a new year, let it go

it is a fresh new year, the previous year and all those that have gone before are resigned to the past with our personal history, our collective past, all the things you were going to do, but didn't, the shoulda coulda woulda's, our mistakes, our failures and our victories all gone. that running inner monologue that won't cut you a break. well, that's going to change right now. maybe you're not as rich, not as slim or beautiful as you wish, older than you care to admit, your hair [mine] is thinner, your waste [mine] is not, there's plenty of water under the bridge, gallons of milk spilled, and so what, who really cares? history belongs where it is, and you and I belong here in the present for this brief moment in time. so lets forgive ourselves, maybe learn from our mistakes and let them go, we screwed up, i screwed up, alot, and i will again, so what? perfection continues to elude me and always will, you too? so maybe sometimes good enough is good enough. time to tell your inner voice that they need to change their dialogue, after all you get to enjoy your family and friends, feel the hot sun on your back, taste spicy food burn your tongue, drink something cool and refreshing, pat yourself on the back a little more, enjoy your family and your friends, and smile because you are one of the lucky ones that gets to live a life.
