“Seventeen years and you still insist on calling me master, do you?” Golbez said, memories fluttering through his head, violently stabbing his conscience, “I hardly believe it’s you.  For all I knew you had died over the years.  What brings you back, to what do I owe the… well, pleasure, of seeing you alive again?”

“Of course, you will always be my master. That’s just how demons and their masters work, no? Break the bond, keep the contract. It’s a funny thing, yes? Either way, you seem to underestimate my abilities, master. I do fairly well for myself, yknow? I’m making it. You don’t seem so pleased to see me though… It hurts, really.” She was smirking regardless.

“Of course I’m not pleased to see you, vile demon!” he yelled at her, “You’re among the darkest points in my past, among the greatest of evils I’ve faced to date yet you expect me to see you after just recovering from the trauma that plagued me for so many years and treat you like an old friend?  It’s illogical!  You are a fiend, and I amnotyour master, nor will I every be again.”

The demon clasped her chest and feigned hurt for a second before she merely shrugged and smiled. She didn’t expect Golbez of all people to be forgiving, though she wasn’t done persisting. “Oh then you’d rather me call you something else then?” She batted her eyelashes before she tapped her chin and smiled. “You know, if I truly wanted nothing more than to drag you to the dark side, don’t you think I’d be a bit more… hm… forceful? I’m merely here to become an old friend, sir. Is that so illogical?”

Golbez sighed and rested his face in the palm of his hand.  “You will address me as Golbez, for that is my name.  Contracts be damned, I will not sell myself as your superior, not because we are equals, but because I desire no affiliation with you whatsoever,” he said sternly, attempting to retain his bravado to subdue his former subordinate and rid himself of her entirely, “However, if you must shadow me like a dreadful ghost then so be it—I will not fight you.  All I will tell you is that you will never reach a level of friendship with me.  You are my past, and my past is gone.”

“So forlorn, master… Oh, my apologies! Golbez, it is. Old habits die hard. Either way, I think you’ll find I’m quite charming without all of the… ah, the sinistral actions. I’ll will you over yet, you see.” She shrugged and brushed out her hair again, smiling, again, as sweetly as a demon could.

“I…” Golbez sighed, “You’re right, I apologize.  It would be, well…uncharacteristic, we’ll say…of me to hold a grudge after seventeen years.”

Golbez stared at her directly in the eyes with a burning fury of sincerity.  “If you make just one mistake,” he growled, “I will not hesitate to do everything in my power to be rid of you.”

“Hmmm… I suppose you should define mistake,’ she giggled, shrugging her shoulders playfully as she glanced up at him. “I’m a bit of a troublemaker, you see. Nothing big, nothing villainous, I suppose, but a girl’s gotta have fun. I’ve always been a mischievous thing, you know. Are there any eggshells I should not be breaking?”

“Do not feign idiocy, demon,” Golbez growled lowly, “As I’ve said before, I have no qualms with killing you myself, provided the others that you’ve wronged in the past don’t.”

Golbez put his face close no Barbariccia’s.  So close that their noses were nearly touching.  “While I’m certain that none of the others have forgiven you, you are not to try and befriend my loved ones, do you understand, demon?”

“And why not?” she asked, a hint of irritation in her voice. “You’ve wronged them too, you know, and they forgave you. Not only that, but they accepted you into their family. There really is no difference here. I was merely obeying orders, and I deserve forgiveness just as much as you did.” Her playful smirk was back as he was right in her face and she shrugged.

 ”And, you know, the others might be more forgiving than you think. Ya never know, yes?” She smirked a toothy grin and winked.

Barbariccia’s words stung Golbez beyond the point of recovery.  Though he tried to deny it, deep down, he knew that she was right.  Golbez was nearly responsible for the destruction of the Blue Planet, yet his friends and family merely shrugged it off and accepted him like he had been wish them the whole time.

Memories of Golbez’s past began to sting his mind once more, as he remembered his past self.

That self was an evil, cruel person.  Though he was under control now, that past self was nearly responsible for the death of everyone his brother loved, and though that past self was gone, it still preyed on Golbez’s conscience as though it was a wolf and his conscience was a lamb.

