First bingqiu of the year! aaaah I felt so rusty, I need to draw moreee
Catching up on twitter after that fucking bombshell and this post is making me lose it
Hmm I kind of disagree on this actually! I do agree with the argument that this is from the popularity of tgcf for sure, but I also think svsss WAS intended to be poignant commentary, in a way. I think SV occupies a very interesting space in fandom because its nature as a fandom-meta satirical work means that the reader is forced to directly confront the implications of its commentary while discussing it-- meaning that unlike tgcf and mdzs, where you can pretend to understand and internalize the meaning of the work while getting caught up in the grandiose way its presented and ultimately not finding analogy of the themes in real life, you can't get very far in fandom pretending that you understood the message of sv while not actually practicing it.
Scum Villain's themes, I feel like, can be genuinely hard for some people to deal with in a very unexpected way. You might say, oh but scum villain is an easy read, it doesn't get too serious and it doesn't have all the betrayal and death and war of the other series, but I actually think this is what makes scum villain's message so poignant. In truth, the majority of readers aren't going to be Wei Wuxian or Xie Lian fighting against society as they're being brutally persecuted through war and treachery, but they sure as hell are going to be the Airplanes and Cucumbers of the world working overtime with no extra pay and getting really mad at internet discourse online. It's easy to project on MDZS or TGCF and disingenuously say "well if I was in the story, then I would've done better!", inadvertently completely bypassing the story themes about reflecting on your own beliefs as they are applicable to the people around you. On the other hand, SVSSS is quite literally ABOUT that guy who said "well if I was in the story, then I would've done better!" This forces the reader to see themselves in Shen Yuan, who fucks up about 90% of the time, and realize that all of the lessons being imparted on Shen Yuan are directly pointed at them.
Scum Villain has the most brutally frank, directly applicable social commentary of all of the books, so it weeds out the people who only disingenuously pretend to critically think about themes without applying them to the world around them. Scum Villain's poignant social commentary is entirely centered around how consumers interact with fandom spaces and issues, and though this doesn't seem too important to people who talk superficially about how much they understand media and how deep the themes they consume are, ironically this is oftentimes the commentary they need to hear most.
A fan for privacy ✨ Cuddle time for Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe ♥️

Happy Pocky Day with some Bingqiu! How did they acquired the pocky? Ask the System.
Missing shizun(s), please return them to the Binghes if you’ve found their shizun
say something encouraging to other fic writers!
Someone’s life is better because your work is in it.
You were there for someone when they needed it
You made someone forget their own problems for a little while with your words.
you added ART into the WORLD. Art that wouldn't exist without you!!! That is amazing!!!
You made someone feel seen, even for just a few moments. Don't underestimate how powerful that is.
You helped someone realize that they weren't alone in the way they felt, and maybe since you had the courage and focus to look at those difficult feelings, maybe they could too.
You made someone's day bearable today! They got through because of you!
You inspired someone to write their own fics and make their own art! You spark joy!
sqq can simp too ♥
This was so fun but took me forever!! I need to draw tianxi more often >.<
