Happy New Year, folks! Wishing you all the best! We’re starting things off with a bang in Plett tomorrow with #GetLuckySummer alongside Goodluck! If you haven’t yet, be sure to book your tickets now: http://bit.ly/GetLuckyTickets
We are so super duper stoked to have worked with Red Bull Studios in Cape Town for two of our newest tracks: Undefeated and Just Act Normal. Both are a result of the struggle against the system, with our groove master Ruby Crowie coming up with the initial idea of Undefeated after watching Miners Shot Down last year. This is the final product after months of honing it! Just Act Normal was our bassist Ryan McArthur’s initial concept - he even wrote the lyrics, all about conformity and how that’s exactly what we do (not)! Enjoy, let us know what you think about our #FutureAfro sounds!
Find us on Twitter, Facebook, SoundCloud, YouTube and, of course, here.
AHHHHH!!!!! We’re so stoked to be performing at Synergy Live again! We love this festival, and clearly they love us, too! If you’re attending, be sure to catch our set on the Main Stage at 2pm on Saturday, 28 November. For more details, visit the website.
We’re kicking off the weekly Jam Session a The Great Wizoo in Rondebosch tomorrow evening. Pull through and bring your instruments if you want to join the fun after!
ICYMI: we covered Little Dragon’s awesome song, Place to Belong and gave it an African flavour! Thanks to Popsicle TV for helping us make our message
If just one student decides to pick up an instrument after these performances then we've accomplished something! Really looking forward to sharing this experience with the leaners of Hout Bay High School and Silikamva High. Thanks to Concerts SA and Re-Connection Africa for making this happen.
A few weeks ago, ouramazing bassist Ryan performed with Stelth from The Lumineers in Joburg! Tomorrow, our stunning vocalist Bonj will be joining him as a special guest in a secret performance! Pull through - it’s going to be wicked!

TheCITY Media Roundup
We’ve been so busy since our EP launch last month that we’ve barely had a spare moment to type our band name into Google and see what people are saying about us! (Yes, we know you do it, too, so stop judging!)
Here’s a roundup of all the local love we’ve been getting from the media...and a little peek into why our musical ethos is so important to us.
1. Between 10 and 5: Oh Wow! – Yes For Love, Collage Portraits and a Future Afro Act.
These guys jumped out of their regular photo roundup to include our music video of Long For You, performed at Popsicle TV.
2. iAfrica: The musical diversity of TheCITY
This was a pretty cool highlight of our interview with iAfrica:
There's a lot of talk about music streaming, downloads, piracy, what is your response to the idea that music in 2015 should be free? “Internet piracy is an outdated concept. If one really wants to find someone's music and not pay for it you can find it somewhere and it really is up to the consumer whether they will pay for it. The entrance level to music is very low in 2015, everyone considered themselves an artist so it is fair to leave the decision to the consumers. Live performance separates honest artists from fame seekers and real fans of music from casual listeners. The internet age has affected the recording industry negatively but has spawned a new age in live performance and the respect it deserves from both listeners and musicians.”
3. ZAlebs: Bubbling Under: TheCITY
We found out that ZAlebs put two and two together when they did their research on our band:
The CITY was formed three years ago but is now only releasing their EP this year, the band clarified to us why the wait had taken so long:
"(Laughs) You don't just meet a stranger and say, "Let's get married", right? We wanted to work out what we wanted to say as a group and what we wanted to do musically. So we took our time and gigged live as much as possible."
4. Musical Mover: Interview with TheCITY
Gabi Goldberg found out that we’re planning a tour for Durban and Jozi in the near future. Keep your eyes peeled - details to follow soon!
5. Popsicle TV: Music Video Release of our Little Dragon cover, Place to Belong
This is last on the list but, definitely not least! We’re so proud to have released this cover with our own special spin. We’re also die-hard Little Dragon fans and hope we’ve done their music just a little bit of justice...not to mention the message of this song really speaks to the youth of SA today.
We’re here tonight. Make an appearance with us. :)
