redandgoldenboyâ:
Standing as straight as he can, without putting excessive weight on his injured leg, James canât help but scowl at the Healer in front of him. It wasnât the manâs fault, of course, it was improper for Lily to be his Healer after all, but that didnât mean that James needed to enjoy the experience.Â
They had started threatening him of all things, warning him that he couldnât visit his parents unless he had a full examination to determine that the bones in his leg had set properly, that he wasnât about to be dealing with a permanent leg injury for the rest of his life. It had bothered him, of course, it had, but James had supposed that it worked, after all he couldnât bring himself to argue against it.Â
Looking up at the sound of a knock, he only has moments to react before Marlene was flinging herself at him, her hug squeezing the air out of his lungs. The urge to sob burns inside his chest as he hugs her back, stumbling on his feet slightly as his voice catches in his throat.
âTheyâre here too,â he says hoarsely, âRoom up the hall. Was just us, Lil was at work, theâŠtheâŠâ James swallows harshly, âThe house is gone. Burned completely.âÂ
His home was destroyed, her surrogate home was gone. With her family still in Scotland and often travelling, she had found a safe haven with the Potters. Now it was gone. She could feel the hurt deep inside her chest, her heart wept for James, for his parents who had been nothing short of wonderful to her. She had spent much time at the Potters, running around after James, annoying him and Sirius and Remus. She had laughed and cried in that house and now it was gone and no new memories could be made there. âI am so sorry, James, so so sorry,â Marlene whispered, her own sorrow easy to detect in the tone of her voice. âAre they-âÂ
Marlene never got a chance to ask before The Healer returned looking incredibly angry, chastising her and reminding her that she was in a hospital. The blonde-haired girl stepped back from her friend with her hands up in the air, getting out of the way while the furious Healer finished up whatever he was doing to James. She could hardly focus on anything other than her worry and dread. It was not an ordinary fire, she knew that much, none of them would have gotten hurt in that case, they would have put the flames out.Â
When the Healer finally left, James was sitting on the bed and she was quick to sit down beside him, her arm tightly around his shoulders as they sat there in silence for a moment. âIt was them, wasnât it?â Marlene asked quietly, but he did not even have to confirm it. She knew, she just knew. They had burned down the home of the Potters, they had murdered her grandparents and her friend, they wanted her and her friends dead too. Fury ignited in her soul and she could feel the heat of her anger burn through her veins. âThe Death Eaters.â She practically spat out the name of their enemies. If they had killed James or Fleamont or Euphemia or Remus, who spent a lot of time at the Potters too, she would have stopped at nothing to hunt them down, to find the ones responsible and see them destroyed for daring to take more people from her.
lvpinremvsâ:
She wasnât wrong, Sirius would absolutely spend an entire shift bitching about how terrible it was to spend the whole night having to actually use his feet and decide not to go in for his next shift, therefore losing his job. But thatâs who Sirius was, and they loved him just for being him. âNot a chump, just a good employee.â Remus offered with a small smile, watching her rub her own feet. It wasnât unlike Marlene to just do whatever she wanted whenever she wanted.
âThere is nothing wrong with choosing comfort over fashion. Besides, they make lots of nice sneakers that would match your whole,â He gestured towards her, âaesthetic. A pair of black or red Chucks would look nice with a lot of your outfits, I think. But then again, what do I know?â Fashion was never something Remus was good at, but it didnât mean he was oblivious to what looked nice on other people. âBut I understand. Marlene, the punk rock girl, never to be seen in any colour besides black or red, combat boots literally glued to her feet.â He chuckled to himself, âYour reputation is important, even though it gives off the wrong impression.â Sure, she looked tough, but he knew Marlene was really just a big sweetie with a huge heart. But neither one of them would likely say that aloud.
