Regarding the recent criminal case involving GAINAX Co. Representative and suspect Tomohiro Maki, with reports referencing our works Neon Genesis Evangelion and the Evangelion series as a whole.
The suspect was not involved with the Evangelion series, including the making of Neon Genesis Evangelion. The Company has nothing to do with the suspect. Moreover, the Company's representative director, Hideaki Anno, director of Evangelion, and the Company director, Kazuya Tsurumaki, who served as the deputy director of Evangelion, are all informed as to the case and have no involvement with the suspect. Furthermore, the Company, Hideaki Anno, and Kazuya Tsurumaki do not have any business relationship with GAINAX Co., or any corporations with similar titles for video production. GAINAX does not have rights to the Evangelion series, including Neon Genesis Evangelion.
As announced in December 2016, the Company is still seeking a return of the loan from GAINAX Co. This case is still pending.
As mentioned above, the suspect is completely unrelated to Neon Genesis Evangelion and the Evangelion series, but nevertheless, some reports are mentioning Neon Genesis Evangelion and the Evangelion series. This is very regrettable and we strongly protest such references. For those concerned, please refrain from similar reports in the future. If such events persist, the Company will consider legal measures to cease the violation of the Company’s brand value and its works, and infringement of the honor of all creators engaged in the production of our works. We would like to inform you in advance about what we plan to do.
The production and screening of “Shin Evangelion Theatrical Version” is scheduled to be released in June 2020. The screening will not be affected by this incident. Lastly, we would like to praise the victims and we wish that they recover from this damage as soon as possible.
