large infodump about DisplacEdd underneath the cut VAGUE SPOILERS AHEAD, BUT I TRY TO KEEP IT AS BRIEF AS POSSIBLE
I really enjoy this fic.. Woah, fork found in kitchen, the guy who posts tons of fanart and text posts about DisplacEdd REALLY likes DisplacEdd.
I think my favorite aspect of the fanfic is definitely not the aspect I thought I would end up enjoying when I first went into it. When I first started reading, I was reading it because I thought the concept of Future Edd getting STUCK in the past was really intriguing, and I was actually quite on the fence about the romance between Edd and his future self.
But the biggest strength I believe RejectClone has is being able to create insanely compelling bonds between the characters she writes.
Edward and Edd's dynamic is something to be adored, honestly. Which yeah, no duh, it should, because they're the focal point of the entire fic. But I do really appreciate how well they work together and I honestly would've never gotten behind Edd x Future Edd if it weren't for how wonderfully its executed (or, in better terms, being executed) in this fic.
Edd and Edward are the same person technically speaking, but they're characterized differently enough to where a relationship between them doesn't feel too odd and they tend to bounce off of each other very well because of that aspect.
I also do really enjoy seeing how Edward's relationship with Tom and Matt has evolved over the time he's been around them, starting out as animosity, and now reluctant care. At the end of the day, no matter how much he resents the people they became, he still loves the people they were. I really do enjoy the moments with Edward and Tom in particular! They bounce off of each other pretty well, and while their dynamic isn't as fluffy as Edd and Edward's tends to be, it's still just as sweetly devastating.
I don't have much to say about Edward and Matt because very rarely are the two left alone to really interact with each other, and when they are it's usually left to a moment or two. But that feels intentional, and maybe Matt's just extremely avoidant of Edward.. Which yeah, makes sense considering that the fic often leans in the direction that Matt was possibly the reason Edward got stuck in the first place? I don't have very good memories of the earlier chapters to really say for certain if it was outright stated or if it's just the belief that the characters hold.
All and all, I adore this fic and it's an incredibly enjoyable read! It's something I look forward to every week and I'm excited to see where the story leads next! Please read it if you haven't yet.
