As a kid who grew up playing in the woods during many a winter, I can assure OP (and anyone else with doubts) that there was no A.I. generating icicles on the trees we played on, in, and around. We found them on trees, bushes, even outcrops of rocks and handles of tools. And yes, we broke them off and crunched them like winter candy. Nothing quite so refreshing as munching on fresh winter icicles.