The mention of the Shrieking Shack made him cringe slightly. It was a good idea, however it would likely be a better idea for someone else to write a book about it. There was so much about the Shrieking Shack that Remus and his fellow Marauders knew that the rest of the wizarding world didnât know about. He shrugged casually, âWould be a wonderful idea, but I donât think Iâd be any good at writing a horror novel. Perhaps itâd be better suited for someone else.â Remus cleared his throat, hoping she wouldnât question him any further on the topic, âAre you staying up for awhile? Itâs getting pretty cold, I think Iâm going to head in for a cup of tea, I can make you tea or coffee if you wanted to join me.â
Marlene wanted to point out how being a good employee and a chump could definitely overlap, but she said nothing, not wanting to complain. Her job was fine, not great, but it was fine, it earned her wages and it meant she had something to fill her days with. She listened to Remus rant about fashion, about sneakers, and she could not suppress an amused smile. She wondered if he had ever ranted about that particular topic before outside his opinions of their school uniforms and some students lax use of them. âI think it gives off the right impression,â she protested while massaging her feet. âIt certainly says that I am not dull.â Marlene knew that she looked more intimidating than she really was, but she enjoyed having that kind of power. If the Gryffindor actually liked people, she could simply prove them wrong, and if she did not, well, they mostly did not approach her.
She shrugged, a little deflated Remus did not wish to consider her idea. âYou should consider writing, at least, I am sure you will be great at it considering how much you read,â Marlene maintained. It would suit him, she was sure of it. âWell, I did not come all this way to visit you without being treated to a cuppa,â she replied with a grin before getting to her feet again, her boots in hand as she followed him inside. She put the boots down by the door before going into kitchen, hopping up on a counter to sit and watch him brew some tea. âHow are things going, dear?â she asked after a moment of hesitance, her brown eyes alit with empathy. Her heart bled for her friend, he was so incredibly skilled, and yet he was in the same boat as her. Just floating around without a secure future, but he deserved one far more than she.Â

There was no such thing as a normal day working in the Law Enforcement Department. Every day brought something different, one day someone tried to cause a disturbance within the department. Another day the department decided that it was a good idea to allow non-ministry workers to send direct owls. Today was quiet, too quiet, nothing had happened yet and it was almost noon. Sure he was swamped with work but he was very bored.
Most people would be thankful for it, given the recent strain the department has been under, but Christopher wasnât most people. Those daily differences kept him interested in his job, especially when he wasnât on a case. He was practically relieved when he heard a commotion outside his office and he was almost certain he heard his name mentioned. Who would come here looking for him and ask the secretary for permission? That ruled out Fabian, Emmeline and Evan would have simply sent him an owl, and Christopher would sooner die than believe Rabastan Lestrange would come to the ministry. Dolores was also ruled out, he knew her voice almost too well and if she even walked into the ministry Chris would have sensed it.
Christopher made the immediate decision that whatever was taking place outside his office was more interesting and decided to check it out. âIâm gonna go see whatâs going on out there,â he told the other officers before exiting the room, he didnât bother waiting for a response. He was greeted with the sight of a young woman getting scolded by their secretary.
Upon seeing him the secretary gave him an apologetic look âIâm sorry Mr. Travers, Ms. McKinnon didnât get my response that you donât have time to meet with her today. I was just telling her that you would be able to see her at a later date.â Christopher does not envy their secretary, who was starting to get visibly annoyed.Â
McKinnon. Christopher hadnât heard that last name in a while and it brought back so many memories. The Dark Lordâs kill order and more presently speaking to their granddaughter Marlene after sheâd found them. Itâs been years since the case but it was impossible for him not to recognize Marlene when he saw her. âItâs alright, I can spare a few minutesâ he reassured the woman with a smile before turning to Marlene. âMs. McKinnon, its been some time. How can I help you?â
Marlene did not have much tact and tone, she was far too impatient to beat around the bush with her intentions, but she did know that she had to be careful. She approached him while taking a deep breath. âI am looking into the death of my grandparents,â Marlene began hesitantly. âI was nothing but a child when it happened and I wish to have all the details for my own peace of mind.â She picked her words carefully, not wishing just yet to admit it was an actual investigation. She did not blame the rest of the world for forgetting her grandparents, eight years have passed and many murders had taken place since then, but she could never forget nor could her parents or siblings. âI wish to discuss the case with you - preferably in your office?â It was too sensitive of a topic to be discussed out in the open.
