actually hates these fundies. The extent at which they take their hatred can vary; however, in most cases, they follow the fundies simply to heckle them. They may even slide into their DMs to pop off. They get blocked by famous fundies a lot and are proud of this.
Personally, I consider myself to float between Level Three and Level Four, depending on my mood. Occassionally I will delve into Level Five, but I get worn down by politics very quickly so I don’t stay in that level very long.
