How I gave my furbys scents!
Through the power of sheer curiosity I have managed to give two of my furbys signature scents! Papaya smells like oranges and Charlie smells like peppermint. Keep reading to find out how to do this yourself!
For this project, you will need:
•felt (or similar fabric)
•scissors
•a mug
•probably a spoon
•something to cover the mug
•hot water
•scent of your choice (preferably in a high concentration to make the scent as strong as possible)
•a furby!
CAUTION: this project needs very hot water. If you cannot/do not want to handle hot water, please ask someone to help you! I don’t want you getting hurt.
1. Prepare the fabric
[image description: a yellow rectangle of felt rests on a piece of notebook paper. it is roughly 3 inches (horizontally) by 2 inches (vertically)]
First things first- I took my felt and measured out a 2”x3” rectangle. This is around the size of a furby baby’s belly patch, which is where the scent was going to be. Later on I actually cut the piece in half vertically because I found that the piece was too large to place in the belly, and instead I placed one half in the front of Papya and the other in his back.
2. Prepare your scent mixture
[image 1 description: a right hand holds a package containing a small vial of fragrance oil with oranges on the white label. the packaging is light purple and reads “hello lovely fragrance orange”]
[image 2 description: a coffee machine can be seen sitting on a granite countertop with a blue mug sitting underneath, ready to be filled. in front of the coffee machine are three items; (in this order) the aforementioned fragrance oil, the yellow felt rectangle, and a blue silicone lid.]
For this part I used a coffee machine to fill up my mug with hot water. Then I dropped in about 7 drops of the fragrance. Then I stirred the water for about 30 seconds with a spoon.
3. Soak the fabric
[image description: the rectangle of yellow felt is completely submerged in the mug of hot water. drops of oil can be seen on the surface of the water.]
This part is really simple. Just submerge the fabric into the mixture and place a lid on top. The lid will help keep the water hot. I let the fabric soak for just about 1 hour.
NOTE: the scent did not turn out as strong as I hoped. If you would like your scent to be very strong, I would suggest either putting in more drops of the fragrance or letting it soak for longer (or both).
4. Rinse the fabric
I didn’t even take a picture of this part because I was lazy. But all you have to do is rinse out the fabric and let it dry.
5. Put the fabric under your furby’s fur
[image description: a sunny yellow furby baby with a blue beak is shown. it’s fur is being pulled up by a hand, and the faceplate has been pulled away from the face.]
As I said earlier, I cut the felt in half before putting it in. All you need to do is pull up your furby’s fur and slide the fabric under. You should be able to smell your scent through their fur. If you can’t, I would suggest doing another round of soaking with the fabric.
And there you have it!
I hope this worked for you if you tried it, and I hope you all found this helpful!

Furby Hood Tutorial
Couple notes: This tutorial is just for the hood part of a jacket! The jacket I made using this tutorial by @furbmiester9000, which is adaptable for all furbys! Also, this tutorial is not for a plain hoodie. This if for a collared jacket that has a hood attached to it.
The only major change I made to the jacket was adding a spot for a tail, which ended up coming to about 2 inches tall and 1.5 inches wide, though you’ll want to cut your hole smaller than that for seam allowance. I also curved the bottoms of the ends(blue arrows) so that it fit better over my furbys feet.
To get started on the hood, measure the length of your jacket, then put it on your furby and measure how high you want the hood to go from the fold of the collar. If you want to be able to take the hood off and have it sit comfortably around your furbys neck then make the height half of the length (e.g. my jacket came to about 12.5 inches so the height would be 6.25 inches). Otherwise it’ll be kinda tight.
The hood is made up of two parts so halve your jacket length then draw out your hood shape on your fabric. I went with a square/rectangle shape with gave me a pointed looking hood. If you want a regular looking hood curve it. Look up different hood shapes and get creative!
Cut out two of those hood shapes, or four if you want your hood to have an inner lining. Remember to include seam allowance!
If you went with two pieces, sew the backside of the hood together.
If you went with four: Take two pieces, sew all but the backside together, then flip it inside out. Repeat with the other two pieces, then sew those two finished pieces together along the backside.
If you aren’t making an inner lining for your hood, then you want to clean up the edges by either folding them in or using bias tape. You only have to do this for the 2 edges that are going to be visible around your furby’s head and it’s up to you whether you want the fold on the outside or inside of the hood.
Next, mark the fold of the collar on your jacket. Then sew the bottom of the hood just below that line. Make sure you’re sewing the hood on the right way! The inside of the hood should be facing the same direction as the inside of the jacket.
Now you just have to sew the top of hood. Unless you went with a curved hood, in which case all you have to do now is make some ear holes!
For the ear holes, I just put the jacket on, found where the tips of the ears are, snipped a small hole, and then went from there. I recommend making very little cuts and checking after every cut that the fit is good. You don’t want your holes too big or in the wrong spots.
As for finishing the hems on the ear holes… I actually didn’t bother to finish mine lmao. If you’re worried about fraying or if you just want that professional finished look, you can fold them in and sew them up or you can use glue. It’s up to you!
And that’s it, your hood should be done! Hopefully this made enough sense and as always my ask box is open if you have any questions!
Howdy Folks! So your local dummy non-binary artist didn't realize a loan payment was coming out today and now I'm $21 short on my rent check! I need the money asap if you can't commission me please spread the word! Thank you!!