As she stood in the hall, she thought about all the people who would be horrified if they knew what she was doing. Marlene knew that it was a risk digging up the past, but it was something she needed to do. Her brown eyes met his again. She did not know a lot about Christopher Travers, barely anything really, save for their encounter when she was only ten. She remembered how her father had been so sure the case would be solved quickly, or that was what he had told her, at least, but yet they were left with no answers. Marlene tried to remind herself that was hardly the fault of Christopher, but it was hard not to have a face and name to pin the blame on.Â

marlene and dorcas were a force to be reckoned with in hogwarts.
the two would have probably been hard to be told apart if it werenât for dorcasâ frizzy hair in comparision to marleneâs blonde hair. or the fact that doe would wear bright yellow robes around the halls as the other would wear bright red robes- not that they have never switched their robes in a joke and walked for days with the otherâs robes just to see if someone would notice. they barely did.
their personalities? not that similar either, but they did everything together almost. detentions at least would always be done together. and detentions happened so often. for someone as careful as dorcas, she knew how to create quiet some trouble. and that was mostly just because her blonde half- how she would always tease the other, always made sure to bring the wildest out of her.
and she loved it.
beyond hogwarts and dorcas training to be an auror never changed that. even when dorcas started dating marleneâs room mate- mary who she could not feel but be grateful for everyday. now, the two of them were having a drink and dorcas is slowly going towards tipsy or maybe even beyond it. she lets her head to rest on her friendâs shoulder as she chuckled. â i remember when peeves threw ink at me and i had blue hair for a week, so i could complain about being attacked by the school.â
she remembers with a sigh. â holy shit, we were quiet idiots in hogwarts, werenât we?â
@gcldenmarleneâ
The fair-haired woman took a long sip of her fire whiskey as her friend chatted. She laughed as Dorcas recalled her experience with Peeves. She almost missed him. âBlue suited you very well,â Marlene laughed. âA shame you did not get sorted into Ravenclaw, little badger.â She had always liked the Hufflepuffs best of all the other houses, in fact, she had several friends who had been wearing black and yellow during their school years. That did not stop her from teasing them now and again.Â
âMaybe, but at least we were good fun,â Marlene interjected with a grin. Oh, she missed Hogwarts every day. Yes, she had more freedom now, something she relished, but she missed being surrounded by friends and being on equal terms with everyone. They were all merely students then. Now, her friends were quickly thundering through life and she was floundering. âAre you already getting drunk, Meadowes? I am almost impressed.â She could feel the weight of the girlâs head on her shoulder. âTraining to be an Auror has made you weak, I have drunk almost the same as you and I can barely feel anything.â Not the total truth, in all honesty, but she had built up quite a resistance during the year working at the Three Broomsticks.Â

Mary couldnât help the laugh that bubbled out of her as Marlene barged in through the door, dripping head to toe with water which was no doubt drenching the floor in the hallway, though she couldnât bring herself to care too greatly about that, a shiver running through her at the sight of Marleneâs soaked clothes. She watched her roommate turn all of the locks and let out the tiniest sigh of relief as she heard each of them click locked. She always found herself more content knowing that they were both safe inside with the locks firmly shut.
