Immortal - An Art Book of Myths and Legends from around the World - is a book project now on Kickstarter, featuring full-page illustrations of mythological gods, heroes, and monsters from various world cultures. This artwork is being created by talented and trending fantasy concept artists, including Xia Taptara,Monika Palosz, Kian Ng, Grant Griffard, Milek Jakubiec, and David Sanhueza. Accompanying these breath-taking illustrations are the myths which inspired them, interpreted and written by David Sanhueza.
Go check it out now! :)
I am very excited to reveal to you GAME-O-GAMI’s next big game in development: IMMORTAL - a game of mythic strategy!
The war of the gods has begun. Born from the dreams and nightmares of mankind, legendary beings are gathering forces to crush their enemies. They have put their fate in the hands of mere mortals like yourself, granting you the power to lead them to victory. Capture your opponents’ forces, turn their powers against them, and forge your own legend!
In Immortal, ancient gods, heroes, and monsters battle for control over mythic realms. 2 to 4 players assume command of powerful pantheons summoned from world mythologies – the first of many planned master sets will feature characters from the Norse, Greek, Japanese, and Native American pantheons. Each pantheon of character cards offers unique abilities and strategies to be mastered. Battles take place on modular grid boards, representing the nexus of mythical realms. The goal of the game is to control the most cards on the board by capturing your opponents’ cards and defending your own.
Immortal has been developed, playtested, and polished over the course of three years under the former working title Legends At War. The game is designed by David Sanhueza, with artwork by popular fantasy concept artists Xia Taptara, Monika Palosz, Kian Ng, Grant Griffard, and David Sanhueza. We’re in preparation to launch the game on Kickstarter in early 2015.
More information about the game, including previews of the artwork and rules, can be found on BoardGameGeek.
One of the stretch goals for the Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! kickstarter last month was a new Team Fairy illo from me. Here’s how it turned out. Hi-res wallpapers of it are also available.

We are creating this project for fans of children's fantasy, and for collectors of great art. Books like these helped us discover and grow our own artistic talents when we were kids. And we sincerely hope that, through this project, we can contribute to the nourishment of other children's creative abilities and imaginations.Thank you for spreading the word and helping us make these books a reality!

Hello, everyone. We're on Day 5 of our campaign, and already at about 80% of our funding goal. Way to go!I would like to welcome all of the new backers to our project. We're seeing some familiar names show up from our previous Kickstarter project, and it's really bringing back fond memories. Thank you for joining us on this new adventure, it feels good to jump back into the world of Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule with you! We have put together some "Backer Badges" for you to use and share as you like. Using these badges as your profile images here on Kickstarter, and on other internet forums and communities which you participate in, would really help us spread the word about this project and be greatly appreciated. I hope you like them! As always, we love hearing from you guys - so drop us a message or leave us a comment whenever you like! - David
Some of you might recall the Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! all-ages card game I illustrated a couple years back. If not:

Well now, Game-O-Gami and I have teamed up to Kickstart not only an affordable paperback edition of the full-color art book (which was previously only a hardcover exclusive to those who backed the card game kickstarter), but we’ve hired awesome digital artist Josh Ulrich to ink my sketches for a new coloring book! And he’s done an AMAZING job.
This is my first foray into Kickstarting, and I’m hoping it’s a positive experience for a future project I’m toying with Kickstarting sometime next year. But a lot is going to depend on the success of this one. So please help share the news! Even better, please support it! Would love to see this happen. Link below.
Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! - Art and Coloring Books
David Sanhueza and Mike Maihack are once again teaming up, this time to create a coloring book based on the lively goblin and fairy characters from the hit family card game Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! To raise the money needed to finish and print this book, we will be running a campaign on the popular crowd-funding website Kickstarter, beginning July 31st.
Mike Maihack's beautiful paintings of goblins and fairies are being turned into clean line-art for this coloring book, by fellow comics artist Josh Ulrich. The Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! cool for school Coloring Book will be an 8.5"x11", 50-page, softcover book. It will also be made available in digital form as a PDF, which can be printed again and again to cover refrigerators all over the world...
Along with the coloring book, the Kickstarter campaign will be raising funds to print an unlimited, softcover edition of The Art of Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! art book. The art book features all of the beautiful full-color illustrations from the game, as well as insights into the world of fairies and goblins, interviews with the creators (us!), and a "behind the scenes" look at the creative process that went into the unique artwork.
The Kickstarter campaign will run from July 31st until August 31st, and is being run by Game-O-Gami. We're very excited to launch soon, and to see old and new friends alike help us make these fun books a reality!
When you can look at the needs of the market and not just your own personal tastes, your games go much further. You gotta still like and be proud of what you’re designing, of course, or what’s the point?

