I am sick and tired of the way romance is used in moviesss i am sorry.
NO I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING ROMANCE AND SEX OR AGAINST QUEER CHARACTERS OR LESBIANS SPECIFICALLY. I AM JUST TRYING TO EXPRESS MY FRUSTRATION AROUND AMATONORMATIVITY AND COMPULSIVE SEXUALITY.
Vi is anti-establishment and hates enforcers and the city, and loves her family above all, including Powder and later Jinx, because its what Vander taught her. In Season 2, she abandoned her ideals, her people and her sister whom she loved above all. Why? Because she romantically LoVeS the fascist enforcer dictator Caitlyn now. So like its been done a thousand times in fiction, her personality is Caitlyn, her ideals are Caitlyn, her aspirations are Caitlyn, her downfall is Caitlyn. Jinx tells her she is going to die by suicide, Vi mourns her for four seconds and starts having sex with Caitlyn. WHICH I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW. WHAT EXACTLY MADE HER THAT HORNY IN THAT MOMENT TO GET OVER HER GRIEF FOR THE ONLY FAMILY MEMBER SHE HAS LEFT. I DON'T GET IT.
I think it's illogical what they wrote up BUT NOO IT'S LOVE DUH. PEOPLE IN LoVe DO THINGS LIKE THIS BECAUSE THEY LoVe THE OTHER PERSON THAT MUCH- bro shut UPPPP. It's painfully illogical and irrational, and makes romantic love specifically seem like this MaGiCaL iNsUrMoUnTaBLe FoRcE so DUHHH her entire personality would change!!! You're supposed to love your romantic partner the most above everyone else!!!! Then Jinx gets saved by her romantic interest and we have no idea what they discussed and what Ekko told her but that doesnt matter, they are ROMANTICALLY INVOLVED SO OF COURSE, LOVE SAVES THE DAY AGAIN.
Kpop Hunters disappointed me in how little they developed Mira and Zoey and how they tossed them both aside during key moments. Also, how Rumi's Character development did not come with the help of her female FRIENDS no, a GUY, who is a DEMON, TEACHES HER TO NOT BE ASHAMED ABOUT WHO SHE IS, THEN IT'S IMPLIED THAT THEY ROMANTICALLY LIKE EACH OTHER AND HAVE AN ENTIRE SONG TOGETHER WHERE THEY SHARE EQUAL AMOUNT OF LINES. Something which's denied for Mira and Zoey. We get Jinu's entire backstory, Jinu gets COMPLEXITY, because DUHHHH HE'S THE MALE LOVE INTEREST, and we get scraps for the girls. During another key moment which was Gwi-Ma's defeat, Mira and Zoey just scream: ''Rumi!!!!!!'' and then get stopped by the unimportant saja boys. While JINU sacrifices himself and saves Rumi. and defeats Gwi-ma. While the girls do nothing except sing background vocals for Rumi. And from what I saw, the fandom also places such high importance on the romance between Rumi and Jinu, and also the supposed relationship between Rumi's mother and some demon. Idk where that comes from, but apparently ROMANCE WITH DEMONS IS GOOD AND WILL SAVE THE WORLD is the takeaway from the movie, where Jinu is the only demon with morals that we see and the others consume souls without a second thought.
I am a girl ( i think ) who grew up with zero interest in romance and beyond and still haven't had a boyfriend so this ''youre supposed to toss family and friends aside and prioritise your boyfriend/romantic interest'' and 'the most important thing in life is getting a boyfriend/romantic partner!!! That's the only way the be fulfilled!!! And happy and a WHOLE PERSON :) !!! That's what you should prioritise and then yeah your career or whatever'' has pissed me off for a decade. I should be ashamed i wasn't tripping over myself to get a boyfriend like these boring as fuck teen dramas, my teenage life didn't revolve around romance and sex, that I still haven't made romantic experiences, which means that I am pathetically craving for romantic love and repressed but i still didn't find it so there is something intrinsically wrong with me and everyone else who had these experiences are enlightened!!!!!!!!!! And more mature and BETTER than you!!!!!!! You should step THE FUCK aside and let the ACTUAL MAIN CHARACTERS TO THE FRONT :)))))))))!!!!!!
My own friends have never made me feel this way so thank god I wasn't around people for whom these was an actual phenomenon. It started bothering me when YA novels I used to enjoy for a while all paired up their female characters with male characters who treated her shittily and had some kind of power over her, as well as rarely had (female) characters with any importance or palpable relationship to the female main characters. I got frustrated with that and dropped YA for a while, but then of course EVERY FUCKING FILM MARKETED TOWARDS ME OR SONG OR BOOK OR THEATER OR ESSAY OR FEMINIST INSTA POST OR MAGAZINE OR WHATEVER THE FUCK ELSE ALLL WAS ABOUT ROMANTIC LOVE AND SEX. Explored every possible crevice and every possible angle AND SOME MORE AND IT'S STILL NOT ENOUGH THE SAME TROPE HAS TO BE DONE A THOUSANDDD TIMES because IT'S ROMANCEE.
The way so many films marketed towards women and girls revolve around romance and love makes me cringe. There is nothing wrong about it, this is genuinely not the post to yap about how misogynistic it is to shame women and girls for their interest in boys and romance and romance movies. The intensity of the importance placed on romance makes me sick. It's boring and overdone. To act like it's one of the most important experiences one could ever make in life is dense. And I just need this messaging and straight up brainwashing TO FUCKING STOP. I'VE HAD ENOUGH. Bring back movies and books about female friendships where the FUCKING FOCUS IN ON THE FEMALE FRIENDSHIPS, about friendships between MEN AND WOMEN BECAUSE YESSSS ITS POSSIBLE EVERYONE STAY CALM I KNOW IT SHATTERS SOME OF YOUR WORLDVIEWS. Let female characters be HUMAN have character arcs not fucking depending on their romance and sexuality. BECAUSE WHEN IT COMES TO MALE CHARACTERS THERE IS NEVER. NEVER THE SAME AMOUNT OF EMPHASIS ON ROMANCE. It's a catalysis at most BUT NEVER HIS ENTIRE FUCKING ARC.
People who fuck and romance can keep fucking and romancing but let's not act like it's the universal point of life.