Mary immediately started sorting through the contents of the bag, spotting some chocolate wands and grinning in delight. She looked up from her rummaging when Marlene spoke again, âI donât know, honestly. Though, I think to really live that idyllic beach-side life we would probably need to be quite a bit richer. I would say those homes would be very expensive, though Iâm sure you would pull off the shorts and skirts better than anybody.â
âI guess so.â Mary chuckled, opening up a chocolate wand and taking a bite off the end of it as Marlene reappeared, âI wish I could surprise you and say that Iâd prepared a delightful three course meal but I didnât plan my day that far ahead. I think we still have some of the cinnamon flavoured porridge, though. But I call dibs if thereâs only one left.â
Marlene sighed dramatically. âMaybe I do need to marry one of those pureblood fanatics, they are always so fantastically rich,â she joked, but then quickly her face fell into a grimace of disgust. âActually, I cannot even joke about that. Iâd rather be found dead in a ditch than ending up with scum like that.â She had always despised the lot, she had been rather shocked when she arrived at Hogwarts. She had grown up protected in a little village in Scotland, she had never met anyone who hated muggles before the age of ten. It had been a rude awakening, but she could still never understand how anyone could hold such ideals.Â
âWow, remind me to never bring you snacks again,â she laughed as Mary claimed the only cinnamon flavoured porridge. Marlene went back into the kitchen and shuffled through their only cupboard. âAha! There are two left, you got lucky!â she called before filling up a pot with water and using her wand to lit a fire. She went back to her previous position. âSo, what did you do today?â Marlene asked before going over to fish some chocolate out of her bag. âLet me guess, you sucked Dorcasâ face off in a dark corner somewhere?âÂ

Marlene had not slept well as she had been staring up at the ceiling all night. She had received a letter from her father who had finally begun sorting through the many papers and notebooks her grandfather had left behind. He had been an Auror, a good one, and he had kept extensive track of his searches for dark wizards and witches. In secret, she and her father had agreed to solve the mystery of who killed her grandparents. They had told no one what they were doing, but they had come up short and she needed to do something.Â
The next day, she found herself at the Ministry. She vaguely remembered talking to Christopher Travers after the bodies of the elderly McKinnons had been found. Marlene had been the first one to find them, a horrible memory she had to carry around with her for the rest of her life.Â
She walked up to the secretary sitting behind the desk. She had sent an owl earlier that morning, but she had left home before a response arrived. Marlene knew she would find a way to see him if they tried to stop her. âMy name is Marlene McKinnon, I sent an owl earlier requesting a meeting with Christopher Travers,â she said confidently, but she could see the secretary did not look impressed. âMs. McKinnon, I have sent you an owl explaining he does not have time today, Mr. Travers can see you at a la-â Before the secretary could finish, Marlene protested: âI just need five minutes! Please, it is about an old case of his.â
Before the secretary had a chance to send her away again, she heard footsteps approaching from behind and turned around to see none other than Travers himself, who seemed to have heard the commotion outside his door. It had been eight years since they have spoken, but Marlene still recalled most of his features vividly. He was one of the first faces she saw after finding her grandparents and having to tell him everything had assured she could not forget his face.
improper-doloresâ:
Dolores was quite certain that the young blonde woman now beside her was not the shopgirl. Doloresâs eye twitched in irritation. She expected this to be a quick trip, now it seemed she would actually have to seek out the shopkeeper herself. Didnât they know how to run a business here? The young woman beside her, her face was somewhat familiar but Dolores couldnât be certain. She kept tabs on too many people. It was clear though that this young woman had little to no manners. The gaul it took to speak to a complete stranger about that subject was mind-boggling. âYes, a lady.â Dolores answered pointedly as the persian lazily licked its paws, âI would say sheâs more of a lady than you dear.â Dolores straightened her spine, a tightlipped smile on her face. âYou know, itâs tragic that such a beautiful young lady would have such a foul mouth.â
Marlene faked a gasp of offence and clasped her hand over her heart, holding it for a moment, before bursting into contained laughter. No, she had never been very ladylike, there was no denying her rough edges. She never cared much for manners, all she cared about was how others were feeling, not what they said or how proper they said it. Many would refer to her being blunt, but she always liked to think it was a positive trait. People just needed to realise that.  âMost likely,â she admitted with a shrug. âCome to think of it, I suppose we all shit inside technically.â She lifted a mischievous eyebrow in response to the womanâs words, her grin wide. âAha! So you think Iâm beautiful...â the former Gryffindor said with a wink. âFunny, I would not have pegged your type to be me, but I am flattered all the same.â
Sirius: I know youâre deflecting by making jokes about how hot you are.
Marlene: *crying* Iâm not deflecting Iâm a legit snack.
lvpinremvsâ:
Of course it was Marlene, she was one of the few visitors he seemed to get recently. Everybody was busy, he understood that, but Marlene was someone who always seemed to go out of her way to visit despite the fact that she sometimes made it seem like it was such a chore to her. Remus chuckled, her favourite nerd. He was used to the teasing by now, it had been happening since they were children, it was one of the reasons he liked hanging out with her so much. Remus closed his book, happy to turn his full attention to her as she plopped herself down beside him.
