it had been a long time since he had seen dom like this. they hadn’t had their chance to properly catch up yet and he was only slightly bitter about that. he was unsure if she was actually actively avoiding him or if this was just how their lives had panned out. they had just kept missing each other until the universe decided that it was time for them to reunite. to get their shit together and talk and be in the same room as one another, stand and talk and see what feelings may still lie beneath their surface of their carefully manufactured masks. he was a little older but not necessarily wiser than the last time they did this. he had seen a lot and done a lot, but was he wiser for it? that is not something he can say for sure, because if he was wiser, he probably would never have put his kutte back on, and yet, here he was, wearing it proudly.
“now, why doesn’t that surprise me?” he almost goes to roll his eyes but he knew enough about her life from the things that tank had told him, whether because he had asked or because the information had been offered up to test easton’s reaction. “please, it just gives the kids more to tug on, which is even worse than it sounds. i should probably get it cut a little shorter soon.” unlikely he would even bother but he knew it was something that he should do, so that had to count for something, right? he can’t take his eyes off of her. she looks so good and she’s still the same dom he always knew but she was different in so many ways that he wanted to know more about. “i guess so.” he clears his throat, shrugging his shoulders as she continues. “you’ll meet them soon enough. tank invited me to sunday night dinner and he practically threatened me into bringing the kids.” once upon a time, easton had plans for dom to be the mother of his kids but life had a funny way of working out. he didn’t regret a single thing about it but there was always time to make amends.
she remembers all those times she cried herself to sleep when she first left stratford, not because she was leaving the only home she’d ever know but because she was leaving the only man she’d ever loved. it killed her to know he wasn’t just a car ride away, one quick text on her phone and he’d be outside of her window, waiting on his bike to take her away. she’d “moved on”, found new boyfriends and girlfriends, tried to forget the blonde hair and blue eyes and gentle smile she felt like he only reserved for her ⏤ it hadn’t worked. easton was always there in the back of her mind, like a love she’d lost but always could come back to. ‘ it looks ... tuggable. ’ it was a little difficult to keep the innuendo out of her voice there, flashbacks of nights under the stars on the bed of her old truck running through her mind as she bit down on her lip. quickly, she reverted back to the conversation, letting herself imagine what his kids would look like running around her family’s home. it warmed her heart to think of them, sneaking them extra brownies after dinner, little easton’s filling the halls with their laughter. ‘ please do, i’d love to meet them. i’m sure they’re amazing, if they’re nothing like how we were back then, little menaces running through the streets. ’
