I don’t know where to begin with this one either. Okay I didnt know it was this bad. This kid basically tried to school me on the caste system and I’m glad to inform you guys they epically failed! They tried to claim that mestizos were indigenous and that I might not be considered native by some. This was an odd comparison as most carrizo people consider me carrizo. When I have records tracing my lineage back to a camargo missions girl filed under nacion carrizo?
The chairman did and might still that is. I have differing opinions from his (the chairman) which would likely be the only reason I wouldn’t be in his eyes as fucked up as that sounds. The chairman issue is a different story all together though.
I feel a strong sense that they think indigenous people are too colonized to accept them. Thats what I took from this conversation. That’s a really dangerous notion.
They brought up the caste system as if I didnt understand what that is. It seemed like they think if we don’t “accept” them its our fault for acknowledging concepts such as mestizo and that it speaks to our close mindedness when we should be more like them afteral!? And yes I have a problem with the word acceptance in this particular circumstance as it acts as a word to push this narrative that indigenous people are closeminded and inept.
They claimed that is was like pinning two tribes against each other to see who was more native. My response was that mestizos arent a tribe. To equate such a thing was proposterous. As someone who has heard what I consider to be anti Apache and Comanche sentiment amongst carrizo tribal members that claim isn’t something I take lightly.
I tried to emphasize the respect part and how if we lose connected people we don’t have shit. I told them it takes time to get reconnected. Sometimes a lifetime and that it can and is often a slow process. Retribalizing is an ongoing process of learning as well. It doesn’t end. Homogenization doesn’t take into account the defining difference or defining characteristics of these two groups.

Someone I believe said here before you can get reconnected but to do so in the right way. This was never about withholding knowledge or outcasting anyone. I expect the same.

He's gone now
I dont know how to feel. He claims I was important to him. He called me every morning until I told him to stop as it got weird for me for certain reasons. I have to be vague as I dont want to explain everything. I don't know if its me getting scared and being severely untrusting of others intentions for me. Some things seemed shady but when I hear more about his past it saddens me.

a gentle reminder that you did well this year. you met new people, learned new things and felt new feelings. you did so many things that made you scared. you picked yourself up off the floor after feeling completely defeated or heartbroken. there were some really tough nights but you survived them all. you made people happy just by existing. you accepted many goodbyes but the serendipitous meetings made up for them. it was your own hard work that paid off but you always downplay it or compare yourself to others. that’s not fair on yourself. you’ve come so far from the first day of this year. you have more wisdom and strength now. yes, other people seem more “successful” but does that even matter? please don’t think so lowly of yourself to only think about your failures. 2018 was your year of growth. I hope you take a moment to be kind to yourself, and believe that 2019 will be even better.
My late stepdad used to refuse to pull off to the side to wait for his food. He wouldn't leave the window until he got it. Holding the people behind him who probably just wanted a drink or an icecream in which they were fortunate to get as the machine wasn't" broken" that day.