âYou wouldnât believe how often I hear Sirius complain about his feet hurting after just a few moments of standing, I could only imagine all night would make him rip his hair out.â Remus said with a snicker, âThough, to be honest, those probably arenât the best shoes to be wearing. Regular sneakers would likely ease the pain a bit.â He was sure she wouldnât take his advice, youâd have to physically pry the boots off her feet to get her in something else, but he figured she would appreciate knowing it was her own fault. He looked down at the book, âItâs called The Shining, itâs from a muggle author. For a horror novel, itâs been alright so far, Iâm not too deep in to it yet so I suppose I have to wait and see.â
She finally got them off and wiggled her toes a little bit, her dark socks clinging to her sore feet. âSirius would perish in a pile of bitching about how much better it is to fly than stand around all night like a chump,â Marlene agreed before sighing dramatically. âI am definitely the chump.â She massaged the arch of her foot, not really caring about decorum or manners. It was only Remus anyway, he had seen her do worse things.
âYes, Mister Big Brain, but regular sneakers would ruin my image and we cannot have that,â she maintained while trying to keep her face neutral. âI have worked very hard for it, do you know how difficult it is to lower peopleâs expectations of you and make them afraid of hexes being sent their way? Not easy, I tell you!â She broke into laughter. If anything could be said about Marlene then it would be that she knew how to make fun of herself. In many ways, she knew who she had been, but she definitely did not know who she was out of school, away from her school friends. She depended heavily upon them, on their view of her, which was why she was extra stubborn about maintaining all her friendships.Â
âRemus Lupin reading muggle horror instead of some dusty old library book no one has touched for fifteen years,â she laughed to herself. âI suppose itâs the season for it.â Suddenly struck with an idea, she gasped like she had seen the ghost of an old friend. âOh! Maybe you should write a horror story about the Shrieking Shack and publish it for the muggles to read. I bet they would gobble it right up!â Â

WHO: Mary && Marlene WHERE: Their flat
To most teenagers, perhaps the perfect Friday night was spent partying until the sun began to rise in the east signalling the coming of Saturday. Even without throwing consideration to the current climate that the wizarding world was in, this activity had never really appealed to Mary, who would, in all likelihood, need to be dragged out of her flat kicking and screaming anytime after nine p.m.
No, Mary was perfectly content curled up on the sofa in the apartment she shared with Marlene, a book in her lap and a cup of not-so-warm tea sitting beside her, balancing rather precariously on one of the couch cushions. Their flat wasnât big, and offered little privacy, though this wasnât something Mary necessarily minded too much. She liked the cosiness of the place, even if some of her friends would argue that the place was bordering on decrepit, with all the lights on there wasnât a single corner hidden in shadow, and from the entrance of her room she could see clearly to the front door ( the number of locks wasnât paranoid, just smart ).
Mary looked up from her book only when she heard a key turn in the front door, her hand instinctively going to her wand even though the rational part of her mind knew exactly who it was behind the door. Her eyes remained fixed on the door as it swung open, and she felt her lips curve into a smile at the sight of her roommate. âPlease tell me youâve brought home something edible. I donât feel like trying to cook.â
@gcldenmarleneâ
Marlene ran through the street while the rain was pouring relentlessly down. All she could think about was getting home to her flat and just relax with Mary for the evening. She had picked up plenty of snacks, her favourite treats and some she knew her friend loved. When she finally got into the tiny hall, she made her way upstairs while shaking off the rain almost like a dog.
âHoney, I am hooooooome,â she called as she entered despite Mary was sitting right in front of her. Marlene was determined to continue the gag she started when they moved into the flat. She quickly locked all the locks on the door, a forced habit, before turning around and throwing her bag next to Mary. âI stocked up on snacks, so take your pick.â She got out of her red coat and readjusted her hair before taking off her boots. âRemind me why we do not live in Spain? I am so sick of getting drenched. Sure, I would have to give up my military boots, but Iâd definitely rock shorts and tiny skirts.â Marlene grinned and threw her boots kinda carelessly in the general direction of the shoe rack before heading out into the kitchen. âSnacks and porridge for supper then - again?â she asked as she reappeared with a glass of water in hand.