“You’re right…” Golbez said, panting and recovering from his brief panic attack, “You’re… right…”

“Hmmmm,’ she purred, watching as her words hit home for Golbez. Truth be told, she hadn’t actually meant to upset him. Again, despite their contract being broken, she still respected Golbez as a master. It was simply in her nature, and while she wasn’t necessarily the most obedient demon in the world, a master was a master. She had to admit, though, that this sort of outbreak was… amusing. Different. Strange. It was a lot of things and she was intrigued, very much so, simply because it was showing an entirely different Golbez. She’d heard he’d changed but she had no idea just how much.

 ”Being around humans has made you… interesting,’ she cood, though at this point she was mostly musing to herself. She tapped her chin as she watched him, though eventually even that ended. She pulled her head back and looked at the sky for a second. “They’d said you’d changed but I never expected this. Very interesting indeed… I wonder…”  She paused and perhaps for the first time in her demon existence, she had a serious thought and it was reflected all over her normally smug face. A serious thought that, sadly, lasted no longer than a second. “Ah, well, no matter. I’m sure I will enjoy learning more about your… human ways now, mas- I mean, Golbez.”

Golbez continued to pant as he slowly regained control of himself.  Sweat dripped down the entirety of his face.  He straightened his back and looked at Barbariccia through a soaked face.

“It’s not that they’re humans, Barbariccia,” Golbez said to her, “It’s that they’re my blood, my relatives.  They are my sole purpose for staying alive.”  Golbez was bewildered at her mention of his change.  “Who exactly are you referring to when you say ‘they’?  Are the other Lords of the Elements still alive?  Are they active?”

Golbez’s tone grew very dark.

“Barbariccia, I don’t know why, but I’m starting to believe that you have changed, though slightly, for the better.  However, I need you to tell me if Rubicante, Scarmiglione, and Rubicante are still alive.  It is of the utmost importance that you do.”

“Active?” She asked, an amused tone in her voice. She truthfully had no idea. She hadn’t seen any of the other fiends in years, though that was more of a personal choice than anything. She wasn’t bound to them and family to her was… well, merely a name. She’d never particularly understood the term, after all, as demons in general weren’t terribly keen on relationships. “I suppose they’re around. Haven’t seen them in a bit,’ she shrugged, yawning a bit at the sudden mention of those she considered brothers. “Last I saw of them, they may have been ah… active, as you say, but I’ve strayed from that path and since they seem to have vanished. Of course, that’s a lot of good avoidance on my part,’ she smirked, bragging again about her oh so sudden change of heart.

“And oh, the lord believes me, I am of the utmost of happiness,’ she joked, though she shook her head quickly afterwards. “Or I suppose I would be if a creature such as myself knew what such a thing was. Hm. Ah, well, I suppose it doesn’t hurt my feelings too much.”  

“I’m sure if you look around, you may find them lurking. I can’t imagine they’ve strayed far from their usual corners. Not much to do around anymore, I suppose. Seemed pretty restless when I left them all anyway.”

“Hmmm,” he said thoughtfully, “I suppose there’s no worry, then, for now.  Still, their absence is unnerving.  Almost as though they’re waiting for something.  I’m still not entirely sure that you’re not, but for now I trust you.”

Golbez sighed, “Given that, I don’t really have a reason to stick around.  So, for now, farewell, unless you still insist on following me around like a lost puppy.”

She shrugged off the commentary about her demon siblings, as she didn't particularly care where they were anymore. They weren't a threat to her, after all, and again, she'd never really had any specific family ties or anything. That blood is thicker than water deal never really applied to demons.

 His next words, however, had her shrugging. "Well, I'm not bound to you so I suppose there is no reason, no?" she replied carelessly, though a few thoughts occurred in the seconds that followed. One, she'd pissed almost everyone else off, two, she was alone, and three, she had no entertainment. "On second thought,' she finally chimed, tilting her head playfully and smirking another sharp-toothed grin. "You are pretty amusing these days, I may just stick around."

