The bard had found some ways to entertain herself and that let Xena have some space. She couldn’t but wonder if she should have left Gabrielle safe to the last village they had passed by a few days prior.

She also couldn’t bring herself to think if the girl had understood that the body that she’d left in the woods was dead, she just hoped that Gabrielle thought that she had only knocked him unconscious. She knew that the girl had grown a lot and got stronger, learning everything she taught her. But she had to kill that man, if he wasn’t a common thief he would have surely kept trying to kill them and she couldn’t have that, on top of all, to think about on their way to the city. This journey threatened to become more and more dangerous each day. Xena suddenly felt a sense of anger and frustration growing inside her, how was it that she couldn’t control her emotional responses when it comes to the petit girl that vowed to follow her no matter what? It just irritated her so much but she couldn’t blame it on the poor, innocent girl but she had to release some pressure.

The sky had gotten darker, the night was about to fall, Xena was still a little touchy, “We need to rest, set the fire, lay the furs. Here will be fine.” The warrior pointed to an indefinite point between two big trees, “You set the beds and the fireplace, I’ll go get some firewood. If you need help, call me. Be right back.” And with that, the tall woman vanished deeper into the woods. She got back not long after, harms full, “Here.” She said putting down the wood on the ground next to Gabrielle, she was feeling lighter and not only from dropping down the firewood. One thing was clear in the warrior’s mind though, that they’ll be in Olympia soon and she’ll have to decision to take.

It had been a good day. Ever in her mind was a joy that she'd left Podedea behind. Better yet, it was the amazing Xena she was following out of there, and kept leading her farther away from a life of . . . .normalcy. Gabrielle didn't really mind that her friend had walked well ahead of her today. It was enough that she was allowed to follow. Sure, it worried her sometimes that she was little more than a tag-a-long. However, she tagged along with a determination that not even Xena bothered to question anymore.

Keeping up with the Warrior Princess had been quite a challenge as they traveled today, but Gabrielle was refusing to admit even to herself how glad she was when Xena called a halt at twilight.

On the woman's curt bidding, Gabrielle spread out their furs, boldly setting her own right next to Xena's. Little by little, she'd been inching them closer together, and Xena had not complained, for whatever reason.

She didn't worry at all when Xena left on her task. The Warrior Princess could not only survive anything, Gabrielle was certain that if anything went wrong back at the campsite, Xena would be there as needed. As she always was. Absolutely always. Her tall friend was short on conversation, but every word withheld was made replaced by Xena's ardent care of her from apples to arrows.

Gabrielle found herself examining her stunningly beautiful friend as she licked the last of the rabbit grease from her fingers. It worried her how the woman stared silently at the flames. Boldly, Gabrielle got to her feet and she went to sit closely beside her dark haired friend with the perfect, shield-shaped face. She only hesitated a moment before speaking.

"Are you . . . . .okay?"