âMary, honestly, we will become more porridge than human if we keep this up.â Â
starter for marlene & james ( + @redandgoldenboyâ )Â / st. mungoâs hospital (after the attack on potter manor)Â
Marlene loathed the long twelve hours shifts at The Leaky Cauldron, but they paid well and so she tried to work one or two a week. She waited tables, poured butter beers and shots of fire whiskey. She teased the patrons much to their amusement and entertained with carefully picked stories of her school days. While drying glasses behind the counter, she glanced at the clock overhead, mercifully there were only two hours left of her shift.Â
âIt gave me quite a fright, Cecil,â an old wizard said nearby, his voice shaking lightly. âThe whole place was on fire! Luckily it seems the Potters made it out alive, but I doubt they are in good shape.â
It took a couple of seconds for the words to register probably. Her heart suddenly felt heavy as it dropped down into her stomach. No, please, no more. Before panic gripped her entirely, she reminded herself that they were still alive. She set the glass she was drying aside, with such force she almost shattered it, and jumped over the bar to the man. âWhat happened to the Potters?â Marlene asked fiercely while taking a hold of his robes, so he could not run anywhere. The man stammered out an explanation, but as soon as she heard the Potter home had been set on fire and destroyed, she could not stand his stammering anymore. âWhere are they now?â she interrupted impatiently, her gaze alit with fury and worry. He barely finished saying St. Mungoâs before she was heading towards the door with Tom chasing after her. âI will work two hours of unpaid overtime another time!â she shouted before dashing out the door.Â
In truth, Marlene could barely recall how she had gotten there, but before she knew it she was standing in the reception of St. Mungoâs. The lady seemed quite taken aback by the young Scottish blonde heaving deep breaths, and she seemed reluctant to pass on the information of the whereabouts of the Potters, but finally agreed to do so if Marlene was escorted by a security wizard. In all other cases, she would have stirred up a fuss, but all she wanted to do was see James, Mr. and Mrs. Potter and she dared not protest.
She had no idea what floor she was on, she simply followed the security wizard with a reeling mind and fear seeping into every part of her heart. They arrived at a door on which the wizard knocked, it opened and Marlene could not help but peer desperately around the Healer who opened. Standing in the middle of the room was her friend, no, one of her best friends.Â
Without thinking, she slipped past them both, almost knocking the Healer over, and flung herself into the room. âJames!â she breathed out and flew into him before immediately trapping him in a fierce hug. He was alive. Finally, she felt like she could take a deep breath and actually feel the air filling her lungs. James was her best friend, her brother in all but blood. They were meant to take on the world together - and he could have died. She took another deep breath to try and regain control of her fear.Â
She eventually let go after realising she might be hurting him. âWhat the bloody hell happened? This stranger at the pub was talking about a fire.â Then her eyes went wide and the relief evaporated. âWhere are your parents, are they well? Are you? Were Lily there?â Marlene had a million questions lined up, some questions she feared she already somewhat knew the answer to.
wormtailpettigrewpeterâ:
Peter didnât frequent pubs very often. Hell, heâd not turn up in them at all without good reason and this time it was because heâd been invited out by a senior co-worker and hadnât wanted to seem rude. In all honest the meeting had been short (and on his day off) but scarily worth it. Turns out a position as a Admin-Clerk was coming up in his department and he was being encouraged to put his hat into the ring. Even if he was a âquiet little thingâ as heâd been told, he was efficient and already that had shown; between the pay rise and having even more time left alone in an office the whole idea seemed pretty good to Peter, he couldnât quite believe it. Â
As he gently waved the other man away Peter looked around the pub and ended up recognising a familiar face from his school years: Marlene. She was nice⊠if scary. While sheâd never necessarily been angry at him he knew she could stomp down anyone who tried and really didnât ever want to make her angry. Again though not wanting to be rude, Peter got up and walked over and had barely opened his mouth before a she cut him off and he all but shrunk in place as she recognized he wasnât Tom. âS-sorry for b-bothering you M-Marlene.â he stuttered out. Â
She waved his apology off, almost as a reflex, before breaking off a piece of toast. âAs long as you are not Tom, you are not bothering me at all,â Marlene declared before stuffing her mouth. She had never really quite gotten as close to Peter as his other friends, but she did not mind his presence, sometimes she even forgot he was there at all. It sounded horrible, but Peter had never seemed to crave the attention. Not like she did. Marlene McKinnon was the champion in directing attention her way when she craved it - much to the annoyance of her other attention-seeking friends.Â
She glanced up at him. âYou look awfully fancy,â she commented while looking up at him with a smile to show she meant no harm. Marlene did that often around Peter, she felt like she had to in order to avoid hurting his feelings. He seemed so frail compared to James, Remus and Sirius, whom she often bantered with, they could give and take. âI am happy you are doing well, Peter,â she said and definitely meant it. Most of her friends had gotten good jobs or were training for one, and she was happy for them. Some would say she was wasting her time, but she could not imagine ever working in the confines of the Ministry or have any kind of desk job. âSo, what brings you to my neck of the woods at this time of day?â Marlene asked while continuing to eat.

