shits me off how little people talk about what Australia's Labor party has achieved. we have one of the highest minimum wages, we have pretty good public transport, we have medicare, we have regulations for WHS and food and industry, we're on track with renewables, it's relatively safe to be LGBT, you can go to uni and only pay back ur loan if you start earning decent money..

I was talking to my dad the other day about how badly fucked things for us (&Aus broadly) n how easy it is to focus on how shit stuff still is (astronomical rent for example), and how that means it's also important to focus on the good.

...Especially because alllll the news all the time is about fucking America and how America's going and what Trump's doing and how what's happening in America is going to affect everything.... like, enough already! we have stuff happening here too yaknow!

America also fucking has us under its thumb and we have almost zero autonomy!!! every tiny victory we get from Labor trying to improve Aus's industry and standards wins us that much more wiggle room!

Surely it's not just me, but is anyone else noticing that culture war issues of the United States of America are being (especially after the rapid rise of One Nation) exported to Australia. Things like education being supposedly indoctrination, or that transgender people, specifically transgender women are problematic and taking over women's spaces. And even the red scare talking point, I mean we have people genuinely calling the Labor Party COMMUNIST?!

It's a very concerning trend, which I hope doesn't continue. Because if it does, what is currently America's reality will become ours.