“Ever so touchy, dragoon. Always were though,’ she added, tapping her chin thoughtfully, ‘I suppose that’s not a terrible thing though. But ah, lighten up! A jokes a joke, it’s not like I personally wish ill will towards you all. I just follow orders,’ she shrugged, yawning. “Anyway, I have apologized, you know. To everyone. Well, almost. I’ve yet to run into Cecil. And that … ninja fellow. Ah, well, minor details.” She left out the part where she… hadn’t actually apologized. Again, minor details.

“I never mentioned anything of your past. So touchy. It seems you have a bit of a guilty conscience still. You should really get over that,’ she added, closing one eye and looking up at him. “It’s not very becoming of you. And I’m not playing with anyone’s feelings. You realize for someone to do that, they must first be aware of what feelings are. Do you realize that you and a select few others have been the only human interaction I’ve ever had, save for… rah, I’m here to kill you? Not a good amount of feedback to document on, I’d say.”

His sarcastic comment and smile threw her off for a bit, though eventually something clicked and she smirked even wider. “So you’re saying that I would be boring? That sounds like you think I am reformed, yes?”

She told him to lighten up. How ironic. But he rather ignored that comment, as he didn’t want to talk about it with her. Moreover to hear that she had apologized to everyone who she encountered, made him sceptical. He tilted his head to the site. “You say you apologized to everyone. Really? You didn’t even apologize to me yet. I barely believe that someone like you would apologize to the others.”

To tell Kain to simply get over something was a really bad choice too. “You barely know me and you tell me to simply overcome it? Ridiculous. Especially since you said yourself that you don’t really know humans’ feelings, you should really consider that.” He turned around, swinging his lance over his shoulder, playing off as he would just put it away. “Also, you and reformed? No way. But as long as you don’t have anyone to command you, you seem useless to me. Hopefully it stays that way.” He turned his head around, simply to give Barbariccia a little smirk.

This conversation became quite amusing for Kain.

"Mmm... suppose you have a point. Well then, Kain, I apologize. I apologize for calling you a traitor, even though at that point you kind of were, you know, and I apologize for trying to kill your friends. Even though I was ordered to. Again, you know this. Buuut,' she added, shrugging and smirking again, 'that was a bit of a wasted breath, was it not? I doubt you'll even believe that."

She watched his lance closely as trust was something that she as a demon knew and she certainly didn't trust Kain. She may have been practically begging him to trust her but she most certainly could not give him the same respects. After all, how many times had he threatened her life during this one meeting?

"And that's a good point, very good point,' she cooed, tapping her chin again and sighing. "I don't know much about humans, but do you know why? Because you all are an untrusting bunch and no one seems to be willing to let me try and understand. Really, it's no ones fault but your own."

Useless? Her mind snapped immediately at the word though even she had to admit that he was right. A demon without a master and specifically without a contract or orders was useless. That was partially why she'd reformed in the first place. It was boring being a villain that... well, that had nothing to do, really. There were other reasons, reasons she'd likely never ever disclose, but that was neither here nor there. "Hm. Suppose your right. Useless seems fitting,' she added, though the playful tone was gone. She was an odd mixture of irritated and defeated at that.

Even Golbez had forgiven her? Kain hoped that he hadn’t gone back to his old roots. Barbariccia was obviously still some danger, even if not much. “Rydia has grown up. It’s good for her not to believe you. But I’m surprised by the rest, especially Golbez. What did you do to him?” Kain didn’t believe that Golbez would just forgive her all on his own. Barbariccia must have talked him into it.

“… And it’s not as fun as you think it might be. If I see the slightest sign from you to return to your old self, I will take the mesaures to send you back to the deaths.”

“You act like it’s such a shock for them to have forgiven me. I only tried to kill them twice,’ she joked, knowing good and well that she probably shouldn’t. “Either way, I simply explained what I explained to you. It seems some people are more trusting. As they should be. Can’t always judge a demon by her cover! Or.. her past deeds. But the past is the past, I say,’ she added, giggling beneath her hand again and shrugging. 

