here’s a brief-ish list of some old favorites i have! not comprehensive in any way, and in no particular order. should be familiar to people who have shipped gabenath for a while, but hopefully nice for any newcomers 🥹
“Whence I Came (Fragments)” by dishwater_blondie
very nathalie-centric, with comprehensive headcanons about her backstory (and some very colorful OC’s), but there’s gabenath smattered tastefully throughout. features nathalie retracing steps throughout her memory in preparation for an unexpected reunion with family. extremely formative for me, and heavily influenced how i write nathalie (and even how i write gabriel). CH 10/10
“Throwing Up These Butterflies” by MyMayura
a classic. probably The classic, in gabenath circles. currently unfinished, but i believe the author still has designs to complete it. features slowburn gabenath, villain redemption, hero!gabriel, agreste family shenanigans (both dramatic and silly), and a great big heap of kwami swaps. saying anything else would be… spoilers, haha. but i promise it’s quite the epic. “The Light Reflects and I See You Again” by dishwater_blondie
if you’ve ever wanted gabriel to go absolutely ballistic after losing nathalie, this is definitely the fic for you. a generous heaping of angst, a deep well of mutual yearning sandwiched in-between, and it’s all handled with a lot of gentleness and grace. CH 3/3
“well, of course i’ve tried lavender” by telmes (archkoeln)
still makes me laugh. i’m laughing right now just remembering it lmao. features hawkyura unintentionally becoming a hit ship among parisians, and that’s everyone’s problem. plays around with social media, lots of images embedded for immersion, and soooooo many shenanigans. (should be noted that the silly tone of this fic is very much the exception and not the norm, if you read telmes’ other works). CH 2/2
“Nobody’s Perfect” by fleurjaune
an exploration of the idea that while emilie was aware of adrien’s nature as a sentimonster, gabriel and nathalie were not. treats the subject with gravity, but isn’t afraid to throw in pockets of hilarity. heavy on gabenath commiserating and relying on each other to make it through the revelation, ends on an open note. always adored this one for the build up, and i can still believe gabenath reacting the way they do, assuming they’d never known. CH 4/4
everything on this list is canon-divergent (some intentionally, others made so by the passage of time and the acquisition of more canon), but this one’s very canon divergent. soulmate AU of an AU (the original of which i also recommend), nathalie is hawk moth and fighting to reunite gabriel with his missing wife. features the fae, sorcerer!emilie, contentious emigabe, disaster soulmates gabenath, and tiny sprinkles of sangrestes. i’m not normally a partaker of that pie, but quality is quality. (psst, this fic’s also the reason my butterfly!nathalie has always been called “luna moth”). hard T-rating, some steamy scenes. CH 10/10
“A Purposeful Haunting” by fleurjaune
maybe a little more sangrestes than gabenath, with a focus on eminath’s relationship (once again, not normally a partaker of that pie, eminath especially, but quality is quality is quality). emilie’s trying to get gabenath together the whole time from beyond the grave, so i suppose that counts? a very fun and amusing read, and i looooove me some morallyambiguous!emilie. ONESHOT
