Question: how infamous was Jean Valjean supposed to be? Like, if someone used his actual name in public by accident, would it turn heads?
He's just a petty crook who broke his parole; I wouldn't expect much general infamy. He's no Lacenaire, certainly. The average person won't have read about his Daring Bread Theft deeds. There is a point right after the fallout of the trial and Champmathieu where he's getting articles written about him; in that era he's probably more of a known name. But we see in the book it's not something that really sticks in the memory of the general public. The big threat will always be from the legal system, and from people like Thenardier who might be actively looking for a blackmail target.
Happy belated end of Valvert Week IV!
Thank you all for participating and all the cool stuff we saw and read (and heard)!!
Hopefully next year the event it will happen in february like normally haha
I like when people like a character so way too much that it transcends even self shipping or kinning and becomes more of a patron saint that you pray to type of deal
What if our characterisation completes each other and our narrative arch ends with me following you to my literal death because you're the only comfort I have in a high stress situation?
And we're both men?
The Les Mis Rarepair of the day is …
❤️ Jean Valjean/Robert ❤️
If you have never seen the 1952 adaptation, hear me out. (If you did, chances are you're already sold on this idea.)
Who is Robert, you may ask? "I have read the brick multiple times, there is not a single Robert in there", you might be about to protest. Well, the movie adaptation of 1952 dared to ask what not many have dared: what if there are not enough characters in Les Mis? What if Valjean... had a husband?
The defining trait of the 1952 movie is that every man falls in love with Valjean at first glance. Robert is no exception to that. He runs a pottery studio - one day, a strange man comes in there, insults his product, then beats him in arm wrestling. Of course he falls in love. Madeleine gives him a few pointers, and together they transform his little shop into a successful factory.
Years later, having recieved the proposition to become a mayor, Madeleine comes clean to Robert about his past - only for Robert to reveal that he knew that since day one, and it changes nothing for him. After Arras, Valjean signs the factory to him, and entrusts him with Cosette's care.
After leaving the convent, Valjean and Cosette move back in with Robert. Valjean continues to confide in Robert about everything. Robert continues to be extremely protective - when Valjean and Javert arrive at their home with half-dead Marius, Robert tries to strangle Javert.
I cannot stress enough how canon Valjean's marriage to his buff potter husband Robert is. At least in the scope of this one adaptation.
Do you ship it?
Yes (ironically)

I am NOT reading all that (breaking the mod's heart)
Happy (belated) Mother’s Day to Jean Valjean!

Another steal for Fantine/Simplice for @lesmisshippingshowdown !
Inspired by favorite exploding trainwreck of an adaptation, LM 1948! What if Simplice were not just an honest nun but also a SCIENCE NUN with her own lab where she does Medical Research to try and find ways to help the people in her care?
Like So
(and what if her experiments found something that helped Fantine actually recover from her illness and then they went and got Cosette and were fine and happy forever--)
So even thought my Simplice here has a simpler hat, she is definitely Inspired By SCIENCE SIMPLICE of 1948.
Jean Valjean in LM 5.5.5: can’t believe Javert killed himself… he must have been crazy… unlike Me the very normal and well adjusted Jean Valjean
This is literally the whole book
I used to be ashamed of myself, always feeling inadequate. This year, I understood my inferiority complex and began to strive for betterment instead of feeling inadequate. I also came to terms with my own frustrations.
During the Les Miserables tour in Taiwan, I happened to be able to give a gift to Bradey Jaden. That same day, he asked me on Instagram do I take commissions, and later told me he loved my work.
I didn't receive many congratulations from others, maybe they thinks the whole instagram things is fake, but I knew I should stop treating myself poorly!
I started exploring new techniques in my drawings, and I feel like I've made a lot of progress. Having my work appreciated by an actor I admire is truly rare and precious. With this, I realized that I should have more courage to try more, whether it is my work or my life.
So this drawings is dedicated to Bradley Jaden. I really learned a lot from his interview. It is a state of mind. Okay, I won’t say more and embarrass myself.