“All I heard was that I now have my own personal stalker. Sounds quite a bit more  fun to me when I imagine that. Plus I think you’ll find yourself quite bored. I’m not much entertaining anymore.”

Kain certainly wasn’t amused about that ‘joke’ of hers. She should know very well that it’s not good to joke about such things. But it just fit her twisted personality. In response to it, Kain gave off a mean look to her. He was sure that Barbarricia was aware of that.

Her mumbling about the past wasn’t appealing at all too. Kain began to dislike her more and more. The friendly face before turned into a horrid appearance. “You know too well how much I despise my past, so please stop talking about it like that. I am well aware that other people might have other views on yours, however you still haven’t changed, as it seems. Still playing around with people’s feelings like that.”

Her view on ‘keeping an eye on you’ was really obscure. But what should he expect from a demon who had no real clue about humans. “I didn’t intend to stalk you. I am just keeping an eye on you, for the case if something should happen. I still have my own things to do and have no time to be observing you all the time. I would even believe you that you would bore me.” Kain showed a little, sarcastic smile on his last sentence.

Golbez sighed and rested his face in the palm of his hand.  “You will address me as Golbez, for that is my name.  Contracts be damned, I will not sell myself as your superior, not because we are equals, but because I desire no affiliation with you whatsoever,” he said sternly, attempting to retain his bravado to subdue his former subordinate and rid himself of her entirely, “However, if you must shadow me like a dreadful ghost then so be it—I will not fight you.  All I will tell you is that you will never reach a level of friendship with me.  You are my past, and my past is gone.”

“So forlorn, master… Oh, my apologies! Golbez, it is. Old habits die hard. Either way, I think you’ll find I’m quite charming without all of the… ah, the sinistral actions. I’ll will you over yet, you see.” She shrugged and brushed out her hair again, smiling, again, as sweetly as a demon could.

“I…” Golbez sighed, “You’re right, I apologize.  It would be, well…uncharacteristic, we’ll say…of me to hold a grudge after seventeen years.”

Golbez stared at her directly in the eyes with a burning fury of sincerity.  “If you make just one mistake,” he growled, “I will not hesitate to do everything in my power to be rid of you.”

“Hmmm… I suppose you should define mistake,’ she giggled, shrugging her shoulders playfully as she glanced up at him. “I’m a bit of a troublemaker, you see. Nothing big, nothing villainous, I suppose, but a girl’s gotta have fun. I’ve always been a mischievous thing, you know. Are there any eggshells I should not be breaking?”

“Do not feign idiocy, demon,” Golbez growled lowly, “As I’ve said before, I have no qualms with killing you myself, provided the others that you’ve wronged in the past don’t.”

Golbez put his face close no Barbariccia’s.  So close that their noses were nearly touching.  “While I’m certain that none of the others have forgiven you, you are not to try and befriend my loved ones, do you understand, demon?”

“And why not?” she asked, a hint of irritation in her voice. “You’ve wronged them too, you know, and they forgave you. Not only that, but they accepted you into their family. There really is no difference here. I was merely obeying orders, and I deserve forgiveness just as much as you did.” Her playful smirk was back as he was right in her face and she shrugged.

 ”And, you know, the others might be more forgiving than you think. Ya never know, yes?” She smirked a toothy grin and winked.

Barbariccia’s words stung Golbez beyond the point of recovery.  Though he tried to deny it, deep down, he knew that she was right.  Golbez was nearly responsible for the destruction of the Blue Planet, yet his friends and family merely shrugged it off and accepted him like he had been wish them the whole time.

Memories of Golbez’s past began to sting his mind once more, as he remembered his past self.

That self was an evil, cruel person.  Though he was under control now, that past self was nearly responsible for the death of everyone his brother loved, and though that past self was gone, it still preyed on Golbez’s conscience as though it was a wolf and his conscience was a lamb.

“You’re right…” Golbez said, panting and recovering from his brief panic attack, “You’re… right…”

"Hmmmm,' she purred, watching as her words hit home for Golbez. Truth be told, she hadn't actually meant to upset him. Again, despite their contract being broken, she still respected Golbez as a master. It was simply in her nature, and while she wasn't necessarily the most obedient demon in the world, a master was a master. She had to admit, though, that this sort of outbreak was... amusing. Different. Strange. It was a lot of things and she was intrigued, very much so, simply because it was showing an entirely different Golbez. She'd heard he'd changed but she had no idea just how much.

