Daryl and the ditsy!reader who he tolerates. pt. 2
Daryl had come to learn that you were the easiest person to track. It’s like you were begging to be found. When you had left, he didn’t waste anytime running after you—not even telling the group about what happened.
You were maybe a few hours ahead of him and he had found you held up in a tiny cabin. He knew you were there because your pink heels was hung on to front railing and it was honestly ridiculous but he wasn’t the one who had an option to be fussy right now.
When he slowly opened the front door he could hear you practically wailing inside as he looked around the cabin to see you already setup your belongings there.
“C’mon let’s go back” It was the only thing he said. No ‘hi’ or ‘hello’ which made you surprised as you threw a bottle of body wash at him. ironic—cus he never showers. “What the hell you did that for?” He would shout at you as you looked over him in disdain.
“How’d you find me?” You sobbed, trying to push him out of the cabin but since Daryl is Daryl, you could use all the strength you had and he still probably wouldn’t budge. “Leave me alone”
“I could smell your strawberry cake, bullshit from the—“ Daryl bit his tongue, he needed to be more nice or else you’d run away again, “—Not the point, you need to get your ass back to the prison”
“Is the longevity that good?” You suddenly froze, as you smelled yourself, “Oh my god, it does smell pretty strong! I’ve always had faith in the body mists as long as you shower yourself in it—“ Daryl would glare at you before you could continue rambling. “I don’t want to go back, that place makes me feel like high school all over again” You frowned, folding your arms together as you turned away from him like a child.
“Why?” Then you turned around as you sighed a brief silence was in the air as you looked at him again with your glassy eyes, “Tell me”
“Well, I didn’t always look this good” You tried to pass it as a joke as you gestured to yourself, “Whatever—kids are stupid and I got bullied—it’s nothing serious”
“It clearly is if you’re upset about it” Your gaze softened as you sniffled, turning away from him again. “Listen, I’’m sorry for what happened—just come back”
“Stop pretending like you care” You whined at him as you mentioned for him to go away.
“I don’t” He answered simply.
“Oh, you don’t?” You mumbled quietly, your lips started quivering as you felt the tears well up in your eyes again, but before you could cry out and let walkers in the vicinity knows—
“But I don’t want you to die out here alone—so that counts as something right?” Daryl tried, his voice going higher in the end as he hesitates himself.
“I still don’t want to go, so you can just leave” Daryl simply nodded. There was nothing he can do, it’s not like he can drag you out of the cabin and bring you back. You would probably pepper spray him with a pepper spray that came out of a lipstick.
“Well, if you don’t like it—ya could always come back”
When Daryl went back, everyone wondered where you went and when he explain—everyone felt guilty. Maggie and Carol offered to go out and tried to persuade you to return but Daryl just told them not to.
The first day since you left, Daryl was out on a hunt—the cabin was in his eye sight and he caught a rabbit. He thought about throwing it in front of your door but he knew you wouldn’t do anything with it anyways. You can’t even start a fire. So he opted out for an exchange, the rabbit for a few cans of beans at the prison. He would leave them by your door and waited for you to take it.
He felt satisfied when he saw the smile on your face.
He also took the liberty of taking out a few walkers in your area, making sure it was safe for you to sleep at night.
The second day he was out on a run with Glenn and when he passed by a drug store he saw a coconut scented extra moisturizing body lotion that was left untouched—of course who the hell would take it in times like these. So he snagged the whole shelf, the body lotion taking up more space than actual necessities—Glenn did not question him.
Same thing, he would leave it in front of your cabin as he waited behind a tree to see your reaction. This time when you opened the door, you squealed and jumped in excitement.
For the first time in a long time, Daryl laughed.
The third day, he brought you some water that he filled up in empty bottles. He waited for you to open the door—this time however, it took longer than usual.
Daryl started to get antsy has he contemplated whether or not he should go and see what happened to you. He waited around long enough as he ran towards the cabin.
Only to see no sign of you.
Your stuff was still around but he could see how you left in a hurry. He started by searching the perimeter, screaming out your name but you never responded. That’s when the worry sets in.
Daryl decided it was best to go back to the prison and get more people to find you so he can cover more ground but when he ran back—he saw you out in the prison fields crying and wailing as Maggie and Carol tried comforting you.
“What the hell happened?”
You turned around and wailed out even louder, “Daryllllll…” You dragged out his name as you could see everybody trying to hold their laugh in. “I killed a walker!”
In your hand, was you favorite pair of heels and the actual heel part, was covered in dried blood.
“She did it… She finally killed one” Maggie tried to explained while containing her laugh, a wide smile carved on her face.
“Then what? Ya sad you killed the dead?” Daryl questioned, feeling confused at the fuss you were making.
“My juicy limited edition 2002 t-track suit! It’s all dirty!” You screamed, your raised your head back as you stomped your feet.
“Oh my fucking god, I thought you were dead!” Daryl shouted as he flailed his arms at you, “Went to your cabin and ya weren’t there” It seemed like no words were registering in your brain. You just kept looking at the hot pink jumpsuit, stained with walker blood.
“I’ll wash it for you, sweetie” Carol comforted you, softly caressing your back.
“I l-left all my stuff back there I need to get it” You sniffled, slowly calming down after hearing Carol’s offer. Daryl could honestly not comprehend what was happening right now.
But he gave in.
“I’ll go get it for ya” You wiped away your tears as your eyes widened.
“Really? You’d do that for me?”
“Y-yes” He hesitated, not really knowing what he was getting himself into.
Your frown turned into a smile as you lunged at him for a hug. Daryl froze. Everybody silently laughing at the situation. You keep chanting thank you repeatedly in his chest as his brain short-circuited.
“Kay, stop—ya stink, go inside and get yourself cleaned up or something” Daryl brushed up, trying to make himself look unaffected.
Just when it couldn’t get worse, you looked at him and thanked him again—swiftly planting a kiss on his cheek.
Everyone could see his ears turning red as you ran back inside the prison.
