Thank you for mentioning the coven, itâs not confirmed in the show that Armand liked the vampires in the coven, itâs assumed he didnât because he doesnât like Santiago, and because he said he didnât like his job AS AN IMAGE OF HIMSELF, like maybe heâd like it if it didnât define him as matrĂŠ, putting him in a role that comforts him but also abolishes any possibility of a real connection with the coven members, Armand might have wanted a relationship with defined SM roles; but this doesnât mean he wants it to be devoid of a real connection, you know, like healthy BDSM.
And the second reason I keep assuming (rightfully) that Armand did like the coven is because he has an avoidant attachment style (the child who has been abandoned develops and avoidant attachment style; yes), when someone has this attachment style, theyâll probably never entertain staying in proximity with someone they donât like, and the ones they like theyâd be anxious to be in connection with (more layers to reason 1).
Now let me bring in evidence from the show, Armand wasnât fully detached from the members, itâs evident in how he allowed some of them some degree of disobedience, like how he didnât do anything when one of them was pissing his face in the Latin Quarter while missing some coven social event, heâs annoyed, but he allows it, heck he even helps Sam to escape the fire, heck 2ď¸âŁ, his shtick with Santiago isnât personal (and it kinda is), itâs because his maker made him without Armandâs permission, while Armand is a hypocrite when it comes to the 5 laws, because he doubts them, (which I explain in a different post), his anger at Santiagoâs maker stems kinda from his repulsion of the act of making vampires, something that he couldnât explain to Santiago, like what, âSalut Santiago, I keep your maker in a coffin â°ď¸ because the idea of making a vampire repulses me even tho Iâm 400 y/o and literally so powerful but the mere idea of making one makes me weakâ.
And! Letâs leave vampire business aside, heâd even tolerated the coven as a theatre company, as if they were mere humans with mere human concerns, bring in the tickets, put a good show, find a good actor, Santiago wasnât the actor Armand wanted, but he kept him anywayâŚ
What Iâm saying is he tolerated the coven on multiple levels, he liked some more than the others, but his attachment style didnât allow for his enferment of these vamps to show (that much), when he describes them to Louis, he say âmy covenâ, thereâs some attachment in âmyâ and some distance in âcovenâ, had he said something like âmy brethrenâ maybe it would tell us more directly that he felt for these losers.
And so when Louis burns these vampires, whatâs he to do? Suddenly tell Louis he actually liked these fuckers who were trying to jump him, who had they tried heâd have to possibly kill them himself, and it would be so easy to do so, one blink and they are all burnt, the coldest flames upon the ones he kind of liked?
