What if among the reasons Colt doesn’t want Ryland to meet Tom is because Colt knows that Ryland made himself kinda well known in college for being a brat tamer and Ryder is a brat among brats. The issue is Ryland would have a habit of getting attached and his partner would leave him because they weren't really into him outside of the taming. So after a while Ryland stopped because he just kept getting heartbroken.

But now... Now Colt is watching as Tom Ryder struts up to Ryland with that cocky walk of his and Colt can see that hint of a spark come back to Ryland's eye and he's stressed and worried because there's no way Ryland's coming out of this okay.

This is all to say ex-brat tamer Ryland who is about to come out of retirement for one last brat.

Modern no movie plots au where after Tom and Ryland get together and Ryland tells Rocky, Rocky marches over to Tom’s place prepared to give him the shovel talk of a lifetime, perhaps two, in both Eridian AND English. He's also texted Colt to meet him there because you know what? It's needed.

But when Rocky arrives, there’s already someone there and that someone is Adrian. Adrian who has a full tea service set up and is calmly drinking a still steaming cup of tea while Tom Ryder looks like he wants to be anywhere else. He looks very pale too...he might be sweating as well despite the fact that the AC is on. On the table between them are several folders of what looks like photos and one that looks to be some sort of document. When Rocky makes a noise of confusion, Adrian simply turns and smiles sunnily, saying that Rocky needs to wait just a moment, they are almost done, before turning back to Tom and pointing at the document.

Sometimes, Rocky forgets how scary Adrian can be...

I’m still not used to this site and every now and then remember I can ramble like it’s Twitter.

Anyways (and this has probably been said before) I keep thinking about the “you have no immediate family” line and Ryland cutting her off like “what? But I do???” And it’s then that he realizes that because they all have different last names when you look he probably shows up as no family. He also knows that Court did a really good job making sure they couldn't be traced to him.

And Stratt looks at him with a raised eyebrow and Ryland just takes out his phone, hits a few buttons, and suddenly there's several voices yelling asking where he is, why he hasn't been answering anyone's texts, and a lot of other things.

Colt Seavers and the no good bad day where when he arrives on set, he is immediately told the most recent rumor that apparently, THE Tom Ryder has stopped not only going to parties, but hosting them as well. Apparently, it’s also been noted he’s cut back heavily on other things as well. And honestly, Colt was just gonna blow them off as baseless rumors until he turns to the corner to head toward Ryder’s trailer, he sees the man reading on the step. But he’s not reading a script. No, it’s much worse than that.

He’s reading ‘Molecular & Cell Biology for Dummies’. The book looks worn and is full of tiny little tabs.

He’s immediately turning on his heel calling Ryland but it goes to voicemail. In a hushed voice, he leaves a voicemail as he opens the family group chat (the one named ‘NO RYRY ALLOWED’ that they’ve been using since Ryland disappeared for those few months).

“Ryland, I know you’re off playing diplomat with Rocky and Adrian and the Eridians but I REALLY need you to call me back asap. He’s reading a book about your field, Ry! I think he’s serious. Oh my god he’s got a little notebook. He’s serious. Please call me back we have to talk about this."

And just as he's about to turn the corner and continue to text his family he hears "Oh! Colt! You're here! Listen, do you know what Ryland is currenting teaching in his class? I want to get a book about it so I can talk to him about it when I call him later."

And Colt just internally screams.

The thought of Ryland visiting Colt on set because the movie was in his area and everyone on set is DOWN BAD for him, and Colt is so confused because it's literally just him?? They are identical twins. Why does everyone find Ryland more attractive? And it's not in a jealous way he's just so confused (and a little annoyed and protective because hey!! That his younger brother! It doesn't matter if it's by a minute. Colt is still older, and he doesn't appreciate all of his coworkers plotting on Ryland!) . Ryland is oblivious to all of this, of course, and thinks everyone is just really nice.

The straw that breaks the camels back for Colt is when Tom Ryder starts flirting with Ryland. He WILL NOT stand for that and definitely has one of those "Stay away from my brother you dipshit" conversations with Tom. (Tom obviously does not listen and ends up flirting with Ryland even more)

once they start dating, tom officially becomes his unpaid assistant in making ryland's classroom decoration and supplies. if he's good and does his job well, ryland will let him pick the movie they watch while they work (and it's always a tom ryder movie). tom once suggested they just pay someone and the look ryland gave him had him shutting up and going back to cutting out laminated nametags while a space documentary plays in the background. (he's on staple duty the next day when they head to ryland's classroom to prep.)

