Since the new owl house episode is on Saturday, I feel like I should share my prediction on what Luz’s new palisman is going to be, considering the last episode kinda left off with Luz being given the chance to finally carve her palisman. So what do I think her new palisman is going to be? My answer is: a bat. And I’ll explain why, because it seems like we’ve been getting a lot of foreshadowing that seemingly leads to this theory. I’m sure there’s a lot more foreshadowing that I’m missing, but for right now I’m only going to point out 3 things in the show that might lead to this theory being correct. So grab some snack and get comfy, because we’re gonna be here for a while. Let’s begin.
If some of you haven’t noticed, Luz’s phone case is a bat. This is shown in the very early episodes of season one, as she is seen having it on hand multiple times throughout the show. I find it very interesting that Luz’s phone case is a bat, because it shows that she deliberately chose a bat themed phone case for her phone. This shows that Luz has an interest in bats. Don’t believe me? Let’s move onto to point number 2 then.
In the episode, “Eclipse Lake” it is shown that Amity and Luz have a special way of communicating with each other. Earlier in this episode, it is revealed that Amity has a cat palisman named “Ghost” who is an all white cat. And here, we can see that an all white cat is featured as Amity’s avatar, and we know this because it’s a reference to her palisman but also because she’s not the one texting Luz. Luz is texting Amity. So this implies that Luz again deliberately chose a bat as her avatar while texting Amity.
Now I feel I should also mention this art that the creator posted on Twitter a while ago, because it’s very interesting that she drew Luz in a bat costume instead of the typical skeleton, zombie, or witch outfit. I feel like this could be foreshadowing that Luz has more of a connection to bats than what we previously thought. While yes she loves otters, it isn’t mentioned in the show was much as bats are.
Now that I’ve discussed my main points, I figured it’s time to explain why I think Luz’s palisman is going to be a bat. When we see Eda’s family, we notice that each of them appear to have a bird palisman. Eda with an owl, Lilith with a raven(?), Gwendolyn with a hawk, and Eda’s father with a yellow cardinal. And in the more recent season, we see that Eda sees Luz and King as her family, as she has referred to them as “her kids” multiple times throughout season two. Even Luz, who already has a mom, seems to see Eda, King, and Lilith as her found family, as she calls Lilith “cool aunt Lilith” and allows King to call her “his sister” as well. So it seems that Luz sees herself as both a Noceda and a Clawthorne. Now how does this relate to Luz’s palisman? Well, a bat is a creature that, upon first glance, looks like a hybrid between a bird and a rodent. And most people often misjudge bats, and see them as terrifying creatures that roam the night skies. See what I’m getting at? Just like a bat being compared to a rodent and a bird, Luz isn’t a Noceda or a Clawthorne. She’s a combination of the two, and has been misjudged and viewed as “weird” many times before. So it seems like Luz has a connection to bats because, in a way, she seems to relate to them, and I think that’s why there’s so many hints in the show that prove that. So, that concludes my theory for today. Even if Luz’s palisman isn’t a bat, it’s nice to point out how Luz has more of a hidden connection to bats. Symbolically and literally, I mean. Either way, I’m excited to see the next episode on Saturday!
