trying not to go crazy from witnessing other writers go through the same phenomenon that almost had me stop writing fic. but we must keep writing fic about women no matter what. even if our mlm oneshots got thousands of hits and as soon as we write about women we’re lucky to break 300 hits and it’s hard not to feel depressed about the sudden drop in interest. we’ll be okay. we have each other.
I love femslash ships between characters who barely meet in canon, if they do at all, because both of them get royally fucked over, but if you spare the braincells to consider the possibilities in a world where the writers were less misogynist, holy shit, the ship rules

Shallan/Vin: Vin is her rock, sees through Shallan's jokes and sooths her deepest insecurities. Vin would kill for Shallan.
Vin/Radiant: Radiant is her rock, sees through Vin's tough exterior and treats her as the gemheart she is. Radiant would kill for Vin.
Veil/Vin: The most traumatized Freak4Freak combo in the Cosmere. They would kill for each other and make out over the corpse.

1) What made you ship it?
@mayaeatsbooks. Like I don't think there's more to say about it. Objectively I hadn't so much as considered it until she started talking about it and now I'm #Team ShalVin for life.
2) What are your favorite things about the ship?
How they portray themselves in public is ABSOLUTELY exactly the other's type early in their series. Shallan is a somewhat snarky, intelligent aristocrat like Elend, and Vin is rough-around-the-edges and extremely competent, while also having a kind exterior if you get through the layers and layers and layers and layers of trauma like Kaladin!
3) Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Can you have an unpopular opinion on a ship with 6 works? I honestly don't know so I'll just give a general fandom opinion that I think applies here: You don't have to make it make sense within the framework of canon. ShalVin does not need to make sense—it only needs be made.
a true cosmere crackship would be vin/vivenna that ends in the worlds most messy breakup that they both pretend never happened

I need people to know: femslash does not have a higher barrier of entry than mascslash. writing women does not require you to be a better writer than writing men does. you can write femslash that is low quality and i actually encourage it. you should write femslash that’s shitty, that’s underbaked, that you wrote in one night, that you didn’t proofread. you should write femslash for that one ship, yeah even that one other people might think is weird. you should write femslash whenever you feel like it and you don’t need to tackle misogyny when you do it, it can just be escapist, you can invent a fictional world where two women can be in love with each other without consequences. I promise you the people in fandom who enjoy femslash will love it.

Another bonus to have firefighters wandering around your scene- we have a saying, "Don't lift with your back, lift with your firefighters". Also, if you ever want to make a firefighter's entire week, tell them that you've got a locked metal door and you're going to need forcible entry to gain access.They will absolutely trip over each other trying to get the Halligan tool first. It's honestly kinda adorable.
