El refugio se emplaza en las altas montañas de la cordillera, sobre un desolado valle ubicado en el punto medio entre los glaciares del volcán Villarrica y Quetrupillán. El proyecto concebido como un auto encargo, propone un lugar en donde el cuerpo y mente se libera. La libertad toma una relación dual y directa, entre autonomía y comunicación con las condiciones rodean. En consecuencia, se expresa una reflexión y creación de un entorno propio (habitar).
Se propone instalar una pieza monolítica en el paisaje, un elemento opaco que contrasta con la vasta extensión del paisaje montañoso. Un objeto disonante ante la geografía del lugar, el cual se revelará como un hito referencial para quien suba la montaña. La definición de un soporte estructural preciso, permitirá variadas posibilidades de habitar su interior. En este punto se genera la dualidad; La torre puede funcionar como un elemento hermético que se esfuerza en proteger su contenido de las adversas condiciones del exterior, como también, abrir su piel para liberar el interior y relacionarlo cardinalmente a la totalidad del imponente contexto.