 "Being around humans has made you... interesting,' she cood, though at this point she was mostly musing to herself. She tapped her chin as she watched him, though eventually even that ended. She pulled her head back and looked at the sky for a second. "They'd said you'd changed but I never expected this. Very interesting indeed... I wonder..."  She paused and perhaps for the first time in her demon existence, she had a serious thought and it was reflected all over her normally smug face. A serious thought that, sadly, lasted no longer than a second. "Ah, well, no matter. I'm sure I will enjoy learning more about your... human ways now, mas- I mean, Golbez."

Had she just scoffed? She hadn’t… Oh, she had. Barbariccia’s nose crinkled and she shook her head. “Royalty certainly went to someone’s head, hasn’t it. I don’t remember you being so abrasive.” The demon snorted and shook out her hair again, feeling outright offended that the nicest of the group she remembered before was being so… rude. Just rude.

“So cold, my queen. I remember you being a lot warmer. Then again, I suppose that was never towards me. Regardless, it will be soon~” she cooed, grinning a bit arrogantly. She enjoyed getting under people’s skins, she did. Which, again, was not an evil thing to do. She had to keep convincing herself of these things, you see. Warmer? To HER? Rosa outright scoffed. What a horrific notion, and one that implies more than the queen was comfortable with.

“I will never be emitting anything warm towards you, Barbariccia,” Rosa corrected, “I can’t cast fire.”

“Your beliefs won’t bring you much further.” He felt certainly uneasy in front of her, as he couldn’t imagine that he just hurt the feelings of a demon. Barbariccia acted much like a normal alluring woman, but he mustn’t get distracted by that. “As long as you’re acting friendly, I might spare you. But dare you to hurt any of my friends again. I will keep an eye on you.” He was relieved that she didn’t cause any chaos yet, although those feelings made him feel incredibly uncomfortable, so he acted awkward and unsure in front of her, having problems to stand firm on the point.

“Hmmm, welll,’ she stared, though she was leading him on for amusement and it was obvious. To her, at least. He probably thought she had done something. “I have met your friends recently, you know. Forgiving bunch… save for Rydia. Not sure what’s going on with that one. Thought she’d be the friendly one. Ah, well, it seems they have managed to believe in my change. Even Golbez.” She was lying. Lying through her sharper teeth, really, and she knew it. But hey, lying was a lot better than killing, right?

Even Golbez had forgiven her? Kain hoped that he hadn’t gone back to his old roots. Barbariccia was obviously still some danger, even if not much. “Rydia has grown up. It’s good for her not to believe you. But I’m surprised by the rest, especially Golbez. What did you do to him?” Kain didn’t believe that Golbez would just forgive her all on his own. Barbariccia must have talked him into it.

“… And it’s not as fun as you think it might be. If I see the slightest sign from you to return to your old self, I will take the mesaures to send you back to the deaths.”

"You act like it's such a shock for them to have forgiven me. I only tried to kill them twice,' she joked, knowing good and well that she probably shouldn't. "Either way, I simply explained what I explained to you. It seems some people are more trusting. As they should be. Can't always judge a demon by her cover! Or.. her past deeds. "All I heard was that I now have my own personal stalker. Sounds quite a bit more  fun to me when I imagine that. Plus I think you'll find yourself quite bored. I'm not much entertaining anymore."

Thanks to my training as Dragoon I was able to defeat you. How would you call that a bond?” Kain was confused about the predication of hers. Would her feelings really be true? He wouldn’t even want to think about it.

“It is difficult to believe you after you tried to kill my friends” Kain tries to be completely unimpressed by her seducing behaviour. Although, the man that he was, he just had to take few glimpses. She surely caused a lot of trouble to him and his friends. Remembering how she accused him of being the traitor in front of the group. “I will never forgive you for what you did.”
