I am in love with Post Rock. I have a distinct feeling you are too. If you're not... its because you haven't listened to enough, or to the right kind. This blog is meant to provide a place for all lovers of post-rock and experimental rock to come and listen, submit, and convene around what is arguably some of the best music being made today. "Yes I Am" - Pg. Lost

Both mellow at times and extremely epic, this has to be one of my favorite Post-Rock songs in existence.  I start a lot of my friends on this song in order to give them a very "quintessential post-rock experience": not too hard, very traditional rock melodies, and totally accessible. This Swedish band has amazing guitar skills: period.  But, its made even better if you are familiar with the genre: its melodic complexities and harmonic variations are truly phenomenal.  Soon to be on your "top post-rock" playlist, I guarantee.

"I Just Wanted to Make You Something Beautiful" - Industries of the Blind

And god, did they.  Shit.  Such amazing strings, such beautiful orchestration, easily the best 13 minutes of music i've heard in a couple of weeks.  Flip this on and let it wash over you... become lost in the music.  This is a sea of beautiful stings and melodies, and it almost washed me away.  Beautiful Post-Rock.

"3 plus 4" - El Ten Eleven 

Album: Every Direction Is North

I like to describe this song as upbeat, energetic, walking post-rock.  Came on my ipod during an entire-pod-shuffle, and it turned out perfect for the sunny day and general good vibes.  Have a listen, and make it part of your day, and trust me, everything will get a bit shinier.

"Mariana" - childs 

Album: Yui

One of my favorite bands in the world, childs features ambient dreamscape post-rock.  And it really is dreamscape - they paint a beautiful picture in your ears like one can only find in dreams.  While there are no featured vocals, childs uses human voices as ambient elements.  So, before you yell at me, yes, I know this is not traditional post-rock.  But, I feel that it is amazing enough to warrant a feature.  And I hope you agree.

“Amberge le Mounton Noir” - Do Make Say Think

This one will really creep up on you.  Some excellent post rock, Do Make Say Think is oftentimes known for a “cascade-like” sound.  Enjoy!

"The World is our ____" - This Will Destroy You

I can't believe I haven't posted this yet.  Possibilities.  That's what this song encapsulates.  An incredible orchestration, set forth by one of the most classic post-rock bands there is: when you think of the genre, if you don't think of This Will Destroy You, its time you do.  Right up there with Mogwai for me, at least, when it comes to what would define the genre best without reaching too far.  Enjoy the song for its contemplation and energy.

"Any Other Name" - Thomas Newman

Perfect to fall asleep to, some melodious (what I would consider) dreamscape post-rock.  Ambient, smooth, and subtle.  Just a touch of instrumentation, but Newman is smart enough to not over-complicate his subtly stated music.  Night, night, my friends: sleep well. 

(Interesting tidbit - this song is featured in American Beauty.)

"Hit and Miss" - Au4

Here is a recent discovery I just made, a little known experimental band from Canada, one that a couple of my friends in my local band scene raved about as soon as I mentioned how much I loved the album. Au4, though they dabble with lyrics, focus their music much more on the ambiance of the piece, using words as elements of the music rather than the focus, making it post-rock enough for me.  Truly emotionally evocative, "Hit and Miss" weaves a story of childhood long gone by, both melancholic and celebratory.  No matter the mood, happy, sad, or somewhere in-between, this song will bring you back. Very summery feel as well: reminds me of childhood family vacations, I think.   Reminiscent and calm, vibrant yet mellow, this is one of my favorite recent musical discoveries, and I hope you will think the same.

"Echoes of the Unmoved" - Tunturia 

Album: Maps (2007)

I bring to you, in all their glory, a solid post-rock band that should be a lot better known that they are.  Tunturia brings a driving, emotional post-rock sound from their home of Canada.  This sweeping single plays with two sides of the same emotion.  First, the band calls with their song, and then, unanswered, responds in epic song to "the unmoved".  At least, that's the way I see it.  Enjoy.

"Ghosts of the Garden City" - Caspian

A bit darker and emotion, heavily featuring guitar shreds and a good driving drum beat.  Caspian is another classic post-rock band, and their name is often tossed around with the Likes of Mogwai or such similar melodic but driving bands.  So sit back, and enjoy :)