A Crash Course in Board Games
John Pappas, an advocate for boardgaming in public libraries, has been publishing a six-part series of articles dedicated to board games. These articles provide a crash course for anyone interested in the very social hobby of face-to-face gaming. I have found this series enjoyable and educational, and would like to share it with the rest of you.
As Mr. Pappas puts it, the scope and quantity of board games available to play has exploded in the past ten years. Most of us grew up playing at least a few board and card games, even if only the ubiquitous Monopoly and UNO. There’s a much bigger world of social, real-time, table-top fun available to us now! So if you’re new to the hobby, or curious about gaming unplugged, then this series of articles will welcome you in while providing you with a wealth of knowledge. If you’re an experienced gamer, I think you will still find this series a fun read, and will probably learn something.
Four of the articles have been released so far. Here they are for your reading enjoyment:
Part One: An Introduction to Designer Board Games
Part Two: A Progressive List of Game Types
Part Three: Thematic vs Strategic Games
Part Four: Interactions, Lamentations, and Vanquished Foes
Be sure to share these articles and leave comments on their pages to let Mr. Pappas know what you think of them! Peace,
- David
Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule!
2013 was a good year for Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule!, the card game of rhyme and reason, and 2014 is looking just as good! Game-O-Gami’s first published title has been getting a lot of positive attention, been receiving glowing reviews, and is being recognized for various awards in the hobby gaming industry. I’d like to share with you a few of the accolades that GDFR has received over the past months:
Another mention on the Dice Tower podcast! Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule!was Tom Vasel’s pick for the game with the best artwork of 2013. It’s not a choice I disagree with… Of course, as the game’s creator, I am biased, and “best artwork” is a very subjective category. But I think there are very few people who would disagree that Mike Maihack’s charming goblin and fairy illustrations deserve to be recognized among the best game artwork of 2013. It’s an honor that Game-O-Gami is very proud to receive. Tom and Eric talk about GDFR and it’s beautiful artwork around the 1:15:00 mark of this episode: Dice Tower Podcast episode 335
Selected as Ravenwood Castle’s Game of the Month for September 2013. The award included a review as well: “Unlike many games designed specifically for kids, this one has enough substance to be enjoyable for the adults as well. That makes Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! a perfect game to sit down and play as a family, which makes it perfect for our mission at Ravenwood of encouraging families and friends to spend quality time together.” You can read the full review here: Ravenwood Castle Game of the Month
Received the Major Fun Award and a review. According to Will Bain: “All these features created an intriguingly strategic game. Knowing when to play a card because it would help your cause and when to play one so that it would harm your opponent was a big part of the decision process. All cards are visible so you can make plans for yourself as well as plans to thwart your rivals.” Read the full review here: Major Fun Award
Earned a video review from the popular Rahdo Runs Through YouTube series. Richard Ham, “Rahdo”, covered Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! in his signature casual style, breaking up the review into a 3-part video. The first video can be viewed here, follow the links on the YouTube page for the second and third videos:
And finally, Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! has once again been nominated for a Golden Geek Award! Listed for Best Children’s Game of 2013, we’d love to get your support in the voting and give the game the recognition it truly deserves. You can vote for GDFR by heading on over to the voting page – but be quick, you only have until February 17 to do so! Note, you must be an active BoardGameGeek.com user to participate in the voting.
