People with type 1 diabetes who don’t want to be lumped in with type 2 diabetes are participating in fatphobia.
You want type 1 to be a separate category from type 2 because you don’t want to be subjected to the scorn, stigma, and discrimination that people with type 2 diabetes experience.
B/c of the stigma that people with type 2 diabetes deserve to be sick– deserve to be punished.
That’s fatphobia.
You know what? This is fucking stupid. I was diagnosed type 2 because the doctor didn’t even think to test me for type 1. I was given oral medicine and told to manage my diet. And for a large amount of T2 diabetics that’s all they’ll have to do. It’s not fun and the medicines can be harsh and there are serious problems that arise from T2. It’s important to know that. Anyways I started to die, literally. I was throwing up, I was in pain I couldn’t see, I passed out. The doctor was like oh shit and tested me for T1 and behold I had it. IMMEDIATLY I had to start insulin, I had to check my glucose, they explained to me how dangerous this is. I don’t want to be grouped in with T2 diabetics because I’m not one. Not because of the stigma, I’m a fat person. The thing is that in the majority of cases it’s much harder to live with T1. You don’t group all cancers together, and you don’t cry foul when people get irritated that you grouped them in with other cancer patients. Also let’s not forget this tiny thing. Obesity is proven to increase chances of insulin resistance. Is it the only cause or risk factor? Of course not. But it is one. So ok2befat. Called me fatist or whatever, but I don’t care. I experience the same societal disdain, only I’m also stabbing myself 5 times daily. Let me make this perfectly clear however. Being overweight is OK. You shouldn’t be shamed for it. Being obese is unhealthy but you shouldn’t be shamed for it. T2 has many causes but it’s never a person’s fault. Unless someone is hurting another person or animal or something like that, don’t shame them. That being said, wanting to have my illness separated from another one is by no means shaming someone.
GUYS! I'm finally going to make the Type 1 Diabetic Tumblr List
I finally have a week off from uni (yaayyy) and some free time, and I’m going to set up the Type 1 Diabetic Tumblr List to attach to my blog, because having other dia-badasses to talk and connect with can make life with type 1 that little bit easier
So, if all the Type 1 Diabetics of Tumblr could reblog this and spread the word, I’ll set it up this week.
Me!!! :)
Happy 4th of July America, Land of the Free!!**
**free healthcare not included
I don’t care for horror films.
If I want to be scared I’ll just look at my medical bills.

Is it possible to phone in sick for a doctor’s appointment?
Actually it is lol, I’ve done that a thousand times
Feels a bit awkward every time though. Every time.
