IDEFK, I’m pretending I’m doing Android Appreciation August (I am not really; it’s a lie, I don’t make content for characters I don’t like and not only are there characters I don’t care about on the base sheet there’s two days specifically dedicated to Least Faves and I don’t believe in spending the self-directed parts of my finite lifespan doing shit I don’t enjoy) BUT ANYWAY here is a Connor, vaguely inspired by my favorite ongoing fic.

Johnny and Miguel make a bet for the far-off future.

"You're a kid."

"I won't always be."

Johnny snorted.

"I won't always be," Miguel repeated, "and I can wait. When you think I'm old enough I'll take you to Golf N' Stuff, and I'll kiss you on the Ferris wheel, and I won't ever throw you aside for someone else, I promise."

Milt turned his head to look at Russ, a sad smile curving his lips. He was deathly pale; the blood on his face was the only thing giving it any color. "Is it all you hoped it would be? Are you happy, now?" No, Russ wasn't happy. Very far from it. The sweet victory he'd been anticipating tasted just like bile.

"Getting philosophical again, huh? 'Home is where the heart is.' Maybe that lama of yours came up with that, too?"

"No, that's just a proverb."

"Whatever," Russ spat. "So tell me, Milt, where is your heart?"

Milt began walking down the hall, heading for the bedroom. He glanced back before slipping inside, meeting Russ' gaze. There was a nasty, cold look in his eyes. "What makes you think I have one?"

"Even when I was in control of myself, I let others rule over me. Let what was deemed normal dictate what I did — how I fucking felt."

He stopped pacing and turned to Steve, anger shining out of his eyes. "Well, I've had it," he snarled, "you hear me?! I've had it with pretending, and I'll damn well do this before the end."

He marched forward, coming to a stop in front of Steve. He crouched down and grabbed Steve by the front of his uniform, hauling him in.

At first Steve thought he was being headbutted, because the contact was painful — then he realized that Bucky was kissing him. Hard and rough, not an ounce of softness in it, nothing but anguish and pent-up desperation.

And Steve, Steve had wanted this too. Never quite understood it until this moment; until he tasted iron and salt, and had Bucky's trembling hands fisted in his clothes.

He returned the kiss, just as desperately.

Aaaah, these are fantastic! I love them all! Your style, colors, overall composition, the ideas themselves — it’s all wonderful. Gunner’s “brother” is super-cute, and I adore the one where he’s sitting broken-hearted with a bouquet of roses. The one where he’s lifting up Yang is just too sweet for words, and Yang’s reassurance that he’s okay in the first one made me laugh. The black-and-white piece of Barney and Lee with the cyan/red explosion in the background is utterly stunning, and the final piece put a big grin on my face — Barney looks totally unfazed, haha.

In case it’s not obvious enough, I loved these! ♥ You’re extremely talented, thank you so much for sharing!

Barney slides into bed, covering them both with the blanket. He lies facing Gunner, briefly content with simply watching him sleep. In the end, the temptation to lift his hand and gently stroke the bangs from Gunner's face becomes too much. He gives in without much resistance, figuring that it might be the last time he'll get the chance. Hell, depending on how things turn out, it's perhaps the last time he'll even see Gunner.

"Don't drink so much," he whispers.

Gunner mumbles something in his sleep and moves closer, perhaps seeking out the fleeting touch. Heart aching, Barney pulls him closer, running a hand up and down his back, slowly.

After a while, Gunner's breathing changes — he's awake, and Barney knows he should let go; should pull back and keep his distance, but he just can't. So he continues stroking Gunner's back, and pretends he doesn't feel the shuddering of Gunner's breath against his chest.

Oh, I'm so happy to finally be able to read this! It's such a beautiful comic, and utterly heartbreaking yet hopeful and just... I love it, truly.

"Do you honestly think, "Gunner says, each word so slow that it's like they are being dragged out of him, "that I wouldn't have warned you if that was the case? If Jean Vilain had somehow still been alive, and gunning for you — you think I would've just let you walk in here, clueless?"

"Gunner," Barney tries, "this is ridiculous-"

"You think," Gunner howls, "that I wouldn't gladly have taken a bullet if it meant keeping you safe?!"

There's a limit to everything. Until this moment, Barney has been good at telling himself that their relationship is nothing more than sex and simple companionship. There have been moments, yeah, where it had been hard to hold onto the delusion — but he'd always managed to build it up again, no matter how badly dented. But this is the end of it. The absolute terror that grips him at the thought of Gunner dying for his sake is just the last straw, really. Deep down, he's known for a long time.

The old Bucky Barnes would've joked and teased, playfully begging Steve to forgive him — but it was doubtful if that would work now. And, more importantly, he really didn't think he could pull it off. It was one thing to remember the past, and another entirely to actually be that person. But the Winter Soldier had experience, as well. Failed missions that had earned him the ire of his handlers, not to mention the way he'd angered them by fighting back in the very beginning, before they'd managed to rip that out of him. Their methods had differed — some had simply beaten him to a pulp, while others used more refined methods to break him — but the cure to their displeasure had always been the same: Pain. They got to hurt him enough, and they'd forgive him for his mistakes. Steve wasn't like them, he knew that, but... He didn't know what else to do. And physical pain was a small price to pay, if it meant Steve would smile at him again. Taking a deep breath, he got to his feet and went to stand in front of Steve. "Spar with me," he said.

This is so, so, so gorgeous...! His hair looks so soft and beautiful, and I love the way he's looking at the photo with this sorta sad longing on his face. And speaking of his face, you really captured him perfectly -- the chin and mouth in particular. And I love the sweep of his long eyelashes and the pink tint to his nose and that stubble, guh. I could stare at this for hours, no lie.