I’ll eventually expand on this but I love the idea of starstruck being college sweethearts. They only met because Tom is required by his program to take one class outside of the department and he’s pushed it off for so long that he has to take it that semester and of course the first time he takes a step outside his department building he runs into someone and knocks them over.

He debates just walking away to not be late for class but he is lost and so he decides to help the poor guy he knocked over and. Oh. Oh. He's very cute.

The guy waves him off, adjusting his glasses, and tells him if he's trying to get into the building, the door is broken and he has to go around. Tom looks at him weirdly and goes "...where's the closest entrance?" and the guy blinks at him and asks if he's a new student and Tom tells him he's from the theater department. The guy instantly lights up, saying something about how his brother is also in that department and perhaps they've met. And Tom kinda awkward laughs because he really just needs to get to class and so he asks again and the guy (Ryland, he learns) goes "Oh! Sorry, sorry. Which class are you looking for?" and Tom tells him the class he's going to and Ryland lights up because he's the TA for that class. And he's also running late. So they walk together and Tom finds out that normally undergrads don't TA for this class but well... He's an exception... And they get to the class and Ryland waves goodbye to him.

And for some reason...that makes him sad. But he pushes it aside because he's got to focus on this class so he can keep his major.

(And it works out for him in the end because he really does need help in the class and Ryland very nicely offered to help him study.)

Tom being so used to be the center of attention when he walks into a room that when he’s at conferences and meetings and The Vat and all attention is always on Ryland and not on him he’s…he’s not even mad. He’s almost giddy with happiness because Ryland really does deserve to be recognized for his work. (Of course he’s a little possessive too but he’s working on that…kinda…not really…) For once he’s happy being arm candy for his cute super important scientist boyfriend.

And if he happens to be on the phone with Colt (who is working on a non-Ryder movie tsk tsk should have just agreed to be Ryder’s stunt guy permanently so he could see Ryland WAY more) talking loudly about how amazing Ryland is (my darling star and other such cute nicknames) right in front of Mr. Staggering Waste well…

What can he say, it’s a crowded ship.

you know when people promise that if they aren't married by the time they are like thirty they will get married? what if during a party, the first one colt attended after being picked as tom ryder's stunt man and that ryland got dragged to, a somewhat drunk ryland told a very flirty and handsy tom that if he managed to remain entirely sober for one year...ryland would marry him. just walk down to the local courthouse and bing bang boom, married.

and ryland remembers his words the next day and groans as his head pounds because god that was so stupid of him to just announce to some playboy actor he would marry him. stupid stupid ryland. but soon he puts it out of his mind and goes about his life. tom probably just laughed it off and forgot. it wasn't a big deal. then the conference happens, the fallout happens, and he's a teacher. he never goes back to one of colt's movie sets again.

but then he gets a weird feeling one day and calls colt. tells him he feels off and that's when colt tells him they are doing a big drop that day and it's probably just colt's nerves he's feeling. it'll be fine. but ryland is not convinced, tells him he needs to delay the stunt, check everything again. colt insists it's fine.

but then just as the drop is about to happen, colt is pulled back from the edge by tom who insists they do it later. colt notes his phone is in his hand as he's pulled back up and things are checked over. they find the controls had been bumped and colt would have broken his back, or worse.

when colt asks tom why he stepped in, tom just blows him off. later, in private, colt asks again and tom says he got a text from the "angel in a sweater" he remembers seeing at a party years ago. told him to stop the stunt and tom listened cause he remembers the angel was very pretty and nice to him and told him he would marry him if he got sober. which he's been struggling to do but he's been trying. admits that when the days get bad, that memory is what keeps him going. He doesn’t even need a sticky note to remember.

and colt just wants to scream because that 'angel in a sweater' is 100% ryland and he knows that ryland gets sappy when drunk. but then he notices that tom's trailer is completely clear of any substance, even a seltzer, and while he can't stand tom, he's not about to ruin something the man is obviously working hard on. so colt says he'll help tom with his sobriety, but they are going to have some long talks about what tom wants from ryland and what he'll do to ensure ryland's life is unaltered should they do get married one day (god help him...tom ryder as an in-law). he should probably get them at least talking first...