THEIR STORY SO FARÂ
TW: Death, Murder
Marlene McKinnon was the first child born to purebloods, Mason and Marie McKinnon, in a small muggle village close to Inverness, Scotland. Soon followed her siblings, Maggie and Matthew. Her childhood in the Scottish wilderness suited the wild-spirited girl, she was the troublemaker of the household and could never seem to sit still. While she was a master at entertaining and protecting her siblings from serious harm, her adventures did sometimes cause them bruises and cuts, but they always returned with a wide smile face on their faces that only faltered slightly as their mother scolded them for dirtying their clothes. She was a happy child for most of her childhood, but soon tragedy would strike and it fostered a dark cloud that followed her for the rest of her young years.
When she was ten years old, her grandparents were found dead inside their old farmhouse. To this day, no one knows what happened to them, there were no witnesses, no clues left at the scene, no marks on the bodies. The McKinnon family believes they were murdered by the Killing Curse, but some cruel whisperers have spread the rumour they used it on each other as old age and its challenges caught up with them. That following summer, Marlene was sent off to Hogwarts, her heart surprisingly heavy as her grandparents have meant so much to her and she found it extra difficult to leave her family. No one was surprised when the Sorting Hat placed her in Gryffindor though, the hat shouted out the name of her new house before it had a chance to settle on the top of her head. Her parents had been right as she quickly settled into her new life surrounded by friends and so many opportunities for fun.
Rumours of the circumstances of her grandparentsâ death followed her, it spurned on her troublemaking side and she often landed herself in detention for creatively punishing those who implied nasty things about the McKinnons, at the receiving end of these hexes and pranks were mostly Slytherins. Marlene served several detentions with the various Marauders boys and quickly established a friendship with them. She was notorious at Hogwarts for throwing the best parties, sneaking sweets into the Common Room and sneaking out in the middle of the night to walk the abandoned corridors and grounds. She was popular in her year with her charming Scottish accent, infectious laugh and golden locks, she had several âboyfriendsâ, but they never lasted long as she did not have the maturity or patience for a serious relationship. Most professors detested her for her rebellious streak especially in her earlier years. She became more tolerable in class after passing the age of sixteen, but her troublemaking out of class never ceased. Despite her antics, Marlene managed to scrape together decent marks in her O.W.Lâs and N.E.W.Tâs, nothing too impressive though and it limited her career options. While fairly talented, she never found any joy in academics. Unlike many of her friends, who seemed to thrive with their newfound freedom and possibility of great careers, Marlene found graduation difficult and she still misses Hogwarts desperately, wishing she could turn back time.
After graduating, she settled for working at the Leaky Cauldron as a bartender, while she figured out what she wanted to do in the future. She found a purpose as a member of the Order of the Phoenix, fighting against the darkness she feared. Her job helpful as she often overheard slightly drunk people speaking carelessly, not realising a young witch was paying attention to their every word and passing on interesting conversations to the Order. Unknown to most, she has started investigating her grandparentsâ death herself, her new theory is that some current Death Eaters were involved. No matter what, she is determined to find out the truth for the sake of her family.
